    Awesome Tribute

by RheaJ on 8/21/09Atlanta Civic Center - Atlanta

American I am was an incredible tribute to our history. It shed light on the foundation of the American economy and the failed system that America owns today. It also told a story of American Politics. I was moved by the testament to so many faithful and courageous African Americans and their sacrifice. It helped to renew me and encouraged me to be a participant in this movement, our history.

    Compelling and insightful

by Ronica1 on 8/20/09Atlanta Civic Center - Atlanta

This was an AWSOME display of African American history, Civil Rights and the fight for freedom and equality. I recommend this tour as a required field trip for students of all grade levels. They need to know how hard the struggle was and how far we have come.

A Lesson in History that Speaks Volumes

by MidnightWriter on 8/19/09Atlanta Civic Center - Atlanta

The America I Am exhibit was Moving, Thought provoking and Emotionally stirring all in one. Upon entering, I felt my anger rise seeing the Door of no return, where slaves entered to be shipped to American. I felt the extreme pain in my heart reliving; the Jim Crow South experience I was reared in, but then the exhibit came full circle with the Charts of achievements and the Yes We Can from the election of President Obama. This a history lesson we need to contantly give our children to let them know not only the struggles but the victories and work that still needs to continue for the true American Dream!

America I Am: the African American Imprint

by Chinadoll49 on 8/16/09Atlanta Civic Center - Atlanta

Overall, I enjoyed the exhibit. Very powerful writing and exhibits featuring our struggle from Africa up to the United States of America. Very emotional to see some of the exhibits that displayed us in a negative way. Empowering when it come to our struggle and accomplishments of have a Black man in the white house by the name of Barack Hussein Obama.

    very inspiring

by deemott on 8/10/09Atlanta Civic Center - Atlanta

it was an amazing display and the flow as great. It made you reflect on the past, take a look at the present and feel proud to want to be apart of a growing future to leave a proud imprint and believe that my achievements can and will make an impact on my community. I took my daughter to show her that our history does not mean we have to settle and to strive to be the best she can be and know that hard times will only last if you letn the negative images tear you down. I want her to be motivated and see that she can be anything she wants to be and that she too can leave her imprint in American history.

    America I AM was inspirational!!!!!!!

by Gbdoll on 8/10/09Atlanta Civic Center - Atlanta

I was very excited about going to see this exhibit and I was not dissapointed in the least, they way it chronicled our diversed and rich history, with such briliant colors, you could almost feel the people coming off the pages and the canvas. As I walked thru the exhibit, I felt like I stepped back in time, Their strenght and their courage and their conviction was tangible as was their fear and their suffering. This exhibits helps to put alot of things into perspective, and makes me very appreciative of everything that I've accomplished, The small load I am carrying can in no way compares to the huge burden they carried so I could be where I am today. Excellent exhibit, I will be going back to see it before It leaves. I took my mom with me and she cried when she saw the mistress whip for the house slaves and the shackles.

The exhibit was one of inspiration and excellence. The displays from a historical standpoint added to my knowledge of my racial background. So many facts that have been overlooked in my acquisition were shared in this exhibit. Thank you for an excellent contribution to America.

America I Am was very revealing

by Raphael9069 on 8/2/09Atlanta Civic Center - Atlanta

As a African-American I felt that was important event to understanding our past history. Some of the artifacts were amazing to see. Yet at the same time some of these relics were sad to see... because of the fact that we had to deal with a lot of radical barriers. Yet it amazes because of the strength we have as a people through adverse moments in our history. I believe that understanding our past is important because it helps me personally understand where I have to go in the future. I feel like everyone should see this event to have a in person perspective of the history of African Americans.

    American I Am was awesome!!!!

by Cina1974 on 7/28/09Atlanta Civic Center - Atlanta

The American I Am exhibit was exhilarating and informative. It made me feel proud of my people as a race. We have come a long way and still have more ground to cover. We should never forget our history because it helped shaped us into we are today. The struggles our people had to face makes one think we do not have any excuse for not doing our best.

    Simply Awesome !!!

by Tweet10 on 7/26/09Atlanta Civic Center - Atlanta

This exhibit was amazing. I felt like I was traveling through time with my ancestors and experiencing history all over again from the Atlantic slave trade all the way to the current times. The authentic artifacts and all of the written information gave a vivid picture of what our people have struggled through. I felt a mixture of sad reflection and also an overwhelming sense of pride. Despite all of our hardships, African Americans have pioneered the way in so many areas and we have risen out of the ashes to become a successful people. If you haven't done so yet, please don't miss this opportunity. Bring the whole family. This exhibit is a must see event.

    Sobering…Horrifying…Amazing!!

by mamichula on 7/26/09Atlanta Civic Center - Atlanta

It was the most humbling and inspiring experience all in one. To walk through the ‘doors of no return’ gave me chills all over my body. Seeing the shackles and coffers that were actually worn by our ancestors made me cry. Being able to see the African American story from the beginning to now will show everyone how far we have come and how much more needs to be done. This is a must see for everyone. It’s not just African American History, its American History.
