About

Provocative, irreverent, controversial and wildly creative, Amanda Palmer is a fearless singer, songwriter, playwright, blogger and an audaciously expressive pianist who simultaneously embraces – and explodes – traditional frameworks of music, theater and art.

Amanda first came to prominence as one half of the internationally acclaimed punk cabaret duo The Dresden Dolls. In 2008, she released her debut solo album, Who Killed Amanda Palmer, produced by Ben Folds and accompanied by a fine art photography book featuring text by esteemed author Neil Gaiman (who Palmer has since married). After parting ways with her record label in 2010, she self-released two EPs: Amanda Palmer Performs The Popular Hits of Radiohead On Her Magical Ukelele and Amanda Palmer Goes Down Under, along with a musical theater-esque Evelyn Evelyn album and tour with Jason Webley.

Amanda is widely known as “The Social Media Queen of Rock-N-Roll” for her constant and disarmingly intimate engagement with her fans via her blog, Tumblr, and Twitter (800,000+ followers), and has been at the vanguard of using both “direct to fan” and “pay what you want” (patronage) business models to build and run her business. In May of 2012 she made international news when she raised nearly $1.2 million pre-selling her new album, Theatre is Evil, along with related merchandise and “experiences” via Kickstarter. Theatre is Evil went on to debut in the “Billboard Top 10” when it was released on Sept. 11, 2012, and has been released in over 20 countries on her own label, 8ft records.

Amanda was invited to present a “TED Talk” at TED’s 2013 Conference. To date her Talk, “The Art of Asking”, has been viewed more than 8 million times worldwide. 2013 also saw the release of “An Evening with Neil Gaiman & Amanda Palmer”- a 3 CD collection of tracks culled from a live tour with her husband and best-selling author Neil Gaiman.

Following upon the success of her TED Talk- Amanda expanded her philosophy into a book. The Art of Asking was released worldwide in November of 2014 and became a New York Times Best Seller. In support of the book, Amanda is currently touring solo for the first time since 2011, hitting stages with a mix of rocking keyboard originals, ukulele ballads, and readings from The Art of Asking.

    Amazing

Better than a concert, it was a community service. She's the best.

    Profound

by Sarah on 6/10/19Paramount Theatre - Seattle

Amanda is raw, hosnest, relatable, and amazing. The messages in this show are incredibly relevant amd important. Yes, abortion is a big theme (and again, a very important one) but this show is about a lot of other subjects that arent typically discussed. Miscarriage, the pitfalls of motherhood, the decision period between birth and abortion, the loss of a best friend, radical compassion. Theres literally something to connect to no matter who you are. Amd shes brave enough to lay it all out unlike any other performer right now.

    Blown away

The whole event was overwhelmingly beautiful. Her audience connection was unlike any I've seen. The subject matter is dark, but heartfelt and incredibly authentic.

    Just meh

by C. on 6/2/19The Pageant - St Louis

Felt pretty restricted as a patron. Got there a half hour early to realize they weren’t serving alcohol after the show began. The line for the bar was exactly a half hour long. So I was forced to wait til after the first song to sit. Bathroom were changed to gender neutral, which I appreciated as we’re all equal. I believe Amanda also asks them not to ru. The air conditioner for noise control, got a little warm later in the evening. I felt like it was wrong to be at the show as a single male.

    A show unlike any other

by Abi on 6/2/19The Pageant - St Louis

Amanda Palmer’s “There Will Be No Intermission” was the kind of show you never forget. It was heartfelt, beautiful, and ruled by compassion and empathy. She plays the piano unlike any one ever has before and can spark a moral revolution. Will be seeing her again every possible chance.

    There actually Was an Intermission

by Danny-Boy on 5/22/19Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre - Atlanta

I've been to a great many concerts and shows in my time. Amanda Palmer was by far the most raw, honest, and personal. The proceedings began outside the venue with a mostly impromptu wedding, officiated by Amanda herself. Said wedding provided an immediate sense of community like I've never felt at a show before. I was lucky enough to meet Amanda just after the ceremony, for a few moments. But those moments will stay with me for the rest of my days. The show itself was Amanda sharing her experiences in life and relating her experiences with death, abortion, miscarriage, and sharing it all with a searing honesty. And in between these stories, pounding our her songs on the piano with a fervor. She shared pain and humor in equal measure in a show that was more art piece than concert. I've seen snippets of Amanda's performances before. But this experience topped anything I'd yet seen. I've no idea how she manages to pour so much passion into everything she does. It must be exhausting. But she does. And we are lucky she does because the results, like this show, are a real blessing.

    Amazing

by Redgirl on 5/21/19Ryman Auditorium - Nashville

One of the best shows I’ve ever seen. I’m not fond of the Ryman Auditorium so it would have been nice to see her at the Performing Arts Center.

I’m not great at reviews, but I just wanted to say this was one of the best shows I have been to. Amanda is a fierce, beautiful soul, and her show was just simply amazing.

    AMAZING

by Renae The Great on 5/20/19Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre - Atlanta

I thought it was just going to be a show but it turned out to be an all day event! We went to a signing, a lesbian wedding,a rally against the abortion bans they're trying to pass and then a show that thankfully DID have an intermission! It was amazing to meet someone who is so open and honest about their life and who took time to meet everyone and actually listened to their stories. I was so moved by the entire experience and absolutely LOVED the whole thing!

    A Show for Dedicated Fans

by E. T. on 5/20/19Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre - Atlanta

This show was exactly what I expected - but for new fans or people who have only listened to the Dresden Dolls, the show may come as a surprise as it is not a traditional "concert". More of a chat-and-chill show, with Amanda walking around the stage, telling stories and playing songs connected to those stories (including some unexpected covers that were a small but welcome emotional break to a topically heavy show), this show is very much geared toward fans who are up-to-date with Amanda's current style and who have followed her blog, twitter, etc., where she's talked openly about everything. This show feels like you're watching one of her blog posts being recited live, and (even in a 3000-seat theater) was extremely intimate and touching and, in my opinion, important.

Honestly the best show I've ever seen

by Ash on 5/20/19Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre - Atlanta

My skin literally cleared after going to this show, don't ask me how, but I think it healed me. After all the pain and stress I've been feeling for half a year now, this show changed my ideals and might have saved my life. I've listened to Amanda and followed her for years, but some things she talks about really clicked with me at the show. I can't ever thank her enough for changing my life the way she always does when I let her back in it.

by Bruce on 4/23/19Orpheum Theatre - Boston

Amanda Palmer is amazing. This was my first time seeing Amanda in person and it was wonderful. She's brave and bold but also very real, and she doesn't shy away from really telling it like it is.

    Not enough music

by Trollope on 4/23/19Beacon Theatre - New York

I love Amanda's music, but her personality is insufferable. She talked MUCH more than she sang, which made it a bummer of a "concert."

    Amazing show!

This show was full of intimate details of Amanda's life interspersed with necessary bits of comedic relief. It was full of surprises and perfectly executed!
