About

THE SONICS IN CONCERT:

Garage rock pioneers The Sonics have been firing on all cylinders ever since they debuted their scrappy, hard-charging sound in the early ‘60s. They’ve been cited as an influence by everyone from Nirvana to Bruce Springsteen, and fans lucky enough to see them tear through fuzzed-out rock nuggets like “The Witch” and “Have Love, Will Travel” will have no trouble seeing why. In early 2015 the classic Sonics lineup released This Is The Sonics, their first album in more than 40 years and a cause for celebration among their legions of fans. With their pounding drums, heavily distorted guitars, and h the owling vocals of beloved singer Gerry Roslie, The Sonics treat ticket buyers to a barreling, adrenaline-filled concert experience every time they take the stage.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

The Sonics was formed in Tacoma, WA in 1960 by Larry Parypa, a teenage guitarist whose parents encouraged him to start a band. The group spent the early ‘60s honing their sound and auditioning members, and by 1964 their classic lineup was ready to rock. In 1965 they released their debut album Here Are The Sonics, a blistering slice of garage and proto-punk that remains one of the most influential rock albums of the 20th century. They followed up in 1966 with the album Boom before packing up and heading to Hollywood to record Introducing The Sonics. The album’s slicker, more polished sound marked a departure from the raw, brash spirit of their earlier work, and ultimately missed the mark – the band called the album “the worst garbage”, and by 1968 the original lineup had parted ways. They reunited in 1972 for a show in Seattle, but it was short lived – their next live show wasn’t until the 2007 Cavestomp garage rock festival in Brooklyn. Since then The Sonics have reclaimed their place as the rightful kings of their genre, delivering pulse-pounding performances on tour and thrilling their devoted fans in 2015 with a new album, This Is The Sonics.
