Alyssa Edwards on Tour

American entertainer, choreographer, television personality, and drag performer Alyssa Edwards has hit the road for the Alyssa: Life, Love & Lashes Tour. Slated for 34 shows across more than a dozen states over the summer, show attendees rave over Edwards' talent and professionalism onstage. Edwards is perhaps known best for the 2012 performance on the fifth season of "RuPaul's Drag Race" where Edwards quickly became a fan favorite, leveraging that into a second appearance on the show and finishishing as fourth runner-up on season two of "RuPaul's Drag Race: All-Stars." Away from the stage, Edwards is an accomplished choreographer, owning the Beyond Belief Dance Company which was the centerpiece of the Netflix Original docuseries "Dancing Queen." Alyssa Edwards Live

Born Justin Dwayne Lee Johnson in Mesquite, Texas, Alyssa Edwards is the chosen stage name of the tv personality and drag performer. According to the "RuPaul's Drag Race" Wiki, Edwards is considered to be a Drag Race legend in the community, as one of the only queens to make an appearance on RuPaul's podcast "What's the Tee?" and coining iconic terms like "Rigga Morris" and "Backrolls." The stage name originated from Johnson's youth where he took a liking to Alyssa Milano from the television show "Who's the Boss." Johnson adopted the last name of his early mentor and drag mother, Laken Edwards. Away from the stage, Edwards is perhaps best known for being a small business owner and dance studio operator, running the famed Beyond Belief Dance Company in his hometown. The studio was featured on Netflix's original docuseries "Dancing Queen" (which features Edwards, who is also credited as a director of the show). Edwards is also known for his appearance on "The Bachelorette." Edwards' dance company also competed twice on "America's Got Talent" where the group reached the quarter finals of the competition both times.

Exceeded expectations - and my expectations were high!

  • Amazing beginning but staggered

by Floraxox on 5/23/22Town Hall - New YorkRating: 3 out of 5

The whole experience was amazing. The scene, the costumes, exactly what is expect from Miss Edwards but the whole show dragged on when she monologues for 45 mins and then for another 45 mins. It felt like the crowd had less energy than when they came. I would do it again, for sure but I do wish there was more of a scripted Broadway production. Perhaps it would have been nice to have actors as the people in her story.

  • Left me wanting

by Disappointed RaceChacer on 5/23/22Town Hall - New YorkRating: 3 out of 5

So this story was primarily about Alyssa Edwards younger years. A whole lot of time was spent on her days playing football and baseball. Her time doing drag and on drag race was really very much glossed over. It is fun to listen to Alyssa Edwards talk but I was expecting a few more high energy dance numbers and more discussion about her early drag career. I especially had issues with the second half of the show. The first half told a story, the second half was very jumbled.

  • DRAG QUEEN

by Rachel on 5/22/22Town Hall - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

I loved Alyssa more than life itself. She is an inspiration to young and old LGBTQ+ youth. She was funny, an amazing dancer, and insightful with her personal stories! Wish I could rate higher than a 5. Love you girl!

  • An hour too long

by Rb on 5/22/22Town Hall - New YorkRating: 3 out of 5

I love me some Alyssa, but it was too slow and low energy.

  • Love Alyssa but it felt unfinished

by GR on 5/22/22Town Hall - New YorkRating: 2 out of 5

These are expensive tickets at expensive theaters with expensive drinks. After 150 minutes, Alyssa had barely performed 4 times, with very few outfit changes. She is the dancing queen, but she almost entirely talked - off the cuff, defiantly without a proper script, and apparently without much of an editor. In the opening act, she recalls having admonished the European director who tried to get her to use a script, - "I'M the script!," she retorted - and how he had tried to tame her into a more classical theater piece but she refused. I wish she hadn't.

  • Love Alyssa Forever, Just Expected More

by Milla G on 5/22/22Town Hall - New YorkRating: 3 out of 5

I think Alyssa was great, but I was expecting more knowing who she is and seeing her dance performances. With that said, her stories were great, she looked absolutely stunning, and it was a joy to see her.

  • Disappointed

by Disappointed on 5/21/22Lincoln Theatre - WashingtonRating: 2 out of 5

I came to see Alyssa Edwards because she’s an amazing dancing queen and has a big personality. But her show was 90 minutes of talking about herself and showing off her ego, and 30 min of performance where her dance moves were okay. Alyssa is funny but I didn’t come to sit through 90 minutes of a monologue.

  • Awesome show

I expected a drag show with some monologue. I got a monologue with some dance and drag. I laughed a lot, cried a little, and loved the whole thing. Highly recommend.

  • Loved the show!

Great show. So glad we were able to make the DC show.

  • Good Show. More Narrating then Performing.

    by Mook B on 5/21/22Lincoln Theatre - WashingtonRating: 3 out of 5

It was a good show. However, I would like to see more performing from a “dancing queen”. She performed maybe 4 songs during the entire two hour show.

  • Absolutely loved it

I loved it so much! It was fantastic performance, wonderful music selection, and fantastic interaction with the audience! Her choreography was amazing!
