I had always wanted to see this Dance Theater. I was not disappointed. Simply amazing is the strength and simplicity of the dances. Ms. Jamison had done a fantastic job. Keep up the good work!
I haven't seen Alvin Ailey perform since 1990 and the mastery of dance and the "genius" of the late founder was evident again!!!
The Alvin Ailey Performance was outstanding. It was choreographed beautifully! And the Negro Hymns that were put to dance were incredible. This performance made me “proud to be a Black American”. As a side note…I was so impressed with Brandon Bryant from Season 5’s “So You Think You Can Dance”. I was wondering might there be a chance for him to be selected to appear with your dance troupe. I feel he would be a true asset to your dance company. Just a suggestion, and no, I do not know Brandon personally (smile), just an avid follower of music and dance. Thank You.
Though the beginning set seemed a little slow at first, it was still cohesive and incredibly enjoyable. The second and third acts were by far my favorite. The second consisted of one long dance number, and the third was the moves choreographed by Ailey himself. The pieces were moving, the dancers were phenomenal, and I was definitely sad when it was over but by the end the whole audience was dancing too.
If you have the opportunity to see the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, drop what you are doing and get your tickets. This is a wonderful trip into American culture and art, not to be missed.
The middle act wasa bit long and slow. The final act was fantastic
This performance was extraordinary as always. This is my third time seeing the Alvin Ailey dance troupe. The first time was in New York City. I enjoyed last night performance like when I saw it for the very first time. Thank you Alvin Ailey and Judith Jamison. This ended Black History month for me with a bang.
I attend the event every year. I moved to Atlanta from New Jersey and had heard of Alvin Ailey but had never attended a performance. After my first experience, I've been hooked. Everyone should go and experience this amazing act of art from a dancers perspective.
Going to see Alvin Ailey and the American Dance Theatre last night was truly an amazing experience. I am a big fan of dance and theatre; I was so blessed that night. I was absolutley amazed from beginning to end. My favorite scene was when the dancers were wearing all white and blue, The blue fade to white, so it seems like the scene was supposed to be symbolic to water. However in that scene the dancers seemed like they were one with the music as though the music was flowing through their bodies, it was such a capitvating moment and I was left speechless. After attending the play last night, I said to my self I must attend this every year, again it was a joyful experience.
The dancers were amazing - graceful, athletic, joyful, soulful, energetic. There were three segments of the performance and two intermissions. While the first piece was interesting and fun - much of it was a bit too concrete and "Broadway-like" for my taste. The second and third pieces were very expressive. The Third piece - Revelations (by Alvin Ailey) is astounding.
An avid fan, I enjoy my annual infusion of inspiration with Alvin Ailey at the Fox. I find myself humbled by the sheer brilliance of the dancers and choreography. And Revelations always blows me away. It's amazing that 50 years later, that work is still as relevant and captivating as it ever was. My favorite company, period.
AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Outstanding performance.
WOW! I have been going to Alvin Ailey Performances for 20 years and each time I go..I leave feeling so wonderful and with goosebumps. They never seize to amaze me with their new performances, the talent and creative energy they bring to the stage. The Uptown and Dancing Spirit performances were Awesome productions and loved them. As always, I get so moved by seeing Revelations..it is like I see something new or different everytime I watch it.. The Alvin Ailey Dance Theater continue to get better with age..like fine wine. Please check them out--each show they keep things fresh and do not do the same Shows. I always leave feeling like it was my first time seeing them....just fantastic!!
I have to say that was my first time seeing the production and I am glad that I did see it. Although, I did not see the third act, I was most disappointed. I took my 6-year-old-son and he fell asleep, the hour was getting late and I hade to leave early. Needless to say, I will go see the production again, the next time it comes to Atlanta, on the weekend and stay for the entire show. I am proud to say that my son did like the show before he fell asleep, at his regularly scheduled bed-time.
Loved it! Fourth time seeing Alvin Ailey, and this time was great. Revelations is everyone's favorite, and mine too! Thursday night, Sinnerman was performed wonderfully. Dancing Spirit, a newer piece, was beautiful. Another newer piece - Uptown - was nice but a bit different. Missed Suite Otis and Dance at the Gym, which, according to the program will be done on at the Atlanta/Fox Theatre shows this weekend. If you've never seen this dance company perform, Go! Go Now!
This show was amazing from start to finish! This was my first time seeing the Ailey dancers perform and they were impeccable! I would reccomend this show to everyone don't worry if you are not a fan of ballet this show incorporates various types of dance. You will not want to miss a moment so be on time, if you are late you will have to wait in the lobby until the first act is done and believe me you don't want to miss that part of the show. The show is 2 1/2 hours but don't worry it's time well spent!
The Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater performed with absolute excellence. In the middle of performances there were standing ovations! The physical strength and grace in which the dancers moved was spellbinding. This is an experience that everyone should have. The only downside was seating. While having thought I chose my seats carefully, I actually ended up partially behind the right side curtain which meant I could not see the beginning of performances that started on that side. And I was on the second row in the LRE section which has absolutely no leg room.
Loved the show and watching the strength and flexibility of the performers. The classics were wonderful - you could tell that they have danced these a million times, but I also loved the blend of african and modern piece that they did. Very beautiful and symbolic.
I think its amazing to see these people combine black history and dance... its something that I plan on seeing everything year for years to come.
