  • Amazing, as always

by Tablancia on 2/22/10Fox Theatre Atlanta - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

The Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater is an unprecedented piece of American history. The individual pieces are well choreographed and the dancers are the epitome of athleticism and poise. Watching this was like watching modern art in motion. I've been coming to see this event since I was eight years old and I still remember Revelations at the end of each night. One word: excellent.

  • Alvin Ailey is a must see!

by soreserved on 2/22/10Fox Theatre Atlanta - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

The entire show was breath taking. From the choreography to the music - the entire cast did an awesome job! A great show for the entire family especially if you have a child that dances - male or female.

  • AAADT is awesome

    by t1021 on 2/22/10Fox Theatre Atlanta - AtlantaRating: 4 out of 5

all of the performances were superb, especially the piece entitled "Frames" and the closing numbers were very inspirational. howerver, I was extremely dispointed with the seating arrangements. that is because the most expensive tickets ($60+) were located one row from the top of the facility with the least expensive ($20) seats for the event. In this case, one would be best served with buying the cheap seats.

It was an amazing moment for me. I first read the history of the Alvin Ailey Dance Theater which put things in perspective for me.

  • Alvin Alley performance was top notch.

The Alvin Alley group that performed was amazing. One of the best shows I have seen at the Fox. The group was talented and their passion for dance was undeniable. I wished I could have seen all 4 days performances and will definitely make a point of seeing them again.

This is my second time seeing the Alvin Ailey Dance Theater, and once again, I was not disappointed. "Uptown" truly gave me a peek into 1920's Harlem, more fondly known as the Harlem Renaissance. The costumes, the music, and the dancing were directly on point with the vibe of that era. "Revelations" is an all-time Ailey classic that I can never get tired of watching. Two thumbs up!

  • Alvin Ailey Always Dazzles

    by Jenise09 on 2/22/10Fox Theatre Atlanta - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

I really enjoyed seeing Alvin Ailey again. While Revelations will always be my favorite part of their show, I love watching the new performances. My family and I really liked the piece called Inside and the tribute to Dizzy Gillespie. I can't wait for them to come back to ATL

Thoroughly enjoyable and I wasn't previously a fan of dance.

I took several students to the matinee performance. They loved it! Overall it was a great performance. I really enjoyed Revelations, though! It was the best.

  • Was not best Ailey performance

by MOREDANCERS on 2/22/10Fox Theatre Atlanta - AtlantaRating: 3 out of 5

I generally go every year to see Alvin Ailey. This year instead of doing classic Ailey they incororated a tribute to Harlem during the 1st half of the show. Although it could be considered somewhat intertaining, I was completely bored. I go to see the strenght and flexibility of the dancers as well as the beatiful lines and choreography. The 2nd half of the show was more classic but still the new dancers were not as amazing as in the past. My advice would be to stick to classic Ailey. Fox: I had the worse seats ever row O seat 23 & 24 which are on the very end and the curtin block a lot of what was going on on the right side of the stage. THERE ARE BAD SEATS AT THE FOX!

All 3 of the dances performed were inspirational. As always, the music was great and interpreted brillantly by the dancers.

  • Alvin Ailey

    by cocoa03 on 2/22/10Fox Theatre Atlanta - AtlantaRating: 4 out of 5

I attended the Alvin Ailey show this year and last year. I really enjoyed last years' event so much that I took my daughter this year. I enjoyed this year also; however I was a little disappointed that I attended a matinee show and the show was different from the night show. I guess I learned from this year not to do that anymore. I think I enjoyed the night show a little better. Also, my daughter who is 6 years old and a dancer, attended the show this year with me. She enjoyed the dancing, but stated that the show was a little boring because of the music. lol. I guess it was not the new age music that she is accustomed to. Overall, it was a good show though. I will definitely attend again, not next year, but maybe in a couple of years.

The performance of the dancers and the music themes were great! It is my second year going to the show, and I will go back next year.

  • Not as good as in the Past

by ESAW on 2/21/10Fox Theatre Atlanta - AtlantaRating: 1 out of 5

I was very disappointed with this year's performance. I see Alvin Ailey every year and this was the worst thus far. I have always enjoyed Alvin Ailey since I was a little girl. It appeared as though not much effort was given by the dancers. It seemed as though they were there only to do a job and not give a wonderful performance. I bought my teenage daughter for the first time and believe she will never ask me to go again. I had pumped the show up so much and she was let down. The show had no direction and had a sorry theme. Last year they focused on Otis Redding and the year before that Stevie Wonder. It would have been great if that was the same case this year for someone like Michael Jackson was the the main focus instead of the Best of the Last twenty years. The dancers were off and were not as precise as in previous years. Alot of the steps were off; they just didn't care. "THE SHOW SUCKED, BIG TIME FOR 2010!!!!!
