Beautiful, emotional, engaging! The audience was completely absorbed in the performance.

  • All Is Calm

by Anonymous on 12/19/11Pantages Theatre - MinneapolisRating: 4 out of 5

The show was fantastic and the performances were very strong. The only disappointment was the fact it only lasted about an hour. Another 20 minutes longer would have been ideal.

the music was tremendous but so was the history lesson on WWI

  • The play was unexpected and amazing!

by ElizaMarie on 12/19/11Pantages Theatre - MinneapolisRating: 5 out of 5

From the first note we hung on the edge of our seats spellbound with emotion. At the play's conclusion my teenage daughters immediately thanked me for taking them to such an amazing experience.

  • All is Calm should be a Christmas tradition

    by dtfamily5 on 12/19/11Pantages Theatre - MinneapolisRating: 5 out of 5

The singing was incredible. The thoughts from the diaries and letters portrayed by the actors was so moving. What a great evening to celebrate something powerful in our world!

  • All Is Calm was a great show!

I wasn't sure how they were going to do a play about this topic but they did it well. I found out my Grandfather was one of the British soldiers there so I wanted to learn more about it. The play was informative yet entertaining. The actors were great both the singers and the ones telling the story through the soldiers own word. What an experience it had to have been for those young men in the midst of war to have it just stop.

Cantus was truly amazing. The actors were great and really "told" the story of the truce but the singers brought the emotion to the event. Fantastic!

Well sung and well acted. It's message sneaks up on you and grabs you by the end. Worthwhile and enjoyable.

I enjoyed the story and the songs. It truly was a calm and peaceful presentation. The audience was so still and quiet not wanting to miss a moment. Wonderful performance. I will definitely be back next year!

  • All Is Calm was glorious!

by Anonymous on 12/18/11Pantages Theatre - MinneapolisRating: 5 out of 5

From the time Cantus began its first notes, I was spellbound. The actors and Cantus delivered the story of the Christmas Truce with emotion and soaring voices. The staging was simple, which allowed the cast to carry the moment. I hope this production becomes an annual holiday event.

  • Mesmerizing!

by Bjelk on 12/18/11Pantages Theatre - MinneapolisRating: 5 out of 5

Minimalist staging allowed the magnificence of this production to capture our senses to the point of absolute rapture as the story unfolded in harmonies and pacings that built to a crescendo, both of feelings and of song. Elegant in simplicity; moving beyond description!

EXCELLENT! I bought tickets for my mother's birthday, she is 91 years young, and she loved it too.

Loved the interspersing of quotes and songs that talked about the beginning of the war leading up to, during, and after the Christmas truce. Actors changed their accent as quoting Scots, various areas of Britain. Was sometimes hard to hear all of the quotes, at least in the balcony, Caught the meaning of the quote, the humming too loud to catch every word with one of the actors.

  • Not what I expected but enjoyed it anyway

    by Diva4Ever on 12/28/10Pantages Theatre - MinneapolisRating: 4 out of 5

I didn't realize that this was more of a concert than a traditional play. I guess I didn't do as much research as I should have. Having said that, I enjoyed it, but my kids (2 19-year-olds and 1 15-year-old) were pretty bored. Afterwards, I reviewed the program and the history of the project and appreciated it a little more. If I were going to make a recommendation, I would ask that Peter add supertitles to the production. I mentioned this to a couple from my church that we bumped into that night and they were in 100% agreement. Although the narrative is in English, it was often difficult to understand. Further, each narrative was a quote from an actual soldier's letter. The soldier's name was recited at the end of each letter. I really wanted to understand the name of the soldier and his rank, but this went by quickly and was often difficult to decipher over the music. It would be MUCH better if there were supertitles. The music was beautiful and we did purchase the Cantus (men's musical ensemble) CD. I am a musician, so I did appreciate the music, but the "boys" (hubby & kids), as I said, were a bit bored. I wouldn't have brought them if I had known more about this production. My fault - not the production's.

  • Exceptional artistry illuminates history

    by Mango1777 on 12/25/10Pantages Theatre - MinneapolisRating: 5 out of 5

The exquisite voices of cantus illuminate one beautiful moment in history. It brought tears to my eyes and a lump in my throat. If only ....

  • All is Calm

by LongTimeVikingFan on 12/25/10Pantages Theatre - MinneapolisRating: 5 out of 5

All is calm is a touching story of war and peace on earth. The music was wonderful and the actors were direct and clear. The no frills set and drab uniforms provided a dramamic setting.

  • Very engaging ;-)!

by MeetPete on 12/24/10Pantages Theatre - MinneapolisRating: 5 out of 5

With such powerful singing and the spirit of the season in the air, it was a neck-hair raising experience. I had seen Cantus perform before, and they were good then, but this was better. I took my girlfriend there as a prelude to marraige proposal. It couldn't have been better way to get the night started. It was not romantic per se, but definitely stirred up the warm fuzzies. Lovely date night.

  • All is Calm - very disappointed

by JETR on 12/23/10Pantages Theatre - MinneapolisRating: 1 out of 5

From the previews we thought it would be more than one set and music. We were expecting a play with costume changes, set changes etc. Advertising was misleading. Music was very good.

  • A New Christmas Classic

by Zookersmom on 12/23/10Pantages Theatre - MinneapolisRating: 5 out of 5

The poignancy of the spontaneous Christmas truce that happened between German and allied troops is combined with the unparalleled artistry of Cantus, and the result is a new Christmas classic. "All is Calm" is a combination of period songs and carols sung by Cantus and the words of people who were there presented by Theatre Latte Da actors. The truce is not so much acted out as suggested by both singers and actors, and yet you feel all the emotion of being there on the battlefield, where there were a few moments of peace of earth. Beautiful, moving, and full of Christmas spirit.

  • Not uplifted!!

by Layjay on 12/22/10Pantages Theatre - MinneapolisRating: 2 out of 5

I was disappointed with All is Calm. The singing was excellent. But it was dull and dreary. More could've been done to stress the comraderie! I took my boyfriend as a birthday gift, but we found ourselves dozing!! Not the event to go to if you want to be uplifted during the holidays!!!!
