About

With their 40th anniversary at hand in 2013, legendary country band Alabama embarked on their first tour in more than a decade and released an officially endorsed tribute album titled "Alabama and Friends." The album features current country stars covering some of Alabama's country-rock classics -- including Kenny Chesney on "Lady Down on Love," Jason Aldean on "Tennessee River," Luke Bryan on "Love in the First Degree," and the Eli Young Band on "The Closer You Get" -- along with two new Alabama songs. It was a fitting tribute for the most successful band in country music history,  which logged 34 singles that topped Billboard's country singles chart between 1980 and 2011 and has sold more than 75 million albums. The band's core remains the same as when it was founded in 1969, when they were known as Wildcountry: Randy Owen (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), his cousin Teddy Gentry (bass), and another cousin, Jeff Cook (lead guitar, keyboards, fiddle). By 1973, the trio had decided to pursue music full time and they signed their first record deal -- and changed their name to The Alabama Band at the label's request -- in 1977.  By the '80s, the band had hit its stride, moving huge numbers of concert tickets and filling their trophy cases with multiple Grammy, CMA and ACM awards.

Awesome performance even with Randy's voice issues. Worth the price of the ticket and the travel. Would definitely go again.

Concert quality and venue was great, but was hoping that the show would have been a little bit longer.

It was a great concert excepet Randy Owen was losing his voice he said and had a struggle singing. The concert started at 8:00 and by 8:30 he told us he wasn't sure he was going to make it thorugh the show and he was sorry but he would do his best. They were only on stage about 40 more minutes and about 10 after 9 they left the stage. They came back for one encore song and all was said and done by 9:15/20. To have paid nearly $100 a ticket I was a little disappointed in the length of the show and the lack of songs they sang. I realize he talked to us a lot to not strain his voice, but it would have been better to have had more songs & longer show.

    Always loved Alabama, Always will

by TxElmo on 2/12/12Winstar Casino, event center - Thackerville

Last night we saw Alabama at the Winstar Casino in Oklahoma. It was everything I wanted it to be. When you go to a reunion concert, you want to hear the old stuff. You want them to sound the way they used to... Ala\bama did not disappoint. Randy Owen sounds like the Randy Owen we remember. Jeff and Teddy are there as more than just backup. The crowd was a little older, of course we were young back then, not now. Randy seemed a little winded every once in a while but not while he sang, only in between songs. He also seemed genuinely humbled that the place was sold out and packed. He put on such a good show, he pushed his voice to the max but if he hadn't said anything I don't think anyone would have noticed. Jeff sang one song that I've got to find a recording of. It was great. There is no way one concert set and an encore could even come close to covering all of their old hits, tht's ok, we're just glad their back.

Going to this show is like attending 10 concerts. Every performance was great. There is nothing like a live show. And I got to see it all over again when it replayed on tv ,

by VegasNut on 12/9/11MGM Grand Hotel - Las Vegas

This was so much fun. Not only was it cool because it was being televised, but you got to see all these wonderful stars and her some of the favorite songs. The highlight was Toby Keith singing Red Solo Cup

This was a fun, star filled event. It was a lot of fun to be a part of a live event. We saw a lot of acts perform for 1 low ticket price.

    The Co-hosts were hilarious!

by FlyHighAway on 12/8/11MGM Grand Hotel - Las Vegas

The show was very good! They did a great job with the co-hosts, they were exceptionally funny and kept you guessing at what they were going to pull next! There was a surprisingly wide range of presenters. The entertainers sounded great and the lighting was amazing! Loved Blake Shelton, Pistol Annies, and Jason Aldean. However, it would have been nice to hear some of the bigger, more popular singers. But overall, we really enjoyed the show...and ended up singing "Red Solo Cup" the rest of our trip in Vegas!! :)

A great evening at a reasonable price

by Bronco7 on 12/7/11MGM Grand Hotel - Las Vegas

The ending of the show was just outstanding.....Trace was his great, but his co-host didn't seem to fit in....I appreciated the cues on cutting to commercials, etc. But I didn't like getting stopped after getting a beer and going to the bathroom until the next commerical. Dammit, I missed Miranda.
