Since its 2009 formation, the small-town quintet known as Alabama Shakes has delivered a swampy blues rock that’s taken the mainstream Southern rock genre by storm. The Athens, AL, outfit, comprised of frontwoman/guitarist Brittany Howard, guitarist Heath Fogg, bassist Zac Cockrell, keyboardist Ben Tanner and drummer Steve Johnson, has released one album, 2012’s “Boys & Girls.” The ATO Records debut moved all the way to No. 8 on The Billboard 200 and has sold more than half a million copies to date. A sophomore set which the band spent the fall of 2013 working on may surface sometime in 2014.
Howard’s powerful vocals have drawn comparisons to Janis Joplin, while the driving soul of the band’s music has earned them famous fans like Jack White and Drive-By Truckers’ singer Patterson Hood. While the humble group has played support sets on tour with Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros and Mumford and Sons, ticket sales for their coast-to-coast headlining concerts has been high. Not to mention festival appearances at Bonnaroo Music Festival, Newport Folk Festival and Lollapaloozas in Brazil and Chile.
We enjoyed seeing the Alabama Shakes. It was a wonderful performance!
You can tell Alabama Shakes really enjoys playing music. Great Show
Truly witnessed greatness! Brittney Howard is one of the best vocalists ever! Up there with Aretha Franklin and Tina Turner! She gets lost in performing and you get lost in her performance. Whole experience was amazing!
Amazing show from start to finish. At times the screen monitors made it look like the band was playing in a small bar. Absolutely incredible show. I highly recommend to anyone who loves this band.
So it must have been late 2012/early 2013 when I told all of my cousins, "You all have to hear this band that I just discovered!" The sound and voice was unlike anything I had ever heard before! Long story short, my cousins and I were all there for the Austin show on September 23, 2016! We all became fans shortly after they formed, and will be fans throughout their career! The show delivered in every way possible! The night was beautiful and cool, the sound was incredible, and that voice from Brittany brought us all back to when we were all just sitting around in someone's backyard, drinking beers, and listening to them! What a band!! Thank you, as we all call them now, "The Shakes"!!
Pours it all out on stage, leave nothing behind, true heart felt musicians that break through any genre!!!! Must see show!!!! May even try to fly to Japan to see next your date!!!!
The music played at this concert was fantastic. It was distinct raw talent from both Corinne and Alabama Shakes. I would definitely suggest that people should attend this concert.
My 1st time seeing Alabama Shakes live. I couldn't be more satisfied with the show. Great show, great venue. Can't wait to see them again.
Alabama Shakes is one of a kind....no other words.
BRITTANY HOWARD IS A GIFT FROM GOD. AMAZING CONCERT.
The title says it all, in short, but does not do this show justice. To say it was amazing is an understatement. I go to more than 10 shows a year, and this one takes the cake as the best one of 2016. There isn't anything like Brittany Howard's voice. The band's sound is just incredible!
Great show ... great performances by both CBR and AS. Venue itself was ok. Parking was a disaster but I understand that is a temporary thing. Very rude parking attendants.
The Alabama Shakes put on s great show. The opening Act Coorine Bailey Rae was excellent too. All of the fun if ACL with an outdoor venue, but less chaos.
What an awesome experience to have seen the Alabama Shakes at Champion Square!!! They are one of me and my loves favorite bands and I'm so happy that they were so good live! The sound at Champion Square is really good and the venue has plenty of room so that you can have a little bit of elbow room if that's your thing. It was a really great show and we were so glad to have been able to go!
The Alabama Shakes performed well and gave a heartfelt performance. The sound was muddy, and boomy. Each instrument bled into each others sound spectrum.
MY EDGES HAVE LITERALLY BEEN SNATCHED! Brittnay's vocals were absolutely amazing. The experience was mesmerizing. I'm definitely going to see them again the next time they are in Texas.
FIRST TIME THERE , AND I ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT! ALABAMA SHAKES ROCKED! THEY SOUND WAS AMAZING! US FOUR LADIES HAD THE TIME OF OUR LIVES!!! Our tickets was in the pit , I'm so glad too. We danced, yelled , sang and danced some more!!! Just so happy we got to see our Girl Brittany❤
I had heard the band play on television but never in person, so knew that I really liked some of their songs...but nothing prepared me for how wonderful that they are live in concert! Brittany Howard gives everything in her songs, you feel the emotion with her and she has an truly awesome voice. From the first note to the last, I laughed and cried more than once... I left the concert knowing that I would have paid to go back the next weekend and see them again. Wow.
Started off with some rain and I thought that may affect the show but once Corinne took the stage the rain went away! It was my first time seeing Corinne live and she DELIVERED!!! Then my latest music passion took the stage, ALABAMA SHAKES!!!! I have seen them perform twice before this concert (at ACL Fest) and it just gets better and better!!!! Brittany's vocal were so on that my goosebumps didn't disappear until I got home!!
Alabama Shakes puts on an authentic and soul moving show. The venue is amazing: easy to navigate and never felt congested.
