About
Since its 2009 formation, the small-town quintet known as Alabama Shakes has delivered a swampy blues rock that’s taken the mainstream Southern rock genre by storm. The Athens, AL, outfit, comprised of frontwoman/guitarist Brittany Howard, guitarist Heath Fogg, bassist Zac Cockrell, keyboardist Ben Tanner and drummer Steve Johnson, has released one album, 2012’s “Boys & Girls.” The ATO Records debut moved all the way to No. 8 on The Billboard 200 and has sold more than half a million copies to date. A sophomore set which the band spent the fall of 2013 working on may surface sometime in 2014.
Howard’s powerful vocals have drawn comparisons to Janis Joplin, while the driving soul of the band’s music has earned them famous fans like Jack White and Drive-By Truckers’ singer Patterson Hood. While the humble group has played support sets on tour with Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros and Mumford and Sons, ticket sales for their coast-to-coast headlining concerts has been high. Not to mention festival appearances at Bonnaroo Music Festival, Newport Folk Festival and Lollapaloozas in Brazil and Chile.

by Wisewoman50 on 8/8/17Thompson's Point - PortlandIt was dicey! We didn't know if this was a go. The Event Website told us to come early. The opening act was good , The Shakes were on promptly. It was a short show due to inclement weather. Thompsons Point just doesn't cut it in damp weather, I am not happy with the parking set up even if you pay $20 extra, for it. I find the folks standing in the front just make it nearly impossible to see. This particular crowd was difficult to navigate, and I have been to Jazz Fest! If you are in the 'Picnic' area" be prepared to hear well but see a speck of the performer. However Brittney Howard is a force . I would see her every time I could. This is my 3rd time seeing Alabama Shakes, love them.
Rating: 1 out of 5by Anonymous on 8/8/17Thompson's Point - Portland Alabama Shakes are awesome but the length of the concert was extremely short. I understand that this was due to inclement weather but it was unfortunate for all the people who paid for full priced tickets expecting to see a full show. They ended up planning for only 30 minutes or so. I feel like I did not get my moneys worth.
Rating: 3 out of 5 Alabama Shakes
by bertcallnan on 8/8/17Thompson's Point - PortlandMany of the most downloaded songs and our favorites were not performed. I am assuming that they were probably saved for the encore which never happened due to a strong weather pattern approaching the area. I understand this and completely get it, except I am sure without a doubt that they were closely monitoring the weather and knew the pattern was approaching. I feel that they should have changed their song schedule to include more their hits. That was very disappointing.
Rating: 3 out of 5by Anonymous on 8/8/17Thompson's Point - Portland The show was great for the 75-80 minutes that they played. The cancelled the remainder of the show due to weather which turned into a chaotic situation. No transportation or cover in a lightening storm. I would definitely see them again. Hopeful we will receive a credit to the venue but doubtful!
Rating: 4 out of 5 The music was excellent
by Keaven on 8/8/17Thompson's Point - PortlandThe entire evening was very nice. Shakes did it and did it big for Portland Maine. I liked being there once I got there but the one road in one road out was congested for quite some time.vendors were great Pleasant polite folks in charge - again nice
Rating: 1 out of 5 Very poor customer service
by TTwisted on 8/8/17Thompson's Point - PortlandDue to approaching rainstorm, organizers moved show up 1/2 hour. Evidently Twitter followers were notified, but not Ticketmaster customers?!?!? This makes no sense. I received a very nice and informative email regarding the show at 11am the day of the show... You know, parking info, policies etc. But no email to tell me that the show had been rescheduled?!?!? So we arrived on time to see AS, but found they had already started playing 30 minutes prior. THEN the show ended early with a "mandatory evacuation" because of an imminent weather event. Guess what, the weather event turned out to be some rain... They evacuated the "rain or shine" show because of some rain. In total we saw about 20-30 minutes of the show. Between tickets and hotel this cost us over $400.

by thepolytheist on 8/8/17Thompson's Point - PortlandBrittany Howard was phenomenal. Her voice and presence were like nothing I've seen. Please, go see them if you get the chance. Worth every penny.
Rating: 3 out of 5 Shakes sound disappointing
by PaintRep on 8/7/17Blue Hills Bank Pavilion - BostonI am a huge fan of the Shakes. I was really excited to see them especially at this venue. I really like the BHBP for concerts. The shakes gave it their all as they always do but the sound was terrible! It was loud, muffled, and the vocals were garbled and impossible to hear. This is not the venue. I have seen concerts here with sound so good it could be recorded. The Shakes need to work on their set-up. I am still a huge fan and would see them again. Maybe it just was an off night.
Rating: 5 out of 5by Anonymous on 8/7/17Blue Hills Bank Pavilion - Boston Alabama Shakes rock! A great sound with a wonderful stage presence. I'd see them again in a heartbeat.

Rating: 5 out of 5 wonderful show at wonderful venue
by BooBooBar on 8/4/17The Palace Theatre Albany - AlbanyAlabama shakes is intense. The whole band was wonderful. This was among the top concerts ever attended. Up there with Stevie Ray Vaugn both Miller Auditorium and Pine Knob. Up there with Genesis at wembly. Up there with Billy Joel in Tampa..... Great show..... Alabama Shakes reaches ecstasy when she performs..... Also enjoyed learning about Emily King. Emily king had a very beautiful voice and good stage presence. She was very different than Alabama Shakes in a complementary way. Bought some of her music. Loved the contest of their voices and styles and they were both good in their own way....
Rating: 3 out of 5 Play the hits!!

Rating: 4 out of 5 Great performance
by Schmartin on 8/4/17The Palace Theatre Albany - AlbanyAlabama Shakes puts on a fantastic show and I wish I saw them in a different venue. Everything about the venue was fine but to feel the music, you've got to be a crowd rather than standing in front of a seat. Great lighting though for a venue of this size.

Rating: 5 out of 5 Alabama Shakes/Corrine Bailey Rae - Awsome
by Anonymous on 10/3/16The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion presented by Huntsman - WoodlandsCorrine Bailey Rae opened the night. I have heard her music before, but she is not someone I regularly listen to. I was pleasantly surprised how much I liked listening to her live. Great start to the night. Alabama Shakes hit the stage and the venue lit up. I got these tickets as an anniversary present to my husband, He is a HUGE fan and now so am I. Brittany is a power house! When she sings you feel in your heart and in your gut. The band? WOW!!!! After hearing all the synthesized/autotune stuff on the radio. Listening to musicians was a treat. The venue was perfect for this event. It proved to be a great night!!!!
