    Vintage Franken

by Popperoni on 11/19/19The Wilbur - Boston

Al gave a great show! He discussed all the usual targets, with facts and wit.

    Meh

    by D. on 11/18/19The Wilbur - Boston

I love Al Franken but this event was borderline not worth it. The majority of his dialog was the greatest hits from his last book so little (stories or punch lines) were new. Also, THE WILBUR is hit or miss - if you are too far in the back you are piled on top of each other sitting on uncomfortable high-chairs and the incessant garbage disposal? from the bar.

The Wilbur Theater is the perfect room for this event.

    Al Franken

by Nancy on 11/18/19The Wilbur - Boston

Poignant and funny. It made me so sad someone so intelligent is not in Congress right now.

    Al Franken shines again.

by Boston Fan on 11/18/19The Wilbur - Boston

He was funny, wise and warm. It was a great evening with an audience that hung on his every word. His impressions were spot on and some were deservingly affectionate while others were appropriately scathing. Welcome back, Al.

ALL THE STARS FOR AL FRANKEN, but...

    by E. E. on 11/18/19The Wilbur - Boston

I don't understand why anyone performs at the Wilbur. It is the WORST. The chairs on the floor are harder and crappier than the worst restaurant chairs you could imagine, the railing separating the sections is wobbly, and the waitstaff walks around the whole show, and will stand right in front of you to take an order, blocking your view. Plus for the eight chair groupings, there are two itty bitty tables, so the chairs in the middle have nowhere to put a drink should they want one. I was on the end toward the stage and didn't have a drink so it didn't matter to me, but it was SO CRAMPED. When I'm paying over $100 for a ticket in a small venue, this isn't the experience I want. I'd been there before and had sworn it off then, but gave it another chance for Al Franken. NEVER AGAIN.

    Disappointing

by Bummed out Liberal on 11/18/19The Wilbur - Boston

In the New Yorker magazine’s July 29 2019 edition, a long and thoughtful account of Senator Franken’s sudden ouster from the Senate, led mostly by his female democratic colleagues, laid out a balanced reexamination of the fairness (or lack thereof) of the party’s throwing him under the bus. I went, expecting him to face head-on this controversial issue, and answer in a public forum the charges he was not allowed to refute or explain in a Senate Ethics Committee hearing. To do so, however, Franken would have had to criticize his fellow Democrats... something that was wholly lacking in his hour-long tirade against the “usual suspects”... all G.O.P. Targets — Trump, naturally, leading the list, obviously an easy target of any left of center commentator. Al Franken has shown in his more carefully edited written works (e.g. Giant of the Senate), an ability to paint a more nuanced picture of the workings of government, and a candid admission of his own gaffs and steep learning curve in transitioning from humorist outsider to committed public figure in his brief U.S. Senate career. That balance was totally lacking in his poorly-prepared and sophomoric screed in the Wilbur. He was preaching to an adoring choir... and no moderator was allowed to ask him questions, or selected audience members were given the chance to speak, town hall style, from the floor. Instead he read from a very few softball questions from index cards to conclude the too-short “lecture”. Not the eloquent and insightful social observer and writer I was hoping to hear, getting the chance to finally answer his former fellow Caucus members’ rush to judgement. A huge (and expensive) disappointment.

    Al Franken at the Paramount

    by B.Granauntie on 10/10/19Paramount Theatre - Seattle

We really looked forward to seeing him because we'd seen years ago at the Key Arena, we watched his show on Air America, and own most of his books. We knew protesters were expected, but we didn't see any, possibly because we arrived fairly early and were some of the first people in the door. We enjoyed seeing him so much. He was funny and of course, very intelligent. It make us wish that he was still in the Senate fighting for us. We feel that he should have been allowed to stay until they had a hearing regarding the behavior he was accused of. When he first came out on stage, he stated that a few years before, if he'd been asked if his behavior ever made anyone uncomfortable, he would have said "no". He went on to say that he's done a lot of thinking about it and conducts himself differently. I was was glad that the turnout for this event was really good.

    Disappointing

by Garnet on 10/9/19Paramount Theatre - Seattle

We attended the event in spite of the new allegation against Franken. His presentation was flat, maybe because of the publicity. Maybe he was unhappy. He spoke for about an hour and then answered questions from 3 x 5 cards for about 15 minutes. That was it. No introduction by anyone. Just the stage and Franken. He's bright. As fans of his politics, we were hoping for more insights but instead we came away thinking he's just not a nice man.

    Please Run for President

This is the person who can best handle Trump's attacks. He showed all the necessary skills.

    Flat and short

by CJ on 10/7/19Paramount Theatre - Seattle

Al Franken started 5 min late and finished an hour and 10 min later. He didn't come across as being in top form nor especially ready. He would have done better to talk with a purpose, rather than ramble to touch on many subjects. I wanted to support him, but the talk wasn't that riveting or inspiring or funny. The Q&A part was rather lame; I didn't know there was a way to submit Q&A's. I don't think I got the value for the ticket price.

    Frankenly

by Mike on 10/7/19Paramount Theatre - Seattle

I had a great evening listening to a good comedian and a serious political commenter. I enjoyed the way he discussed his views on the political quagmire the country finds itself in and the way he wove humor throughout. I appreciated that he dealt with the controversy that caused him to resign his Senate seat at the outset. I could have listened for hours.

    A great evening!

Thank you so much for not caving in to pressure to cancel this event. Mr. Franken was engaging, witty and smart as always. His is a voice that should be heard.

    Short but sweet

    by J.P on 10/7/19Paramount Theatre - Seattle

The show length was shorter than expected but the content was great. I would've liked listening to Al longer and hear more about his insights into the current political climate. The sound quality was a bit off. We were in the Mezz level and it was muffled at times and we couldn't exactly hear what he was saying. The Paramount is a beautiful venue.

    Al Franken

by Gus on 10/7/19Paramount Theatre - Seattle

Truly enjoyed Mr Franken's insight and shared knowledge of his life experiences. He seemed a little tired and the engagement shorter than expected. Good audience, protester was annoying.

    Great Event

    by E. N. on 10/7/19Paramount Theatre - Seattle

Al Franken brought his humor and knowledge to his event at the Paramount. I thoroughly enjoyed his talk about his background, his experience, and his knowledge about the state of governing in America. It was very enjoyable. It was pretty short, at one hour. If I had known it would be that short, I'm not sure I would have made the drive to hear him.

What can I say, this man is made of intelligence, substance and an impeccable timing for delivery. I'd love to see him again in public.

    Franken, his more serious side

by Widget on 10/7/19Paramount Theatre - Seattle

So impressed with Frankenstein understanding of the process of our government. He is so incredibly smart. Although he peppered some of his message with quips, his message was altogether very serious. The nation is in serious danger with Trump at the helm.
