  • Al Di Meola

    by wew119 on 2/28/15Carolina Theatre - DurhamRating: 4 out of 5

Excellent show, Sound quality and mix were great without being loud. Musicians were excellent. The talking between songs was informative and funny and just enough. Played old songs, acoustic songs and new material. He still has it. Incredible speed on the guitar.

  • Al was awesome!

by Kraidm on 2/28/15Carolina Theatre - DurhamRating: 5 out of 5

Carolina Theatre was a great venue for an intimate evening with the one and only Al DiMeola. Parking was exceptional and due to a forecast of 6 inches of snow the theater was not over crowded. Al played for 2.5 hours with a short break and bantered with the crowd all night. He introduced multiple songs in Spanish (that always translated to "no more snow"!) and demonstrated his prowess on the guitar as he has for more than 30 years. The mixing was top notch as were his bandmates. Definitely one of the best shows I have seen in many years.

One should expect that someone with Al DiMeola's talent and pedigree would be able to put on a good show, but he failed tonight. After coming on stage over an hour late, and admitting that he had not practiced the music he was about to play, he and his band members each tried to outdo the other with theatrics and overplaying. It was so loud, one could not really here what they were playing. Very reminiscent of a bad 70's rock concert.

  • Al Di Meola World's Best Ax-Man

by axcutman on 2/26/15Ponte Vedra Concert Hall - Ponte Vedra BeachRating: 4 out of 5

Al Di Meola is a SHRED MASTER, the God Father of Shred. Great sound, very good band. song selection is awesome. Great performance. The only thing that could have made this a 5-Star show is if the amp had not blown up and guitar board had not malfunctioned. The guitar tech-Johnny, took about 30 minutes to get the new amp up and running with the board. Al handled the situation like the PRO he is. Al is very personable as we got to see. When there's a problem like this the audience really gets to see how the man handles himself under pressure. Top-Notch Man!!! I can't wait to see him again. I bought one of his music books and now I shred melodic runs like AL.

  • Al and the all star band were over the top

by Markusorealius on 2/25/15Ponte Vedra Concert Hall - Ponte Vedra BeachRating: 5 out of 5

I have been to Al Dimeola shows dating back to 1977 when I attended USF. It was so fulfilling to hear the high energy fusion rock band that was the flavor of the 70's. The house sound was superb, and NOT too loud, a common issue that ruins a band's product as the sound bounces off the walls! I wanted to jump up on the stage and help the guitar tech solve the pedal board issue, but I am sure he was more capable than me. PVCH is the BEST venue in the area. Please get more similar artists (Steve Morse maybe).

  • Al Di Meola plays the guitar like an orchestra.

I've been listening to Al for over 30 years and he still find his skills amazing. There is no faster guitar player in the world. And is songs are not just music, they are composition of art. Thanks Al, for all the years of pleasure.

  • Amazing guitarist !

by Mtthww56 on 2/24/15Ponte Vedra Concert Hall - Ponte Vedra BeachRating: 5 out of 5

I enjoy his acoustic work, but it was good to hear Al on electric again. The band worked through some minor tech issues and gave us an amazing show ! They did a mix of old and new songs with an acoustic set in the middle. One of my favorites was Al's version of And I Love Her by the Beatles on acoustic. The night was made even more enjoyable by Al's sense of humor .....pretty funny guy, brilliant guitarist ! I really enjoyed the show. If you have the opportunity to go, don't miss it !

  • Still got it

Even though they had Technical problems, Al still has the chops, his band was world class, hope to see him again

  • Most amazing guitarist and bassist ever

Despite technical difficulties, this was an awesome show and I'd keep going and going again if I could.

  • Al Di Meola is a god.

by yargnad on 2/24/15Ponte Vedra Concert Hall - Ponte Vedra BeachRating: 5 out of 5

What a great set for his return to electric guitar. There was a mild delay during Senor Mouse due to technical issues with his pedalboard, about which he jested was originally the reason that he gave up his indomitable prowess and creativity on the electric for acoustic so many years ago. I will listen to whatever he plays. Al was in rare form otherwise and they re-booted by performing Senor Mouse again even better than the first time. The highlights of the show for me were Senor Mouse near the beginning of the set, the acoustic solo work in the middle and, for obvious reasons, Race with Devil to cap the night off. The entire band was in lockstep unison and fed really well off each other, given the technical issues, and I would say the problems may have added to the entertainment factor as Al kept us all laughing during the hiccups with pokes at his guitar tech and roadie as they nearly take center stage for a portion of the act. The meet and greet after the show was absolutely the best part. Al came out about 10 mins after the show ended and took pictures and signed autographs with the VIPs which included a free signed copy of Elegenat Gypsy on CD (Made in America, yall!). Mark one off my top 5 bucket list.

  • Great musicianship

by DRUMMERBOYOFJAX on 2/24/15Ponte Vedra Concert Hall - Ponte Vedra BeachRating: 3 out of 5

The musicianship was superb. Very good playing. You couldn't want much better. The disappointments were, Al Di Meola blew an amp and it took the tech about 30 minutes to replace. Shit happens and I understand but improvise. Myself being a drummer was extremely disappointed that you could not even see the drummer. They had him hidden in the back corner and covered by a shield. Get a mirror or riser so we can see what he was doing. That really sucked. At the end of the show, we chanted for an encore. Wow what a surprise we got. The band came back out on stage, took a bow and thanked us for coming and Al Di Meola took a picture of the audience and a selfie and said good night and walked off the stage. What an asshole and heard the same comment from a lot of other people! I guess this band was not prepared and I know it was the first show of the tour but give me a break.

  • Transcendent

What else is there to say about Di Meola that hasn't been said before? Seeing him return to his electric roots was great. The acoustic interlude was well timed. The closing electric set was exhilirating. I would pay to see it again.

  • Simply Great

One of the greatest jazz guitar players of the modern era.

  • Al Di Meola was AWESOME!

by Merlin111 on 2/24/15Ponte Vedra Concert Hall - Ponte Vedra BeachRating: 5 out of 5

In a music landscape filled with meaningless content and a complete lack of talent, how refreshing to enjoy an evening with a true artist of the highest order who has stayed true to his art and continues to amaze all who are fortunate to attend his concerts. Historic!!!

  • Al DiMeola

what an awesome show...they had some technical problems with Al's foot board....but he made up for the delay in time...an outstanding performance by one of the worlds greats guitar players....

  • Al Di Mola in Ponte Vedra

by Malcolm11 on 2/24/15Ponte Vedra Concert Hall - Ponte Vedra BeachRating: 5 out of 5

Al and his band of world class musicians were truly unforgettable! After a technical problem (which Al handled humorously and engagingly with the audience) the group performed flawlessly and provided us with the performance only the very best guitar player in the world could provide. DO NOT MISS AL DI MEOLA - YOU WILL REGRET IT!!

  • Al Di Meola concert in Ponte Vedra

by Byra on 2/24/15Ponte Vedra Concert Hall - Ponte Vedra BeachRating: 5 out of 5

Incredible show. We were lucky enough to get front row seats and it really made the experience amazing. Al and the band were super tight and rocking the whole night. There was a glitch with his guitar rig that caused a half hour or so delay, but he entertained the audience with jokes until his rig was fixed. One of the best shows Ive ever seen.

  • The best Guitarist, musici and general person ever

by STedeschi on 1/21/15Sixthe & I Synagogue - District of ColumbiaRating: 5 out of 5

Al Dimeola is a fantastic musician. His music is melodic Jazz fusion with multi-cultural influences. His earlier work was more Jazz fusion rock and now has evolved to have a European Jazz flare. He spends a fair amount of time in Asia and Europe to reach his fans there and when in the US we are treated to a wonderful and special experience. Al is all about the music and his fans. He plays his notes with and around the time of beat. Amazing tempo technician. He takes time after performances to do meet and greets and chat with his fans. He is the best at what he does, but if you asked him he is humble and talks about all his influences including the Beatles. Anyway go to his site and there will be a great Bio that you can read.

  • Been Listening to Al Since 1978

by CodeSpyder on 1/20/15Painter's Mill Music Fair - Owings MillsRating: 5 out of 5

This man is amazing. His music is like a chemical stimulant to my brain. I first heard of Al Di Meola when someone put on his first CD on the submarine sound system. I've been hooked ever since. It's great to see him with an electric guitar in his hands and I can't wait for this new tour. I've seen him many times, but I'll always remember the concert in 1982, his 'Electric Rendezvous' Tour. The lineup was as follows. Al Di Meola - Guitars Steve Gadd - Drums Mingo Lewis - Percussion Anthony Jackson - Bass Jan Hammer - Keyboards Philippe Saisse - Marimba We still have the t-shirt from the concert!
