  • A master at work!

by jwjo on 3/2/15Variety Playhouse - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

Al and band were masterful, as usual. I first saw Al DiMeola with RTF in 1975, and he has been one of my biggest musical influences ever since. He has such a wide range of abilities, and it was great to re-live the earlier days of his career. You can tell he is really enjoying himself, and he has a great sense of humor. You must see this living legend!!

  • Al Di Meola

    by fablawyer1 on 3/2/15Variety Playhouse - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

I always knew of Al and that he was an inspiration to so many other well-known guitarists. However, I was blown away by this tour and at how effortless Al made playing appear. No glitz or glam or gimmicks. Down to Earth - even just talking to his crew as he played - keeping it real and intimate. A wonderful electric tour by a true and gifted master. He is a genius and I truly enjoyed the experience.

by BVauls on 3/2/15Variety Playhouse - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

Fantastic! Al was personable and energetic. I enjoyed the music immensely. I have seen half of Return to Forever in the last two weeks - Stanley Clarke last week and Al Di Meola this week. Great venue and great music. I will put Al on my list to see each time he is in Atlanta.

  • Al was ON!

    by bmcl1213 on 3/2/15Variety Playhouse - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

It's a rare occasion to see an artist this accomplished go back and play his older catalog. Most artists just don't want to revisit that earlier period, but Al and his band completely TORE through Elegant Gypsy and Casino selections, and for a few hours the world was a good place to be while we watched a master at work. On a sidenote, Al was playing fiercely difficult stuff effortlessly, and making jokes and chatting between songs like you'd been hanging out with him for years. He seemed to really get into the Atlanta show, much more than the dates in the past week in Florida - he was taking pictures of the crowd and just chatting away with the crowd, things were very loose and fun.

  • Al Di Meola - Incomparable Performance

    by Bambam42 on 3/2/15Variety Playhouse - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

What a great show, in a great environment. The crowd was jazzed (pun NOT intended) and Al did NOT disappoint anyone! The band played two sets with a woefully short acoustic intro to set #2. The energy was high through out the show. Al's technique was spot-on!!!! The set-list included some of the best from Casino, Splendido Hotel, Elegant Gypsy and more. Had there been two show, or another night... I would have been there for all of them!

Dimeola is one of a kind, one of most melodic, rhythmic, elegant and interesting guitarists of our time. Took my breath away. Go Al!

  • So fast

by EliinATL on 3/2/15Variety Playhouse - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

Loved the concert, Al Di Meola was fantastic worked the crowd like they were his friends and his Guitar work was more that I ever imagined! Just incredible ! We were however disappointed that the venue said it would open and let folks in at 7 and it did not until 7:45 leaving hundreds and hundreds of folks standing in the street when it was very cold. Concert was to start at 8 but it really started at 9.

  • Al never disappoints!

It was a great show all around but guys, eat popcorn at home, please.

  • Di Meola still has the chops

    by GuitarGod21 on 3/1/15Carolina Theatre - DurhamRating: 5 out of 5

My disclaimer is I play guitar and I love Jazz Fusion. That being said, this is the pinnacle of guitar fusion jusic. At 60 years old, AL looks, plays and moves around like a guy 20 years his junior. He still has the chops to burn through his old set and yet has matured in his playing, adding more inflection than he has ever had. His tone is killer...raw and refined if you can imagine that. His band is alway top-notch and for this tour, this could be the best I have seen tour with him ( and I have seen more than a few shows).

  • Wonderful Evening

    by ShellyWDesigns on 3/1/15Sixth & I Historic Synagogue - WashingtonRating: 4 out of 5

Al brings his unique unforgettable style to the Washington, DC music industry. I have seen a few of his acoustic tours, so being able to see him live on an electric tour was a treat. The venue was a nice change as I have done floral designs here for weddings over the years but never seen a music venue like this in such a unique location. I was however shocked with the event staff when they made it a repeated point to us, sitting in the handicap row in the very back, to not talk to Al before, during or after the show. The percussionist, who is always friendly, made it a point to visit us during intermission. He's always been a great guy. I was very disappointed, during the intermission, to hear so many of the attendees complain about Al becoming a hermit at his shows and no longer taking the time to socialize with his fan base any more. I'll have to keep my ears open for more on this topic because Al being casual and friendly is what drew us to back to his performances over the years. All else aside, it was a delightful evening. Thank you once again, Al, for an unforgettable evening!

  • great show

    by Bill8 on 3/1/15Sixth & I Historic Synagogue - WashingtonRating: 5 out of 5

i really enjoyed the show, music was great as always . But seats weren't as good as i would have liked , off to the side of a curve , so we couldn't see much of his playing , which is as much of the show as the sound. But stiil had a great time, and parking was only $10.00 and across the street , couldn't ask for much more than that in DC lol.

  • Virtuoso doesn't begin to describe him!

by DurhamMike on 3/1/15Carolina Theatre - DurhamRating: 5 out of 5

Not only did Al DiMeola display the full range of his amazing talent, he connected with the audience from the first note. Absolutely fantastic show at the perfect venue - the Carolina Theatre!

  • Fantastic Show!! Al was Awesome!!

    by DevotedFan2 on 3/1/15Sixth & I Historic Synagogue - WashingtonRating: 5 out of 5

Great place to watch a legend perform!! We sat in the back row near the exit. At the intermission Al's entourage passed by us going into the Green room & then back out towards the stage & then again after the encore!!! No matter where U sat, good viewing!

This was one of the best shows I've ever seen . Great venue to see such a amazing musician

  • Al DiMeola ... simply the best

    by CatladyNJ on 3/1/15Sixth & I Historic Synagogue - WashingtonRating: 5 out of 5

This performance was incedible from start to finish, and well worth the trip from Jersey to D.C. Al DiMeola is a guitarist virtuoso. I have seen him many times before (including back in the 70s with Paco), and will continue to do so, making sure to see him again on this same tour when he comes back to his home state of New Jersey. I also really enjoyed this venue. The sound was good (even in the balcony), the lighting was pretty, and the atmosphere was intimate. The perfect combo!

  • Al Di Meola and his band were awesome

    by Sharpeedc on 3/1/15Sixth & I Historic Synagogue - WashingtonRating: 5 out of 5

A real blast from the past. You can see they really enjoy their own music too. And such a nice intimate venue.

  • Al Di Meola at his best

    by canaya on 3/1/15Sixth & I Historic Synagogue - WashingtonRating: 4 out of 5

Excellent concert. Al played the most memorable hits from his early career mostly from Elegant Gypsy and Casino.

  • Al is the best ever

Al was amazing, the venue was great. One of the very best shows ever.

  • Outstanding total experience -

    by Jamie59 on 3/1/15Sixth & I Historic Synagogue - WashingtonRating: 5 out of 5

Al Di Meola delivered one of the best concerts I've seen him play since the 1970s. This "Elegant Gypsy" Tour exceeded my expectations. The setting was intimate, beautiful. acoustically perfection!!! The band members played magnificently. The setting was intimate, casual and comfortable. Al was funny and adorable It appeared that they really enjoyed playing to the crowd. Looking around the general population were in their 50s and 60s which was hilarious but I'm part of that age group so it was both funny and refreshing. I went with my 28 year old son and wife- we had a blast and decided to make this a yearly family event ...every year for many years they attend his shows. They said this show was the best that they've seen him play. Looking forward hearing all of his new album!!

  • Al Di Meola - fantastic - what can I say

    by guitarplayer1955 on 2/28/15Carolina Theatre - DurhamRating: 5 out of 5

I have to hand it to Mr. Di Meola for hanging in there all these years, his music has stood the test of time IMO, each performance is marked by something special for the crowd as we all experienced. I highly recommend going to see this master guitarist live and see in person how confidently he plays through all of the difficult musical passages with feeling and technical skill, it is something to experience in person and I for one am very glad not to miss it this year.
