Extreme alt-rock outfit AFI, short for A Fire Inside, continue to keep their punk rock spirit alive after more than two decades together. The four-piece California band, impressively composed of the same lineup since 1998, has revitalized hardcore punk ever since their 1991 beginning, though the crew didn’t see mainstream success until their 2003 platinum-selling “Sing the Sorrow.”
Since that time, AFI has satiated ticket holders at amped up concerts nationwide, either on their own headlining runs or as part of the Vans Warped Tour on several occasions.
After a four-year recording hiatus, AFI unveiled its ninth studio set, “Burials,” in October 2013. The collection, produced by Gil Norton (Foo Fighters, Jimmy Eat World), peaked at No. 9 on The Billboard 200. Some tracks on the Republic Records release (“17 Crimes” and “I Hope You Suffer” for example) lean more toward hard rock than horror punk or goth-punk, both labels AFI’s received with past work.

I love this band. I have loved them for over 20 years. I never get tired of seeing them live. They always put on a good show. Even if you aren’t feeling some newer stuff, they always throw in a little older stuff. We’re all getting old, and things change. Would you want to sing the same songs you wrote 20-30 years ago? Think about any kind of art or poetry you created that long ago. Are you still proud of it? Does it still feel representative of who you are? While I love the older stuff (esp for nostalgia’s sake) as much as anyone, you’ve gotta cut the guys a break. There are still lots of long-term die-hard fans singing together on the barricade. I don’t care what happens, I will always support this band. They have always been sweet, funny, cool guys that really do love and appreciate their fans, and the shows have always been super fun.
This review is more about the venue than AFI. The band was awesome so no complaints there. The venue, however, had terrible setup for the seating area at the platinum seating. Basically those that were seated anywhere from the 2nd-4th row couldn’t see the stage because of people in the front row. It’s not the people in the front row’s fault but it’s just not meant to have multiple rows for this type of an event. People from the platinum seats left their seats and gathered in the back against the wall just to see the stage. I felt bad for the shorter people that couldn’t see from the 2nd row due to a tall person in front of them. So they had to leave their seats and stand at the side by the aisle. Then they were told not to stand there because they weren’t allowing people there.
Yooo by far the best show of 2022 AFI had one hell of a show the palladium was big enough but still small enouh for it to feel extremely intimate davey interacted with the crowd and crowd surfed aswell will defenitly continue going to AFI shows whenever theyre in town
This is my 18th time seeing them. Always an amazing performance
Awesome show! Good mix of new and old music. Can’t wait to see them again!
You would think they would play longer with their 30 years of material.
I’ve seen this band at least 20 times since the 90’s and even though their sound has changed they are still extremely passionate about their music. They truly are gods. A good show to me is the definition of heaven on earth and every show is consistently like that.
on Thursday October 1, 2009 my dad took me to the AFI meet and greet and Crash Love album signing and my dad had to wait three hours in line to get me an event wristband and the album. My dad and I went to the Best Buy in Richfield, MN and I got a chance to talk to Adam Carson and he asked me if I was going to the concert on Friday October 2, 2009 and I told Adam Carson that I had to skip the concert for safety reasons. I got a chance to talk to Hunter Burgan too and I gave Jade Puget a high five and he said 'That's the best high five I've ever had' and I got a hug from Davey Havok but then there were some teenagers who were trying to wreck it for everyone else. I was so lucky to actually meet AFI in person and actually talk to them which is way awesome.
I’ve listened to AFI since I was 14 I’m now 30 finally got to see them live with one of my all time favorite bands Smashing Pumpkins. AFI stole the show just with a few songs since they were the openers. Noel from oasis should’ve been the opener and AFI should’ve had the longer set. My uncle who has NEVER listened to AFI was at that show and bought a bunch of their merch and made us listen to AFI all the way home because he was so impressed. I drove 4 hours to see that show so luckily AFI has that much music to listen to. Can’t wait for them to headline again
Overall good energy and played a lot of great songs. Davey (the singer) came out into the crowd during a song and sang!! What an great show!!
What a night! Great performance and at such an amazing venue!!!!
This band is always fantastic LIVE. Outdoors is best -they sounded more clear. Setlist was short but absolutly worth the 1.5 hr drive! They never disappoint
That was the best AFI performance I've seen! Everything was awesome. Good vocals, great sound, lighting and energy! I love Davey!!!!
Every single band that played that night killed it! Vocals were amazing and the stage performances were so hyper and energetic
It was my fourth time seeing AFI and once again they didn't disappoint me. Davey is so charismatic and knows how to do the show. I would totally recommend it :)
The whole show was amazing but AFI rock harder, everything was on time, the only bad thing was that AFI only played for one hour.
Great sound quality and lights, band themselves sure knew how to miss a show and didn't miss a note.
This band is just amazing live! I've seen then 4 timeless this year and they just keep getting better. The setlist is different each time too which is pretty awesome.
I had never heard Circa Survive, but they put on a hell of a show. AFI has been my favorite band as long as I can remember and this was my 3 time seeing them. Davey and the boys never disappoint! Can't wait til they come back so I can see them again!
