    Adam Ant 2.0

by JefeTheBandito on 9/30/12Seminole Casino - Coconut Creek

First off I want to emphasize that I'm a huge, but honest, Adam Ant fan. With the exception of 'Dirk Wears White Sox', I have every studio album he ever recorded including the drum machine backed 'Manners & Physique'. The second I heard Adam Ant's music as a teen in 1981, I was drawn to the incredible Burundi drum beats, the guitar work and raw edge of the lyrics and vocals. I first saw him in 1983 right after 'Friend Or Foe' came out, at Adam Ant's height of popularity. That was most incredible show I had ever seen up to that point. The drummers were in perfect sync, the horn section was incredible and his stage prescence was magnetic. Fast forward 30 years. The only artist that I can fairly compare him to in a certain way is David Bowie. Bowie had his 'Ziggy Stardust' persona but morphed it over time to the 'Slim White Duke' and eventually to neoclassicist Bowie. I thought that's where Adam was going when you look at the album covers like 'Strip', 'Vive Le Rock' and 'Wonderful'. Honestly, as I was watching the concert on Friday, I had to keep reminding myself that I wasn't watching Johnny Depp in a scene from 'Pirates Of The Caribbean'. Most of the songs were played way too fast. Rather than the band singing background chants in the classics from 'Kings Of The Wild Frontier' through 'Friend Or Foe', the audience was filling in. The drummers appeared to be playing different things rather than appearing to be in sync and songs that were recorded with horns (i.e. 'Desperate But Not Serious') were terribly missed. I'd rather have seen a keybord player playing the missing horns on a synthesizer, after all keyboards today can sound like anything you want them to, than seeing some female singer who seemed to do more gyrating than singing. I feel that if Marco Pirroni, who always seemed to be Adam's musical advisor and friend, was part of this tour he'd set Adam's band right. Yes, as I said, I'm a huge Adam Ant fan and I know a lot about his music and him. I feel that us hardcore devotees from the 80's will leave the concert feeling empty like I did. I've seen Paul McCartney several times and he gives you exactly what you expect each time, and you know what, he's got the same number of musicians on stage as Adam. I have a certain philosophy; either do it right or don't do it at all.

    Adam Ant is a god!

by ANGVU on 9/27/124th and B - San Diego

though the tickets stated the show starts at 8pm the opening band didnt start until 9pm and Adam didn't start until 10pm. Either way Adam Ant is still amazing after all these years. It made me fall in love with him and the music all over again. He played 29 songs!! He did a great . It was well worth the 1 1/2 hour drive to san diego and the hotel cost.

    Adam Stands and Delivers!

    by Tigerbaby33 on 9/22/124th and B - San Diego

Adam Ant has still got it. His voice is in great shape and can hit all the high notes that are signatures in some of his songs. Die hard fans like me, were treated with songs from Dirk Wears White Sox and B-sides. All the hits were performed as well. He has a new album coming out in January. Adam played 1 song from it called Johnny Vincent. A sound similar to the Friend or For/Strip era. If you missed this show, get your ass the Ventura Theater or the Galaxy in October.

    He's a Dandy

by SushiShel on 9/19/124th and B - San Diego

If you are coming to see Adam remind you how much of a "dandy" he is, you won't be disappointed. He performed the classic and a few new ones. The trashy stripper like back up singer was just annoying.

    Adam Ant was absolutely amazing!!!!

by Bettybass on 9/19/124th and B - San Diego

Adam Ant has been my favorite for 32 yrs!! His long absence was missed, but he came back with a vengeance! He sang his earlier punk stuff which is my favorite. He didn't miss a beat, yes he's older, but he can still command an audience! Making everyone dance and sing ant music for sex people!!!!!

    Adam Killed It!

by JesseWatkinsGrandson on 9/18/124th and B - San Diego

Really great show! For a guy about to turn 58, he still has all the moves and sex appeal as he ever did, and hearing the rarer originals from "Dirk Wears White Sox" as well as the chart toppers like "Strip", "Prince Charming" and "Stand and Deliver" really made for a truly entertaining evening. If you get the chance, you have to see him to believe it...

    King of the Ant Hill

    by NewWave1 on 9/18/124th and B - San Diego

There's no doubt that in the 80s, Adam Ant ruled the Ant Hill, in fact he ruled the world. After a long period of hibernation, due in part to personal demons, Adam is back. If you want to call it that... Adam still has a huge sway of charisma, and he is engaging in an almost humorous swashbuckling kind of way. The main problem was the music, which seemed to be lacking in production values. The mix was lost in an avalanche of throbbing bass and crashing drums. Adam's music was always either lush, full of varied instrumentation, or simply a driving rocking march. His current touring band is simply too rock and roll. Gone is the brass, keyboards and layered rhythms. In it's place, only guitars, bass and drums. Adam is good, if fact he still borders on greatness. He just needs to recreate the songs that made him, and then the 80s will come "alive" once again.

    He's still go it!

    by alvie666 on 9/18/124th and B - San Diego

Wow. Played lots of Dirk WWS stuff, had the dual drummers (the only act I've ever felt actually warranted it), great band, Georgina Baille for eye candy, and really a mad genius at the helm. The crowd bellowing out every chant. Fantastic show.

    Adam Ant

by catfox on 9/17/124th and B - San Diego

I've not been to a show like this since I saw The B-52's and Oingo Boingo at the Hollywood Paladium in the early 80's. What a wonderful show, I can't wait until he returns to L.A. Very talented bunch and the Brothers of Brazil are quite unique and very, very entertaining. Adam Ant is quite a character and put on an awesome show.

    Adam Ant - bit disappointing

by caramc on 9/17/124th and B - San Diego

He really should have never moved away from his traditional drum sound. They really added so much to his unique sound and added a depth to the music that was really lacking with this come back show. He did have 2 drummers, but they still didn't have the same sound. However, his voice is still pretty good. A little rough here and there, but not terrible for a man who is almost 60! His moves are gone though. Came off a little awkward when he tried to move. Still fun. Ok venue too.

    The Return of Prince Charming

by Toonz on 9/17/124th and B - San Diego

If you're a loyal fan of the 80's icon then you know we've been waiting a very long time for this. Not even counting the fact that these shows were rescheduled from almost this time last year! But worth the wait it was and as been proven time and time again, Adam Ant stands AND delivers. This, his second date on the U.S. leg with the Good, the Mad and the Lovely Posse, was as strong as it gets. And it most surely will only get better. While we wait for the official release of his new album; "Adam Ant Is The Blueblack Hussar in Marrying The Gunner's Daughter," rest assured that this set list will leave most fans completely satisfied and sweaty with glee. He manages to tap into, not only the beloved, but also a smattering of B-sides and rarities never before heard live on stage by many. it is 2 hours of non stop chanting, yelling, yodeling and bouncing, with one new tune and at least one cover thrown in for good measure. I said this in the 90's and so i'll say it again; I hope Adam Ant will maintain his rightful place in the pantheon of new romantic adventure rock and keep us entertained for years to come. He was missed and hopefully (again) knows how much.

The master and commander still Stands and Delivers

by Windycitywoman on 9/17/124th and B - San Diego

I had a great time at Adams' show. He played the old faves like strip and good two shoes. Also new tunes as well. Still had a fun stage presents. What he lack-which wasn't much-his band more than made up for-The good, the mad, and the lovely posse. The swag was great because he's one of the few performers out there that sell programs! A staple for any concert in the 80's! A good history was found in there along with new and old photos. Another great thing I love about this concert was the people who attended. Adam Ant was ahead of any rocker today when it came to (embracing the look, maybe unintetously) the steam punk movement minus the brass gogles! Many who might be also be part of the steam punk community, but definately had thier best pirate grab on for the night event. Also there and not to be for gotten are the goths who came to show thier support. It was so hot that day I was sweating so much. I didn't feel like I could dress up much less wear make up. Kudos to thoses who did and/or had air at home/car! I came looking hip 40+ best in my somewhat punk/pirate gere. I had a great time as did everyone else who did attended. I never had the chance to see his shows back in the day lack time and money, but sure glad I was able to on saturday!

Great Concert -- Adam hasn't lost his touch

    by Stargazer2400 on 9/17/124th and B - San Diego

Adam is a master entertainer and nothing has changed about that. The only complaint I had was that the concert time wasn't printed. Doors opened at 7 but the opening band didn't start until well after 9 p.m. It was nice that 4th & B does have both seats and General Admission though, so at least we didn't have to stand for two extra hours. The opening band, Brothers of Brazil were great as well, and a good, young complement to Adam. If you love Antmusic, this concert won't let you down. Oh but he does need to get rid of his Jessica Rabbit backup singer, the woman cannot sing! I hope she's at least his girlfriend because otherwise, I see no reason for her other than eye candy. Her voice was nails on a chalkboard.
