Ace Frehley Live in Concert

Born Paul Daniel "Ace" Frehley in Bronx, New York, Ace Frehley started playing the guitar at 13. He never went to a music school, nor did he ever take a guitar lesson since every member of his family played instruments. He spent the early '70s in a series of local bands. In 1973, he co-founded the American rock band KISS. He departed the band in 1982 and went on to lead a successful solo career. His 1978 solo output -- KISS: Ace Frehley (released as part of the KISS solo albums) -- went platinum. In 1984, he assembled, amongst others, drummer Anton Fig and bassist John Regan to form a group with a name that alternated between Ace Frehley and Frehley's Comet. This group recorded a series of demos throughout 1984 and 1985, and performed their first-ever live show at S.I.R. Studios in New York City on November 30, 1984. In 1987 he released Frehley's Comet and it charted on the Billboard 200. He subsequently returned to KISS in 1996 for a highly successful reunion tour. In 2004, he tied with Paul Stanley at No. 14 on Guitar World's list of the 100 Greatests Heavy Metal Guitarists of All Time. Frehley's influences include artists such as Jimi Hendrix and Albert Lee, among others. In 2014, Frehley, along with the original members of KISS, were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. His 2020 solo album Origins, Vol. 2, charted on the Billboard 200.

Opening band really sucked, and what was with the sound for Ace, all you heard was the guitar, good thing he is not a singer, cause when you did hear him sing, it was horrible

Ace selected songs from a diverse plethera of albums- I have been to hundreds of concerts and the set list which he chose for this concert will never be matched by any band- If you get a chance check out the setlist- I , along with others wish Ace would tour more.....But Thanks for the memories !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

overall I thought ace played well-ace and his band made a point to play a nice mix of material to satisfy all fans; he's got to remember to stay near his mike a little better; the overall mix was o.k. throughout the show; poor at times with very little punch on the bottom end and low leads and the vocals were at times(in the mix that is) all over the place. the ace frehley VIP experience(a seperate admission/package purchase) which I did attend was like throwing money in the wind. totally like being robbed.

  • ACE IS BACK!

by vs3kiss on 3/22/10Nokia Theatre Times Square - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

Ace was just amazing! The best he has ever played since leaving Kiss. His riffs were incredible! With some of the best guitar playing ever. The home town crowd went crazy. Ace is back and I told you so. Rock and Roll all night!

  • A True Master

by fit4boxing on 3/22/10Nokia Theatre Times Square - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

Ace Frehley produce a memorable night which will be long lived. Taking us into the past and present with classics and new classics. Ace's Frehley sense of humor is something which should be considered for a reality show., or even a movie. He is a very entertaining space man, which just add to his overall unique style. He is the icing on the cake for what kiss was., and the missing puzzle to kiss to date. Tommy Thayer is a fine guitarist but will never, never be an Ace's. There is only One ACE FREHLEY.

  • Ace is back and better than ever!

by allthatjazznj on 3/22/10House of Blues Atlantic City - Atlantic CityRating: 5 out of 5

I have been a long time Ace Frehley fan. I have seen all of his shows with Frehley's comet and I have to say with Ace's newly vamped sobriety and lifestyle I have to say that this is the most stellar Ace Frehley you will ever experience. I think he is back with a vengeance - the volume was so loud I was deaf for 2 day's in a good way. The audience wasn't that loud but then again it was Atlantic City so they probably were in shock of what they were experiencing. The only thing that would have put the icing on the cake for me would have been "Dark Light" from Music from the Elder but dammit maybe we can get that next tour.... His new band is stellar and outstanding. ACE PLEASE PUT OUT MORE ALBUMS AND HIT US WITH MORE TOURS! I am sold on this Rock Soldier...Calling Rock Soldiers

  • Ace Frehley RULES

by scorourke on 3/22/10Nokia Theatre Times Square - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

Ace Frehley will never disappoint! He is a guitar legend and has no problem proving it - his supporting band is quite phenomenal as well and make for a great, well-rounded rock 'n' roll extravaganza! As nice as it is to see Ace in a less formal venue, I don't think he and his band would have ANY problems selling out much larger arenas - his musicianship is spot-on and there is no doubt in your mind, once Ace starts playing, that this IS the ONE and ONLY Spaceman

Un-frickin-believable! Ace is the man...He always puts on one hell of a show. I was satisfied as a KISS fan, an ACE fan, and a Rock and Roll fan!

  • Finally, Ace Gets His New York Groove On

by MLB1 on 3/22/10Nokia Theatre Times Square - New YorkRating: 4 out of 5

What a treat after all these years of being a KISS fan to finally see Ace perform a full solo gig. He was in great musical form, and really seemed comfortable and relaxed. The guy has undoubtedly gone through all kinds of drinking and drug problems, but he seems clean and sober now and was really rocking. Just once (during Hard Times) did he seem to mix up some verses. He played quite a few Kiss songs, including a few (Deuce, Shout it Out Loud and Love Gun) which he didn't write.

  • Ace Rocked the house..... Must See!

by jrac on 3/22/10House of Blues Atlantic City - Atlantic CityRating: 5 out of 5

Ace rocked the house. He is in better shape than ever, sounded incredible, now that he is not monitored by Gene. Kiss songs never sounded so good, The drummer was able to hit all of Gene and Paul's parts perfectly.

  • Kicked AZZ

I usually don;t review shows right away, but no-one should miss Ace! Played some Kiss tunes, as expected, and all the best of! SWEEEEEEEEEEET! Don;t miss out! As you can see, everyone was having a blast!

  • Worst Sound/Show EVER!!!!!

by rttd on 3/22/10House of Blues Atlantic City - Atlantic CityRating: 1 out of 5

Ace should be ashamed. Obviously he has lost his hearing. All he cared about was raising his guitar in his cabinets. the sound mixer at the Front of house kept raising the overall sound to compensate. TERRIBLE!!! Could not hear any vocals. No distinction between notes. First concert in 30 years I have walked out on. Will never go back to the House of Blues in AC again. As for Ace- give me back my money. I wanted to see (and hear) Ace Frehley. Did not go to see a washed up ex-KISS guitarist playing KISS covers. BAD show.

  • Ace can hold hold own!!

by VincePrince1 on 3/22/10Nokia Theatre Times Square - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

Ace proved he does not need to be a member of KISS to provide a great rock and roll show. Mixing both solo material with KISS songs (and even the Stones' "2000 Man"), Ace rocked for almost 1 hour and 50 minutes. His voice was in fine form and his sense of humor was on display as well, joking with the crowd and talking a bit about the songs (for example: When introducing "Pain In The Neck", he joked and said "I'm not gonna tell ya who I wrote this one about!". ) For the real Ace fans, he even threw in a smoking (literally) guitar solo and you could tell he was having fun on stage. His band is really rocking and they can sing like crazy, often taking the lead when Ace concentrated on his fills and solos. In fact, Ace turned over the vocals on a few of the songs to bassist Anthony Esposito and the drummer. By the way, the drummer (forgot his name) was tremendous and propelled the band with a great driving style. Suffice it to say, Ace gave a great show, was very appreciative of the audience that turned out and proved that you can give a great rock and roll show with no pyros! This was a fun rock and roll show. (It was also great to see Eddie Trunk and Don Jameson introduce the Ace!)

  • Ace Frehley Live

by nancyde on 3/22/10Nokia Theatre Times Square - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

I dreamed of seeing him again since I saw him at the Nokia in 2008. I got my wish last night. He is so exciting live- a consumate musicican and showman- the one and ONLY Ace Frehley! I was never a Kiss fan, being into different music in the 70's. When I heard the 1st Frehley's Comet album I went out and bought all the Kiss records just to hear Ace. I can't wait to see him again. He and the band rock so hard. It's hard to describe- you really need to see him live.

  • Ace is great, his band not so much.

by TheZIM on 3/22/10Nokia Theatre Times Square - New YorkRating: 4 out of 5

Ace Frehley still has it. The now sober guitarist can play the solos that are branded into our brains with ease. Backed by 3 younger guys who probably had his face on their lunchbox, Ace ran through mostly familiar tunes from his days with Kiss and his earlier solo work with Frehley's Comet. Only 2 songs from his latest cd "Anomoly" made the set list. While Ace played his signature solos his band struggled at times to keep up. Songs with tempo changes between the verse and chorus seemed to lose his band for a beat only to have them flounder to catch up. Overall though they will most likely work out all the kinks by the time the tour is over. I'd say go see Ace and lobby to get him into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

  • Ace still has it

Fantastic show. Drummer was incredible. Ace played the Kiss songs better than Kiss. Great job Ace. Come around more often.

  • by AceReviewer on 3/22/10Nokia Theatre Times Square - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

Ace was phenomenal. He played all different songs from KISS and his solo career.
