BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
New Orleans-born Aaron Neville began performing in the late ë50s and quickly became a local sensation thanks to his smooth, singular voice and emotional delivery. Regional success gave way to national attention in 1960 when his single ìOver Youî reached No. 21 on the R&B charts. He scored another major chart breakthrough in 1966 when his song ìTell It Like It Isî topped the charts, but the peak of his success came when he and his brothers formed The Neville Brothers in 1977. The group was an R&B powerhouse throughout the ë80s and ë90s, releasing a string of popular albums and earning a Grammy Award in 1989 for Best Pop Instrumental Performance for the song ìHealing Chantî. Aaron revived his solo career in the ë90s with the album Warm Your Heart, once again topping the charts with the soft rock No. 1 ìEverybody Plays the Foolî. Since then heís released a new album every few years while continuing to impress fans with his rich voice and time-honored showmanship whenever and wherever he performs.
He just plain entertained us! Great singing and great band and overall great evening!
Great venue. Staff was very helpful and friendly. All together had a great time and I would recommend Belterra Casino to everyone.
I jumped at the chance to go to a concert to see and hear Aaron Neville. His voice is so beautiful. He is 78 and I am 75, so I don't know if the opportunity will come my way again. I wasn't disappointed.
The show was wonderful. Nice venue. Not a bad seat in the house. Nice mix of tunes. Not too loud. Great length.
Nice venue, very comfortable, good viewing from all seats. Great acoustics. Wonderful concert.
I’ve loved Aaron Neville since I bought his 45 record “Tell It Like it is” in 1966! His concert had a great combination of his music and covers of other artists. And had a great quartet. Keep up the good work!
His choice for songs brought us back to our youth. His voice is his instrument and what a beautiful sound. And all this done at the age of 78. We will continue to attend his concerts as long as he continues to perform live.
Nice place. great atmosphere, and place. Need more concerts like this with people my age in the 40's & 50's.
Aaron Neville has long been a favorite of our family. It was great to finally see him in person. He put on a great show and we thoroughly enjoyed.
The music was great! Seats were good. Some of the concerts were attend the people and up and roaming around the whole time! Most everyone there just sat and listened to The music and enjoyed the concert.
The man is 77 and does not miss a beat. ! AND sings for 1 1/2 hours non-stop once he is introduced. The Drummer, keyboard player, the Bass Guitar, and Electric guitar, were stellar real musicians. AND they could sing extremely Great!! It has been 5 years since I saw him last, so 'maybe' his voice is not as strong.. BUT the creative parts are still intense, sets the audience on fire with his specialty oldies. His sound techs were awesome. But, being it is Christmas time, the selections were right on the right mode--- an as always with much heart. Aaron Nevill just has a most unusual delivery and voice, is so appreciated, and not at all boastful. He is the REAL Deal..
Aaron Neville is a God Sent Angel. He blesses you with his music. His music heals and soothes the mind and soul. I'm at peace when listen to Aaron Neville.
Wonderfully entertaining! It was everything I expected. My 84 year mom left asking when was the next show. My family went as a group of six. Thanks for the great holiday celebration.
Great music, it was fun, the whole crowd was carried along on this amazing experience. Everyone was smiling , singing along to every song. Aaron has the voice of an angel, great entertainer. His back up band were top, wonderful musicians. My husband and I would go again tomorrow if he came back here. Pure enjoyment and great entertainment.
Aaron Neville's music was mellow and beautiful. He shows a great deal of emotion when singing. He sang soft romantic songs as well as several upbeat tunes. He sings solo, delivered awesome vocals and a pleasant evening.
The Aaron Neville Duo was lacking the variety and pizazz I expected from a New Orleans style musician. Aaron and his pianist could play for hours doing pop hits and the American Songbook. But after an hour, I realized it was somewhat monotonous - it was more like Johnny Mathis than the soulful, energetic performance I was expecting.
The concert , after a fantastic opening act , consisted of Aaron and his manic piano player ,singing from his vast catalog of songs. His extraordinary voice was simply and beautifully showcased. An intimate evening with an true icon of music.
I really enjoyed the concert. Just wished the band had accompanied him!!
I sent my mom and aunt to see Mr. Neville, and they said that they had a wonderful evening. I failed to send them to see him last year, and was happy to know that he was returning this summer. Both loved the way he arranged his music, and the attention he gave to both his own list of recordings, as well as how he covered other musicians. My mom had hoped that he would sing Ave Maria, but he ended with Amazing Grace. I'm happy that he sang my favorite line ... if you want yourself a play thing, go and get yourself a toy. They loved the food and that it was reasonably priced.
Have always loved Aaron Neville and still will. But this performance was disappointing. Think his unusual voice is hard to sustain now. Admittedly I’m no spring chicken either, which could be why I found almost all his conversation impossible to understand. At some point I believe he said he would throw away the play book he was often using. If so, that would be a great idea. I felt sort of insulted by his use of it to cover tired old pop tunes better sung by originators. I can only imagine how physically demanding a solo concert is, especially at 77. Still I wish he could have stood occasionally and come from behind his mostly unused keyboard for better connection with audience. It made a difference at end when he did. His piano player was good. Hadn’t been to the Birchmere in ages. Logistics were great. Easy free parking. Efficient ticket pickup, bar and food service. Line up etc. sat with some nice strangers too.
