About

GENTLEMAN’S GUIDE tells the uproarious story of Monty Navarro, an heir to a family fortune who sets out to jump the line of succession by—you guessed it—eliminating the eight pesky relatives who stand in his way. All the while, Monty has to juggle his mistress (she’s after more than just love), his fiancée (she’s his cousin but who’s keeping track?), and the constant threat of landing behind bars! Of course, it will all be worth it if he can slay his way to his inheritance… and be done in time for tea. The Hollywood Reporter raves, “GENTLEMAN’S GUIDE RESTORES OUR FAITH IN MUSICAL COMEDY” and The New York Times cheers, “IT WILL LIFT THE HEARTS OF ALL THOSE WHO’VE BEEN PINING FOR WHAT SOMETIMES SEEMS A LOST ART FORM.” Kindly get your tickets now for the musical that will have you dying with laughter.

    Amazingly Done

by JDSto on 1/10/16State Theatre - Minneapolis

I am by no means a huge musical fan, but I thoroughly enjoyed this performance, and have recommended it to a lot of people should they ever have the opportunity to see it themselves. The stage work, and the actors interaction with the stage was spot on and added an incredible living environment for which to show the audience the world. A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder has entered the short list as one of my favorites now; there was even a time that I was so entranced, I forgot I was in a theater.

    Enjoyable evening.

by NotDonald on 1/9/16State Theatre - Minneapolis

I love broadway shows. This has much to recommend it. The music was fast paced and intelligent. My only concern is what it says about the state of society when a serial murder is the hero. I guess if I was in the 1% I'd be worried.

    Just not into it

by Suzemin on 1/9/16State Theatre - Minneapolis

How can I not love a musical? I don't know but it was just not my kind of humor I guess. It seemed like it was over the top and almost slapstick. The music was good and had some complexity to it but there weren't the typical solos and striking or moving moments that I'm used to in musicals. Most people seemed to really like it so my opinion is not a common one but it just wasn't as expected overall.

    Very Spirited Production

by yoshi921 on 10/22/15DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - Durham

I thoroughly enjoyed this performance. The cast had great voices and did a wonderful job with timing and delivery. It certainly lived up to reviews that I had read prior to attending.

    Tuneful and witty

by Seasonedtheatergoer on 10/21/15DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - Durham

This show is based on a old novel that was turned into one of my favorite British comedies, "Kind Hearts and Coronets." Happily the transfer from novel to film to stage went well and the result is a delight. A wonderfully inventive staging, with projections used as I've never seen them before. Mind you, you might not come away humming the tunes - though "Poison in My Pocket" is devilishly clever - but you'll have a marvelous time. The road company, having played only one previous date, was fresh and quite on top of things (October 2015, Durham NC).

    Gentleman's Guide Was Splendid!

by SMB3CC on 10/21/15DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - Durham

"A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder" was simply fantastic in all respects. The quality of all singing was giant, the orchestra was excellent, the stage sets were incredibly well thought out and cleverly contributed to the audience experience, the costuming was excellent, and the show itself appeared to have been run flawlessly. It was such a pleasure to be able to wholeheartedly enjoy the show and its jokes and fun and pageantry just like a child might. Perhaps not a show for the pretentiously sophisticated, but my friends and I had such fun!

A Gentleman's Guide to Love & Murder was AMAZING!

by Sharinette on 10/21/15DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - Durham

I was so happy when DPAC announced that Gentleman's Guide would be part of the 2015/2016 Broadway series. Every since I saw the Tony Awards and saw just a bit I've wanted to see this musical and it was worth every penny.

    Guide to a Great Night!

by MusicDirMama on 10/21/15DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - Durham

When my daughter and I visited NYC last spring, Gentleman's Guide was the one show on our priority list that we weren't able to catch, so we jumped at the chance to see it at DPAC. It did not disappoint! Except for the size of the house, we couldn't tell that we weren't right back on Broadway, and at intermission, we were able to move from the upper balcony to 4th row orchestra seats whose occupants had never arrived. From both locations, the music, the costumes, the staging, the sound, and - of course - the performances - were all at a level that would wow us in NYC or anywhere else in the world. We will be coming back to DPAC very soon!

If It Comes, GO SEE IT

by Moe27615 on 10/21/15DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - Durham

My wife and I missed Book of Mormon when it was originally here in Raleigh/Durham and spent the next the year trying to catch it at our vacation locations across the country; eventually succeeding in Washington, DC. Comparatively, I enjoyed this much, much more. Unfortunately, A Gentleman's guide to Love and Murder only has short tour dates, on average 3-4 days, so by the time someone you know sees and tells you about it,,,IT'S GONE. GREAT ACTING, GREAT MUSIC, GREAT SET. The DYSQUITH'S ARE DYING TO SEE YOU!

Good Show, Well Performed, kudos to DPAC

by JEBXXX on 10/20/15DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - Durham

Cast sings well, articulates rapid fire difficult lyrics with intelligibility. Not a heavy plot- nothing symbolic or revealing- just good fun.

Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder

by Teddyli on 10/20/15DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - Durham

One of the BEST plays I've seen! Not for everyone since you had to have an appreciation for subtle British humor! Too bad people left during the first Act and didn't give it a chance.

    Guide to a Gentlemen's Guide

by Woodspirit on 10/20/15DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - Durham

It is always interesting to see how the Brits view their aristocracy with equal parts admiration and bemused contempt. A Gentlemen's Guide to Love and Murder is a delightful romp through the thinning of the upper ranks. The actor playing the entire D’Ysquith family gave a tour de force performance of quick changes and comedic timing. Odd to find one's self rooting for a serial murderer, but, really, what's a gentleman to do? The entire cast gave a bravura performance that was enjoyable start to finish, with wonderful staging and a delightful, if somewhat twisted story. Well worth the cost of admission, in all respects.

    Fun musical

by Mac1919 on 10/20/15DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - Durham

I didn't know much about this play, but remembered I liked the song they performed on the Tonys. It was a fun story with catchy music. Nothing life changing, but very well done with excellent performances. I definitely recommend this show!

    it was okay

by dogtired18 on 10/20/15DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - Durham

it was my daughter's 21st birthday and we both enjoy the theater and this was really the only play in town. also i had high expectations due to the plays receipt of last year's tony for best musical. this is a 'period piece' which took place in the early 1900s in london. the costumes were gorgeous, although not really my cup of tea. the accents combined with the singing made it sometimes hard to understand the words and dialogue. the singing was more 'classical' bordering on operatic which while outstanding in and of itself, is just not our style. the actors were talented and the stage was fun. the tickets were extremely expensive and compared to all other plays i have seen, this one was just ok.
