GENTLEMAN’S GUIDE tells the uproarious story of Monty Navarro, an heir to a family fortune who sets out to jump the line of succession by—you guessed it—eliminating the eight pesky relatives who stand in his way. All the while, Monty has to juggle his mistress (she’s after more than just love), his fiancée (she’s his cousin but who’s keeping track?), and the constant threat of landing behind bars! Of course, it will all be worth it if he can slay his way to his inheritance… and be done in time for tea. The Hollywood Reporter raves, “GENTLEMAN’S GUIDE RESTORES OUR FAITH IN MUSICAL COMEDY” and The New York Times cheers, “IT WILL LIFT THE HEARTS OF ALL THOSE WHO’VE BEEN PINING FOR WHAT SOMETIMES SEEMS A LOST ART FORM.” Kindly get your tickets now for the musical that will have you dying with laughter.
Play was very well done. It was amusing and entertaining
One of the funniest musicals I have seen, up there with Spamalot. The cast was outstanding, excellent singers. Choreography was great and the set was unbelievable. Recommend this is seen by everyone who likes to laugh.
I didn't really know what to expect from this show but it was fantastic. I laughed many times. Wonderful voices and costumes and energy from the cast. I would go see this musical again.
What a wonderful and talented cast. Not just the words they spoke but their facial expressions and inflections made this both entertaining and unforgettable. I would ask anyone I. The remaining tour cities to please see this talented group and Tony winning play.
Funny and entertaining. Really enjoyable!. Show was very well done
This was a very humorous and entertaining performance. Well worth seeing.
Very funny engaging play. The characters are hilarious, especially the main character. If you need an uplifting good time go see this. Thank you
It was a really good time! The show was a lot of fun!
The show was amazing. So funny. The singing and dancing was phenomenal
We were so glad we went. Lots of laughs and just a good time.
Great show. Loved the numbers and the creative use of the sets. Not a fan of all the stairs in the Stephens auditorium in Ames IA Because I have bad knees but all in all definitely worth it.
A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder was lots of fun to watch. A very funny musical.
We decided to get tickets on a whim a week before the show and it was one of our best decisions. With no knowledge of this musical, the advertising was what got our attention. From beginning to end, this production was truly amazing. The cast and crew are all talented beyond imagination. Definitely a show to see!
The play was very clever in many ways. First one actor playing 8 parts. And doing them so well. The stage set was the most clever I had ever seen. It was everything from a climb to a belfry, to a ice skating lake , a beekeepers hit , and a two room apartment. Just wonderful. The musical lyrics were equally clever. It is a must see show!
Unfortunately we sat in the top balcony and had a hard time hearing and seeing. It was a cute production with talented performers. The Von Braun Center Concert Hall is looking worn.
This was a terrific show. Amazing set. Extremely talented actors. Lovely auditorium with comfortable, roomy seating and great sound. Everyone was pleasant and helpful. A perfect evening.
This is a delightful musical. The story is fun, the sets were creatively done but the tempo of the play was a bit off. There were several pauses where it appeared lines were forgotten. The timing dragged a bit with the comedy. That said, it was an enjoyable evening at the theatre.
This show is curious to say the least. The story is of Monty Navarro, a poor man living in New York City who discovers that he's not only a member of the aristocratic D'Ysquith family in England, he's also ninth in line to inherit the earldom of Highhurst. He then proceeds to "take care of" each of the D'Ysquith family member inheritors in order for him to become Lord Montague "Monty" D'Ysquith Navarro, Ninth Earl of Highhurst, but can he get away with it?! The sets in this show are detailed, and unique to each character and their situations. The costumes greatly reflect the Edwardian era style of fashion making the show a very time-period piece. The music was nice to listen to. The acting in this show was campy, energetic, and very well done. Some actors play multiple roles but the best one is the actor who plays the D'Ysquith family. He alone plays 9 different D'Ysquith family members, each with their own unique characteristics. However, the show did have some cons. They seemed to have staged the show inside a mini theater on stage, which reduced the amount of space the actors had to work with, however they made up for it by using some of the best screen/sound/special effects I've seen! Due to the restrictive fashion in 1907, there wasn't much choreography when it came to the musical numbers. The songs were nice to listen to but pretty forgettable. The acting was very well done but because it's a comedy and takes place in early 1900's England, the characters spoke with exaggerated old-timey sounding British accents that made it difficult to understand what they were saying or singing at times. Lastly, while there were some funny moments, there were also some dull ones. I almost feel like this show would have worked better as a full on play rather than a musical. Having said that, I by no means hate this show. The way the D'Ysquiths die, the special effects, and the ending make worth seeing this show at least once.
Excellent show! Very cleverly done! Very catchy tunes "I am standing here with poison in my pocket!"
The cast did a good job, but there was nothing memorable about this show. The songs were not lively enough.
