  • Hilarious

by Patrick on 12/17/19Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts - RaleighRating: 5 out of 5

We go to this every year and it is just the thing to get me in the christmas spirit. It is a very silly production with lots of great music and a good message. Not sure i liked the prechosen kid for scrooges magic trick (though the actual kid was adorable and hilarious). My family had a great time!

  • A Christmas Carol is a big hit!

by Deckjr on 12/17/19Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts - RaleighRating: 5 out of 5

I thoroughly enjoyed Ira Wood's version of the classic tale. It took the audience on an amazing emotional roller coaster from joy to sadness and empathy. The lighthearted attempt to mix current events into the play was well received by all. I would recommend the play be seen by all Christmas enthusiasts.

by Jess on 12/17/19Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts - RaleighRating: 5 out of 5

Love this show! Go every year, but this year I took my pre-teen. Even he loved it. Great show, and set up. Bathrooms and concession well kept. Parking easy and convenient.

  • Christmas Spirit - Check!

by ValGal on 12/16/19Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts - RaleighRating: 5 out of 5

From beginning to end, this long-standing tradition never disappoints! Mixing humor with the true reason for the season, it reminds us all what really matters. I love this musical and will continue enjoying it every year! And the new updated soundtrack is much needed and much appreciated! If you have never seen this musical, you must take the time to integrate it in to your holiday season. It will more than likely become an annual tradition as it has for me and so many others! TIP puts on a real quality show!

by Christmas Tradition on 12/16/19Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts - RaleighRating: 5 out of 5

This is one of my favorites. I’m so happy to be able to share this with my family. Always hilarious and always heart warming at the same time. The actors do a great job keeping your eyes glued on them. Bravo!!

  • A family tradition

by TR on 12/16/19Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts - RaleighRating: 5 out of 5

2019 was our 20th year attending this show and we can’t imagine Christmas without it. A wonderful experience!

  • A three stooges slapstick rendition

by J. on 12/15/19Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts - RaleighRating: 1 out of 5

Not for children (sev drug references, drunks, can can girls skimpily dressed, sexualized, crude humor). three stooges style, slapstick rendition of the Christmas Carol. Oddly, a few scenes were wonderful, serious, and like the original. But then boom, back to the hit in the privates “humor”. They even cut on the US President and had tons of political comments. People all around us were shocked as well. It was So bad you had to stay and watch it in shock.

  • Best Christmas Date

by Sister on 12/15/19Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts - RaleighRating: 5 out of 5

This play is so entertaining and a great way to relax and laugh. Each time we see it, it’s funnier than the last. We have always enjoyed it and have never been disappointed. The cast is always fabulous!! Highly recommend seeing it next year!!9

  • Not the Story I remember

by KWilliams on 12/15/19Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts - RaleighRating: 2 out of 5

So I’ll keep it quick and simple. I didn’t enjoy this production of Ira Woods “A Christmas Carol” mainly for all the comedic and political points that were added in. For me, Scrooge was trying to hard to be funny. The other actors seemed to have stuck with the script, while it seemed Scrooge went off on tangents constantly. When this would happen, the other actors just stood there when they were ready to say their next line. I won’t be back

  • Amazing!!!

by Woodson on 12/14/19Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts - RaleighRating: 5 out of 5

I’ve seen this show 20 times and it never disappoints. All families must share this with their children.

  • Best A Christmas Carol Ever!

by D. on 12/14/19Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts - RaleighRating: 5 out of 5

We had great seats at the Memorial Auditorium and the play was awesome! I had not been in several years and I believe this was the best one yet! David Ira Wood, III is phenomenal. The music is beautiful, the costumes are outstanding, and the scenery is gorgeous too. So entertaining yet still the wonderful story. LOVE!

  • Great show

by Ebeneezer on 12/20/18DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - DurhamRating: 4 out of 5

It was a great show! I have seen it many times, and it never gets old, and I like the fact that humor is thrown in. The only complaint I would give is that David Ira Wood needs to leave his political views out of the show. If the political views of the audience are split 50/50, then he is appealing to half the audience while upsetting the other half. The show would be just as good and funny if political views were left out.

  • A Strange Stew

by YA Writer on 12/20/18DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - DurhamRating: 2 out of 5

This was a very strange stew of a play with everything thrown in; slapstick, vaudeville, political humor, drama, Broadway, improv, sight gags, and everything else available. Great energy by the cast and crew, but forgettable music, long sequences, and just, odd. It doesn't hang together for me But, big, enthusiastic crowd and apparently a tradition among many area families, who clearly enjoyed the experience. Touching at the end. Very sweet, but I wouldn't see it again.

My husband and I went to see this as part of our 30th wedding anniversary in Durham and LOVED it! Our friends had recommended it as they go every year with their family. It was spectacular, very entertaining and fun! I’ll be back next year for sure.

  • It’s all about “the family tradition”

by DPAC Regular on 12/19/18DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - DurhamRating: 4 out of 5

It is becoming Price prohibitive For is to continue. I only hoe we can take the grandchildren again next year. Quite an expensive day!!....but I don’t want to imagine it not being a part of our Christmas

  • Always wonderful!!

by MKP on 12/19/18DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - DurhamRating: 5 out of 5

Ira Davis Wood III never disappoints! I come every year and I leave with Christmas spirit that I didn’t have when I arrived! This play is a great combination of humor, love and Christmas joy, with great lessons sprinkled in as well.

by Becca on 12/19/18DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - DurhamRating: 5 out of 5

Love the relevant updates each year...we NEVER tire of the performance! I just hope Ira David Wood 111 understands how much joy is derived from his talents and the talents of the entire cast and crew! Thanks to all for making Christmas so special!

  • Celebrating A Christmas Carol Year After Year!

by BethA on 12/19/18DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - DurhamRating: 5 out of 5

This unique show never disappoints! The mere fact that Ira David Wood III wrote this comedic musical based on Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol and has been playing Scrooge for over 40 years is amazing!! Some of the other cast members, like David Henderson's polished performance as Jacob Marley, have also been in the show year after year for over 24 years!! The roles are perfection and combine that with the colorful set and talented behind the scene crew, this show is a must see every Christmas! New twists are woven into the story every year and those are always cry-laughing moments that we look forward to! Great for the entire family to see, don't miss out and join in the fun with the original message of the story still intact. We plan on going every year!
