  • Charlie Brown Christmas NOT what I expected

by GGreeley on 12/17/17Verizon Center - MankatoRating: 4 out of 5

VERY disappointed in show. Our younger ones had no idea what was going on, for awhile the adults didn't know either. Definitely not what was expected. Would I go again, ABSOLUTELY NOT!!

  • Less than expected

by Tooltitan on 12/17/17Verizon Center - MankatoRating: 2 out of 5

We went to this show with two of our children and had floor seats- there really weren't any undesirable seating for this venue d/t the size of this arena. The show itself was somewhat disappointing when compared to the TV version. The quality of actors were on par with high quality High School or entry level Performing Arts at a College. Definitely not worth the price attached to these tickets.

  • Enjoyable

The performance was great, my five year old granddaughter was thrilled with the entire show. We sat in the front row and took advantage of a learning opportunity by sharing the talents of the sign interpreters. I was disappointed in the venue response after messaging them for contact information of the vendor. I purchased and item and when we arrived home the entire ornament was broken. I have one disappointed granddaughter now. Sure wish they would have gotten back to me.

Very slow moving , did not keep the attention of children.

This was a wonderful gem of entertainment. The characters came to life and the staging was creative and fun. The whole family loved it. I'd recommend it and would definitely see it again.

  • The Meaning of Christmas! Charlie Brown's Way

    by BeaBop49 on 12/12/17Rialto Square Theatre - JolietRating: 4 out of 5

An enjoyable play for children and adults alike. The true meaning of Christmas is brought out in this play without being over-done.... so everyone can understand.

  • It was OK, thought length was an issue.

by nfranken on 12/12/17The Santander Performing Arts Center - ReadingRating: 3 out of 5

Warning: I am only a lukewarm fan of Peanuts. The script was taken directly from the tv special. I don't think they deviated at all. The actors were OK, but not the best. I got the feeling that they were passed over for other more acclaimed shows. May main issue with the show was the length. The first part was 45 minutes long. This was fine and I expected this. I paid close to $300 for four tickets and assumed the show would last 1.5 hours. What I didn't expect was for intermission to last close to 25 minutes, though there could have been a problem going on backstage. What made it worse for me was only the first 10 minutes after the intermission was there actual acting going on. After 10 minutes, the show as over, exactly where the tv show ended. For the next 30 minutes, the cast sang Christmas carols. What the? I did not pay that much money to listen to actors sing Christmas carols. Now, many in the audience loved it and sang along. However, I feel that I can listen to these in the car if I want to listen to them (and often do).

  • Good but not great Charlie Brown Christmas

by AHDave on 12/11/17Rialto Square Theatre - JolietRating: 4 out of 5

The Charlie Brown Christmas at the Rialto Square was a good but little disappointing re-enactment of the classic Charlie Brown cartoon. While some parts were very good, mainly the music from the 3 piece band, I found the performances of the cast and the general casting to be lacking. The general tone of the cartoon is mostly sarcasm and melancholy. It felt like the cast did not want to go down this dark path and was a bit too positive. I also found the casting of the 3 main leads, Charlie Brown, Lucy and Linus to not be very strong. This being said, being a lover of the cartoon, I still enjoyed it and they added a nice touch by having the cast sing some Christmas carols after the show was over. Also, the performer who played Snoopy did his best to steal the show.

The cast did a wonderful representation of the original show. I took my mother for an early christmas present. We were both very satisfied!!!

  • Okay for kids, not for adults.

by Anonymous on 12/11/17Rialto Square Theatre - JolietRating: 1 out of 5

The show felt like a high school play and not a good one. My kids liked it, but not at a good time. Why take an intermission with 10 minutes left and then fill time with Christmas songs.

  • Such a great show!

  • Just ok

by 17fan17 on 12/3/17The Santander Performing Arts Center - ReadingRating: 3 out of 5

I expected something much more fun/original/dramatic than ordinary actors plating Peanuts characters to the music from the animated movie. I think my expectations were too high. It is also possible that nothing involving real people can ever match the magic of the animated "A Charlie Brown Christmas" movie. Kids seemed to get bored and as an adult, I was too. The actors did their best and were fine but....
