About

A Charlie Brown Christmas on Tour

Christmas comes but once a year, and so does A Charlie Brown Christmas, the Charlie Brown-iest of seasonal theatrical spectacles. Based on the Emmy- and Peabody-winning 1965 animated television special inspired by artist Charles M. Schulz's classic Peanuts comic strip, which ran from 1950 to 2000, A Charlie Brown Christmas has been an evergreen holiday event since 2013.

Set amid the wintry delights of Schulz's Minnesota childhood, A Charlie Brown Christmas finds the Peanuts gang working out the true meaning of Christmas for themselves in a world devoid of adult supervision. And if, like the musical's title character, you suffer from unfulfilled seasonal expectations, you'll find a natural palliative in composer Vince Guaraldi's jazzy score, which has sold more than four million copies since its initial release thanks to the irrepressible swing of songs like "Linus and Lucy," "Skating" and "Christmas Time Is Here."

About A Charlie Brown Christmas

Commissioned by the Coca-Cola company, A Charlie Brown Christmas was pitched, written and produced on a tiny budget for television in a flash in 1965. It became an unexpected hit and a holiday perennial on the strength of its delightful translation of the comic strip's iconic child cast to the small screen. The stage adaptation, authorized by the Schulz family and producer Lee Mendelson, retains everything delightful about the TV special, which was written by veteran TV director Bill Melendez.

As his friends skate and cavort in their winter wonderland, a depressed Charlie Brown gets out of his seasonal funk with the help of Lucy, who suggests he direct a Christmas play. Against all obstacles, a truly Charlie Brown Christmas tree — puny and bereft of glitz and glory — inspires a moving message about the true meaning of Christmas. Jazz composer Vince Guaraldi's lively songs alternate with classic Christmas carols, and productions often conclude with an audience sing-along.

    A Charlie Brown Christmas Musical

by Nancyjan61 on 12/20/23Great Cedar Showroom at Foxwoods Resort Casino - Mashantucket

My husband and I saw it at Foxwoods. It was awesome. The actors were very talented and it was very entertaining. Should be performed at the Palace Theatre in Manchester NH. Would definitely see it again.

A high school production is better

by MomofTwins on 12/20/23Great Cedar Showroom at Foxwoods Resort Casino - Mashantucket

We were all so disappointed in this performance. My husband fell asleep and the children with us were bored. The first half was so very slow and I've seen high school performances that were better. The second half was better and more lively and fun but still, I cannot believe we paid over $40 per ticket. Tried to just enjoy the songs and the holiday spirit but what a disappointment. So much fanfare for so little

    Awesome show

The show was amazing. They really portrayed the actual show. Snoopy acted just like “snoopy” would have. Highly recommend

    Worth the price

by Steve on 12/20/23Great Cedar Showroom at Foxwoods Resort Casino - Mashantucket

The music was excellent and well represented Vince Guaraldi's original score. The dancing was pretty good. As far as the acting, Snoopy was the best performer despite not having any dialogue.

My husband and I attended the noon show and it was absolutely wonderful. We've seen "A Charlie Brown Christmas"live before, and this did not disappoint. Thank you for making the holiday season come alive for us this year.

This was a grab and no way resembled the famous characters that you grew up with.

    Fun, but flawed

by Topher C on 11/24/23Steelhouse Omaha - Omaha

Overall, this was an entertaining show. However, it had some pretty significant flaws, too. First, there were way too many sharp, almost harsh, giggling moments, particularly early in the show. The first few times were ok, but it became very annoying very quickly. Secondly, while the guy playing Charlie Brown did a decent job, I was disappointed to see the hair. Charlie Brown is an iconic character, and getting the look right is important. Having the actor shave his head or wear a bald cap would have added a lot to the style. Now, we get to the production issues. First, the stage setup had extended curtains along the sides that "shrank"the stage width. However, it also provided a serious block to the view for a lot of people in the front rows at the sides. I saw multiple people get up and leave or try to find alternate seats because their view of the stage and the show was unnecessarily blocked. As if that wasn't bad enough, the lighting was abysmal. It looked as if they'd never practiced the lighting. There were dozens of times when the singing actor wasn't properly lit and multiple times where the poor lighting made it hard to see or tell what was going on. I'm not going to say I'm sorry I went to the show, but I'm disappointed that a show with so much potential completely failed to deliver on that potential.

    A great overall experience

We extremely enjoyed the performance by the students. The music got us into the spirit of the holiday season. Great execution by all.

    Not as expected

by Belle on 11/22/23California Theatre of the Performing Arts - San Bernardino

This play is kids performing and only lasted 53 min. For the price we paid I feel it was WAY overpriced!!! When it ended everyone said,”that’s it?!” What a waste of money and waste of a day

    Loved it. Vintage style!

by Tendayi on 11/22/23Genesee Theatre - Waukegan

The show itself had a vintage quality… the singing was outstanding and unique. The story was traditional but felt wholesome, warm, and good family fun. I was concerned that as an adult I would find the show too childish, but it’s a family show, for all ages. If they come back next year, I will get tickets of the show to give away as gifts to family members. Was refreshing to see something vintage/ traditional but good on stage. Well done!!

    Horrible!

by disappointed on 11/22/23Steelhouse Omaha - Omaha

I've been to high school productions that were better than this show. The sound was horrible and the lighting was even worse. The performers were in the dark about 1/4 of the time. The acting left much to be desired also. We left at intermission. I've NEVER done that before.

I expected something closer to storyline. It wasn’t for me and there 3 of us that left at intermission.

    Charlie Brown Christmas Live-Just Okay

by LPO on 11/22/23Genesee Theatre - Waukegan

Charlie Brown Christmas Live, was just okay. Very low budget. A few added songs that didn't need to be there. No need for an intermission, should run straight though. The intermission lost the crowd, and lots of families left.

    Terrible lighting

by AngelaY on 11/21/23Steelhouse Omaha - Omaha

Show was great but unfortunately couldn’t see half of what was going on due to terrible lighting. It’s like the main light person was gone that day.

    Great Show!

by Robin on 11/21/23Steelhouse Omaha - Omaha

The show was AMAZING!!!! Our grands loved it… it definitely deserved a 5+ rating if it wasn’t for the lights, which was NOT fault of the show itself! The lighting was the worst I’ve ever seen! I heard this was the first play they had ever had at this beautiful venue…. They need to fix the lighting before the next!!!!

    Short but fun

by Belinda on 11/21/23California Theatre of the Performing Arts - San Bernardino

Shorter than most plays… I feel like the tickets could have cost a little less. The venue has good seats all around, but the crowd in this town lacks theatre etiquette. It was fun for my daughter.

    Fun for the family

by Mjmg on 11/21/23Steelhouse Omaha - Omaha

The show was great and really enjoyed the singing and dancing. It was very family friendly. The lighting was not good at the front of the stage and the performer s were often in the dark. That was very distracting! And annoying! I was wishing they would put the lights on them the whole time.
