About

A Charlie Brown Christmas on Tour

Christmas comes but once a year, and so does A Charlie Brown Christmas, the Charlie Brown-iest of seasonal theatrical spectacles. Based on the Emmy- and Peabody-winning 1965 animated television special inspired by artist Charles M. Schulz's classic Peanuts comic strip, which ran from 1950 to 2000, A Charlie Brown Christmas has been an evergreen holiday event since 2013.

Set amid the wintry delights of Schulz's Minnesota childhood, A Charlie Brown Christmas finds the Peanuts gang working out the true meaning of Christmas for themselves in a world devoid of adult supervision. And if, like the musical's title character, you suffer from unfulfilled seasonal expectations, you'll find a natural palliative in composer Vince Guaraldi's jazzy score, which has sold more than four million copies since its initial release thanks to the irrepressible swing of songs like "Linus and Lucy," "Skating" and "Christmas Time Is Here."

About A Charlie Brown Christmas

Commissioned by the Coca-Cola company, A Charlie Brown Christmas was pitched, written and produced on a tiny budget for television in a flash in 1965. It became an unexpected hit and a holiday perennial on the strength of its delightful translation of the comic strip's iconic child cast to the small screen. The stage adaptation, authorized by the Schulz family and producer Lee Mendelson, retains everything delightful about the TV special, which was written by veteran TV director Bill Melendez.

As his friends skate and cavort in their winter wonderland, a depressed Charlie Brown gets out of his seasonal funk with the help of Lucy, who suggests he direct a Christmas play. Against all obstacles, a truly Charlie Brown Christmas tree — puny and bereft of glitz and glory — inspires a moving message about the true meaning of Christmas. Jazz composer Vince Guaraldi's lively songs alternate with classic Christmas carols, and productions often conclude with an audience sing-along.

  • Perfect way to start Christmas

What a perfect way to start Christmas! Creative without taking anything away from the beloved classic. Loved that there was live music! Very engaging for the younger patrons. And I totally cried during Linus' Christmas recitation.

I am a HIGE CB/Peanuts fan and was exciyed to see this coming to Atlanta. Overall I give it a 6/10. I was expecting more from the play, better costumes and whatnot. The singing and dancing was good though. I don't have to see it again thouigh

  • Not Worth the Money

by Geeg on 11/26/25Atlanta Symphony Hall - AtlantaRating: 1 out of 5

This show was so disappointing. I thought since it was at the Atlanta Symphony Hall that it would be great! Not much dialogue, too childish. I realize it’s Charlie Brown, but my 11 year old granddaughter’s play at her school had more dialogue in 30 minutes than this show did in 90 minutes. My two 11 year olds were so bored. It could have been so good! It was too much dancing and not enough acting. We were so bored, except my four year old enjoyed it. She was the only one. And they never actually did the nativity scene that’s part of the story. They left it out. So disappointing. I’m so glad we didn’t spend more than we did.

  • A family friendly event!

by KMinBR on 11/22/25Baton Rouge River Center Theater - Baton RougeRating: 5 out of 5

This was a wonderful family production. Our two boys, 9 and 6, both enjoyed. We sat front row, balcony and our only regret was not being in the orchestra when the cast threw out “snowballs” into the audience.

  • Wonderful experience!

by Lauren on 11/20/25Township Auditorium - ColumbiaRating: 5 out of 5

My family had a wonderful experience at the Township! The show was great and we all enjoyed it! The staff at the Township could not have been more helpful and pleasant! Every employee we encountered was polite, answered our questions easily, and directed us to what we needed. When my mother was having difficulties with the height of our seats, the kind employee who showed us to our seats advised us to go to the ticket office and let them know of our predicament. My mother was just not going to be able to get to our seats. The ticket booth employees were so friendly and quick, and immediately got us reseated where our whole family was able to enjoy the show together. It was a fantastic experience and we are so thankful to the staff of the Township!

  • Terrible

Horrible acting and bad dancing. Seats were not comfortable.

  • OVERPRICED

by Hippiesunleo on 11/19/25Duke Energy Center for the Arts - Mahaffey Theater - St PetersburgRating: 3 out of 5

As a lifelong fan of The Peanuts, I was very excited to see this, and while it mostly followed the TV special, I was disappointed with the show's amateurish acting, costumes, and set design, especially given the $90 ticket price. Although the music was excellent and Snoopy stood out, the overall production fell short, and I felt it could have been done much better. Also, Charlie Brown should NOT have had hair!

  • Excellent

  • Live event.

by Charlie Brown on 12/30/24Great Cedar Showroom at Foxwoods Resort Casino - LedyardRating: 3 out of 5

Our seats were in a very good spot. The event itself we feel could have been better. The performance felt like something you would see from junior high school or high school students. We were expecting a better show.

  • It was ok

by Gma on 12/30/24Great Cedar Showroom at Foxwoods Resort Casino - LedyardRating: 2 out of 5

I think the kids that were brought by their parents and grandparents had a good time and enjoyed the show, but I was expecting more. There was a lot of flailing and not as much substance. There was a carol singing portion that just kind of started and would have been more successful if explained to the kids that we were all going to sing carols together and the words should have been projected on screens. On the contrary, last year we went to How the Grinch stole Christmas at the Boch theater in Boston and it was fanctastic. I've also been to serveral Nutcrackers and Christmas Carols which were also very good. Don't mean to be a Grinch, but I would not recommend the show to others as it was just ok.

  • Cute Performance

by Cheryll on 12/30/24Great Cedar Showroom at Foxwoods Resort Casino - LedyardRating: 4 out of 5

The show was cute and kept everyone's attention. It definitely follows the peanuts Christmas show and book. If you are bringing children, there is a short intermission as well as a part of the show that includes the audience. I went with all adults and we had a good time.

  • Delightful!

    by Donna W on 12/26/24Rating: 5 out of 5

What a great little show. We really enjoyed it. The cast was amazing. Snoopy was hysterical. Loved Schroeder and Pig-Pen. It was a well needed good time. Thank you.

  • Grandson’s Favorite

by Grandma Kim on 12/21/24Atlanta Symphony Hall - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

I took my grandson to the show. We both loved it!! I loved all the Christmas carols added in, the fun audience participation, and the word for word dialogue just like the tv special! Extremely talented cast, we especially loved Snoopy and Sally! Definitely will look for this again!

  • Cute show

by Jess on 12/3/24Pasquerilla Performing Arts Center - JohnstownRating: 5 out of 5

Went to the show with husband, 18 year old daughter and 7 year old daughter we all loved the show! Very nostalgic! Reminded me of the show!

  • Well-done, but quite hard to see and hear clearly.y.

by Claire on 11/27/24DeVos Performance Hall - Grand RapidsRating: 3 out of 5

My two guests and I were near the front of the 1st balcony. The actors really did well, and especially the amazing piano player. But human-size figures are very difficult to see from that far back, especially their facial expressions. And I think we could have heard better if they spoke a bit more slowly and carefully. If the characters and action were magnified on large screens on the sides of the stage, we would probably have seen, understood, and enjoyed it better. The whole play was cute, but not worth $190, (including $25 parking!)

  • Great Performance

by GW34 on 11/26/24DeVos Performance Hall - Grand RapidsRating: 4 out of 5

This performance was excellent. It closely followed the original Charlie Brown Christmas script with a few extras. The kids all loved Snoopy and his antics got plenty of chuckles from the grown-ups, too. The performers had great singing voices and the Christmas carols they sang were great - some varied from the traditional renditions that we typically hear. Overall, I would give this two thumbs up (because I only have two thumbs)!
