About

VOLTAIRE IN CONCERT:

Dark cabaret singer Voltaire brings a light-hearted approach to gothic subject matter with tongue-in-cheek humor about zombies, grim reapers, and vampires. Armed with nothing more than his guitar, Voltaire captivates audiences at his live shows with his charming personality and natural gift for storytelling. He’s also a master of audience interaction, making ticket buyers laugh with his self-deprecating and dark sense of humor and encouraging them to sing along to his memorable, macabre melodies. Hot off the release of his tenth album Raised by Bats, Voltaire is sure to fright and delight audiences when he hits the stage.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Aurelio Voltaire Hernández was born in Havana, Cuba in 1967, but immigrated to New Jersey with his family as a child. He had begun listening to gothic music and performing with his first band by the time he was in junior high. As an adult he assembled a violinist, cellist, and percussionist to release his 1998 solo debut The Devil’s Bris. His humorous, dark cabaret style struck a chord with fans of gothic music and comedy, leading to popular releases like Almost Human (2000) and Boo Hoo (2002). In 2003 Voltaire wrote the song “BRAINS!” for an episode of the animated show The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy, introducing him to an entirely new audience. Based on the success of his performances, Voltaire decided to make his live debut in 2006 with the album  Live!. The hilarious and horrific troubadour continues to tour, write, and record his music, including his 2014 release Raised by Bats.

    Voltaire, a consummate entertainer

by Aizenald on 5/29/14Masquerade - Atlanta

Anyone familiar with Aurelio Voltaire knows that he is multi-talented, but it is ever so much more apparent during his live shows. He is entertaining, interactive, and incredibly gracious to his fans. The venue at the Masquerade was a bit warm, but it was intimate. A once-in-a-lifetime experience for me.

    Worth the 12-hr drive

by DeathByPendulum on 5/23/14Masquerade - Atlanta

Voltaire was amazing!! He was even more funny, dirty, and talented in person than I'd hoped. Sang several of his classics as well as some new songs. He invited us up onto the stage for the chorus of his last song, "When You're Evil" and came down to greet and socialize with fans after the concert. What an awesome evening.

    Amazing

    by caitf17 on 10/2/11Masquerade - Atlanta

Voltaire was, as always, a charming performer and both opening bands- this way to the egress and hellblinki- were outstanding and totally fit with the vibe. Great live show.
