THIEVERY CORPORATION IN CONCERT:

Lounge and electronica collective Thievery Corporation capture the sleek sounds of the international set with their chilled-out beats, worldly sonic palette, and lush synthscapes. Their mesmerizing and eclectic mix of bossa nova, acid jazz, trip hop, and a host of other genres had crate-diggers drooling with jealousy between sets at their 2013 shows, reminding fans just why they're one of downtempo's most beloved acts. With a highly anticipated new album due out in 2014, Thievery Corporation are set to blow minds once again on their upcoming North American tour dates.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Washington, DC's Rob Garza and Eric Hilton formed Thievery Corporation in 1995 as an outlet for their shared love of acid jazz, dub reggae, and Brazilian musical traditions. Using Hilton's Eighteenth Street Lounge as a base of operations, their early mixing sessions were a huge success, resulting in their 1997 debut album Sounds from the Thievery Hi-Fi. While the album was a minor success, it was their second record, The Mirror Conspiracy, that really put them on the map, led by the sweltering single "Lebanese Blond." Since then, they have continued to pioneer new directions in downtempo, headlining some of the world's biggest festivals and establishing themselves as legends of the genre.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"So talented and entertaining. Definitely worth seeing them live again soon."

"Absolutely rocked the place. Collaboration of old tunes with new and energetic stuff made it so special and enjoyable. The place was jamming! Loved it!"

"This is the third time I've seen Thievery Corporation and I must say they are one of the BEST live acts I have ever had the pleasure of experiencing. If you have not seen them live you are doing yourself a horrible disservice."

    Insane volume

    by Cornell1984 on 5/15/24Bogart's - Cincinnati

Bottom line: I like the band’s vocals and unusual instrumentals. They are undoubtedly talented That talent is lost when you amplify your music from 103 db to 113db, and accompanying bass that is simply rediculious. All nuance to the music is lost and it becomes quite simply … noise. Insanely loud noise. Hearing loss begins at 95db ( some say 90db). WHY are they amplifying music to this level?! Worse yet, the lead up act was playing at 113db to 121db. The loudest noise I have ever been subjected to. At the very least bring hearing protection to this concert. After the second song I walked out. Come ON, you have to do better.

by TG on 5/13/24The Bluestone - Columbus

Thievery Corporation is fun, emotional, expressive, and everything in between… they’re wonderful. This was our 3rd time seeing them. Such a wonderful and unique show, every time. So many different sounds, singers, and moods. We’ll continue to go to their shows every chance we get. Thievery Corporation forever!

    Thievery Corporation = Incredible Show!

by Ryan S on 5/13/24The Bluestone - Columbus

We had been waiting a long time to see these guys. Holy cow, they delivered a truly dynamic show. So much talent was on the stage all night....4 featured vocalists that were amazing, band players were so tight and that drummer just killed it through multiple genres of music. The Blue Stone was the perfect venue for this show. Perfect night with good friends we happend to run into!

    Thievery Corp is always amazing!

by A Thief on 5/13/24The Bluestone - Columbus

My 5 stars are for Thievery Corp. But the Bluestone sound is always so terrible (one star, for the venue being conveniently located downtown). It is disappointing seeing that your favorite band will roll thru Columbus, only to be stuck playing at the Bluestone :( Sorry artists! I have seen Thievery Corp outdoors at Bayfront Park amphitheater (with Massive Attack!), indoors at The Atlantis in DC (last year with 450 true fans) and indoors at The Newport here in Columbus. By far, the Bluestone is the worst venue for an artist to play. But we go—because we want to support the artists. My recco for bands coming to town—find a better venue (The Newport), or play smaller, more intimate shows (Natalie's), or play outside (Kemba) when in Columbus.

    Sound engineering by Wish

by It takes a thief on 5/13/24The Bluestone - Columbus

Could not hear the vocals, overall sound was low as well. This was not the case when they played Newport last time around.

    Thievery at Bogarts

by IndyBAM on 5/13/24Bogart's - Cincinnati

Garza and company were superb musically as always and covered a broad range from their catalog. We missed Lou Lou singing and the crazy constantly bouncing bass player but the new players were great.

    FANtastic!

by BKnown27 on 5/11/24House of Blues Cleveland - Cleveland

My first time at the house of blues in cleveland. I was very impressed with the venue. Staff was great. Prices were veey reasonable for the night. Clean. Not as big as i had anticipated but even as the night filled up there was still plenty of room to walk around or join tge crowd. As for Thievery Great turn out and support for the band. Likewise it was my first time seeing them live. Been a fan for 13 years now. It all came together for me. The show was amazing they worked very hard it eas alot of fun. What an expirience! I love these performers. True talent. The encore was well deserved and damn near brought a tear to my eye with the sweetest rendition of "Sweet Tides"a song that introduced me to the band many years ago. Couldnt be happier. Will definetly be going again.
