About

THIEVERY CORPORATION IN CONCERT:

Lounge and electronica collective Thievery Corporation capture the sleek sounds of the international set with their chilled-out beats, worldly sonic palette, and lush synthscapes. Their mesmerizing and eclectic mix of bossa nova, acid jazz, trip hop, and a host of other genres had crate-diggers drooling with jealousy between sets at their 2013 shows, reminding fans just why they're one of downtempo's most beloved acts. With a highly anticipated new album due out in 2014, Thievery Corporation are set to blow minds once again on their upcoming North American tour dates.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Washington, DC's Rob Garza and Eric Hilton formed Thievery Corporation in 1995 as an outlet for their shared love of acid jazz, dub reggae, and Brazilian musical traditions. Using Hilton's Eighteenth Street Lounge as a base of operations, their early mixing sessions were a huge success, resulting in their 1997 debut album Sounds from the Thievery Hi-Fi. While the album was a minor success, it was their second record, The Mirror Conspiracy, that really put them on the map, led by the sweltering single "Lebanese Blond." Since then, they have continued to pioneer new directions in downtempo, headlining some of the world's biggest festivals and establishing themselves as legends of the genre.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"So talented and entertaining. Definitely worth seeing them live again soon."

"Absolutely rocked the place. Collaboration of old tunes with new and energetic stuff made it so special and enjoyable. The place was jamming! Loved it!"

"This is the third time I've seen Thievery Corporation and I must say they are one of the BEST live acts I have ever had the pleasure of experiencing. If you have not seen them live you are doing yourself a horrible disservice."

    Room for Improvement

by JSB on 3/17/24The Queen - Wilmington

Enjoyed the music, performance and venue. I was a little put off that the 8pm show started at 9:20….I thought those days were in the past. The guy mixing tunes that was (I guess) the opening act was likable but not for that long. When Thievery Corp started it was so loud it actually hurt my ears. Should’ve brought ear plugs I guess? But also the sound was not clear enough that the words were audible- very muffled. All of that said, I loved the tunes amd made the best of it. Enjoyable crowd.

My first time at Brooklyn Bowl, it is a fantastic venue, the layout is great. Thievery Corporation never disappoints, they sounded great.

Fun evening, cool venue, great show. Gotta wonder about doing Lebanese Blonde as the first song, tho.

    Great performance, bad venue

by Janis on 3/14/24Brooklyn Bowl Philadelphia - Philadelphia

Thievery Corporation always puts on an amazing show & this show was no exception. 5 stars for them for sure! However; whoever decided to have them at a venue this small was smoking crack. Way too many people for this space. Couldn't get through the crowd to get a drink or get to the restrooms. The set-up at Brooklyn Bowl isn't great with one side close-in for the bowling alleys. Should've been at Union Transfer or the Fillmore. These venue set-ups are more conducive to a crowd this size. Just because the venue can hold a certain # of people legally, doesn't mean it should.

    Thievery Corp

by MM on 3/11/24Big Night Live - Boston

I’ve seen Thievery many times at the House of Blues. This venue was poor on many levels the oppressive Columbus mana that block the stage, sound, light, big bar next to a stage. I may have as well been in a casino. Cheap venue.

One of the best live acts

by Breener on 3/9/24Blue Ocean Music Hall - Salisbury

Notes from last evening's show. City of the Sun opened the show. They had no singer. They had no roadie. They had no spare guitar. But boy, did they deliver. I describe their style as sonic latino ambient instrumental rock. Oh, and they can be jazzy or funky as well. I believe they were/are a trio but now have added a second guitarist who brings the band into a new dimension. They were simply amazing live. It's huge to be able to grab and keep the attention of 700 people, never mind breaking a string on the first song, your songs don't have lyrics or a singer, and you don't have a backup guitar or roadie. The did not miss a beat. Extensive use of effects colored their sound in just the right way. They even got back to their roots with a few older tunes jamming on acoustic guitars and cajon drum. Oh yeah, the headliner, Thievery Corporation never disappoints. Heavy electronic beats, thumping bass, snappy-grooving drums, ultimate percussion by Frank Orrall (Poi Dog Pondering), occasional sitar, innovative guitar, and a handful of intense vocalists who take turns commanding the stage and the audience. I've seen them twice and I believe they are one of the best live acts out there - trust me on this.

    Venue problems?

by Kat on 3/6/24MTELUS - Montreal

Bad sound, couldn’t hear the vocalists, it’s a shame, as I wanted to enjoy the music. Is this a recurring problem in this venue?

    Amazing

by MontrealRick on 3/5/24MTELUS - Montreal

The live performance by Thievery Corporation surpassed my expectations. I danced for the duration of the entire show. The 5 singers were in fine form as were the excellent musicians. I will definitely see them in concert again, if/when they come back to Montreal Thank you Rob Garza and Co.

Loved the band, the sound was too quite

by Marina on 3/5/24MTELUS - Montreal

I loved the band and have seen them live before too. I was disappointed from the sound as it didn’t feel like a concert. I was on first floor not under the balcony but I could hear people talk in a normal voice around me. Even if no one was talking the sound was too quite and not something a person paying a ticket to enjoy a live concert, is happy with.

    Great show

by Petelebon on 3/5/24MTELUS - Montreal

I like very much this band to listen in living room at home. I bought tickets to their show and I had no great expectations. The show was a revelation: it exceeded all my expectations, great band to see live. One of the best shows I’ve seen yet.

Great sound, not much to see.

    by Steve C on 3/2/24History - Toronto

We loved the music and some aspects of the venue. There were plenty of bars around to get a drink which was handy. The height of the stage made it extremely difficult to see the band above the heads of everyone in front of us.

    Off the hook!

    by Old punk on 9/2/23

They rocked the 930 club to its feet. The singers were amazing. The sound system at the club is spectacular and the staff were so helpful.

    Amazing concert

    by DavidB on 8/21/23

Thievery Corporation was amazing. We also appreciated the convenient payment method of Rooam. However, the sound for the warm up band was awful. Not sure if that was intended or not but we were glad when they left the stage.

Overall they had great vibes just like their recordings. There was one song that was a bit off but overall they made the atmosphere welcoming and unique.
