San Antonio Spurs History
The story of the San Antonio Spurs began in the summer of 1973, when a group of local investors leased the Dallas Chaparrals and brought professional basketball to San Antonio. Midway through that first season, the group purchased the team outright, planting the roots of what would become one of the NBA’s most respected franchises.
The Spurs spent their first three seasons in the ABA before joining the NBA in 1976, alongside the Nets, Nuggets, and Pacers. Since entering the league, San Antonio has become a model of sustained success, boasting the second-highest winning percentage (.595) among all NBA teams. Over the decades, the Spurs have captured five NBA championships and 22 division titles.
The team has honored its legends by retiring 10 jersey numbers, including Hall of Famers George "Iceman" Gervin, David Robinson, Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili, and Tony Parker—all of whom helped define generations of Spurs basketball.
The 2025–26 season marks a significant moment in Spurs history. After 29 seasons as head coach, Hall of Famer Gregg Popovich has transitioned into the role of President of Basketball Operations. Stepping into the head coaching role is Mitch Johnson, officially named the 19th head coach in franchise history after serving as acting head coach for the majority of last season.
On the court the Silver and Black are led by NBA All-Stars Victor Wembanyama and De’Aaron Fox. They are joined by Spurs veterans Keldon Johnson, Devin Vassell and Jeremy Sochan while Stephon Castle, the NBA’s 2025 Rookie of the Year, returns for his second season. This summer the Spurs added veteran leadership with the additions of Luke Kornet and Kelly Olynyk. The 2025 NBA Draft brought more young talent to San Antonio, including No. 2 overall pick Dylan Harper and No. 14 pick Carter Bryant.

I had an amazing experience for my first game ever, crowd interaction and great views from all sides of the court! Friendly and helpful staff!!!
When my sister comes to visit from NY (we are both in our upper 70's), we always go to see the Spurs play in Austin. We love the seats in the Dell section--close to food & bathroom.
First time watching a Spurs game! Awesome stadium and staff! Had a great time in San Antonio!
Getting in was very slow. We tried to get in one line and we were told that if we had a bag we had to get in another line that was very long. They only had one line for people with bags and it was slow because they had a TSA machine for the bags to go through. That was crazy because we all had clear bags that they could see through. Everyone was complaining and it took longer for us to get to our seats and we missed tip off. Not organized at all!
Alot of fun having a professional basketball game to watch in Austin.
Loved seeing the Spurs play in Austin. Great venue. Great seats. Jumbotron screen was crystal clear. Excellent sound. It was a great time
One of the best games of the season so far! It was such an experience to see Wemby and Giannis in person and the Spurs put on a great performance to get the win. Energy in the center was wonderful and it was a great way to celebrate my birthday. Looking forward to attending more games in the future!
Everything was lovely. The floors were just too sticky to place my feet on for the entire game.
We had a great time at the game. Didn’t experience any issues. Getting into the venue was quick & stress free. Always a great time cheering on the spurs!!
This my first time seeing the Spurs in person. It was a great experience. I would definitely go to another game. 2 children under the age of 6 enjoyed the game. They quickly caught on to the cheers and would cheer along with the crowd. The fans around us were nice even when the 3 year old began crying because he wanted to go play basketball on the court. It was great to see Victor and the rest of the team get the win.
Got 2 lower level seats from a friend for Christmas and was fabulous
It’s my first NBA game! The center is awesome :) I really enjoy it !
Ticketmaster is so expensive to buy tickets. Will not do again.
I enjoyed the game against the Warriors. It was exciting the second half especially. The food was good, but those seats are tight. Wish there was more wiggle room.
Great game, but. . . no ushers in the upper deck directing patrons to their seats, constantly blocking our view of the game. Very frustrating.
Excellent seats. Family bathroom at the top of my section. My wife and daughter had an amazing time, myself included. Great game
Spurs game was and the entertainment was good. Missing more Rock music like the good days and Silver Spurs Dancers.
My date had a ball! His first Spurs game and we got free parking due to him being a disabled veteran.
If you’re 6’ 1” or over like me, spend your money on the 100 section seats so you won’t be so cramped.
Great environment, festive and friendly. First game with brother and nephew
