Phoenix Mercury History

The Phoenix Mercury are a professional basketball team in the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA). Founded in 1997, the Mercury are one of the league’s original eight franchises. The team reached their first Finals in 1998 and have made six total appearances, winning in 2007, 2009 and 2014. The Mercury’s legacy is marked by two major No. 1 picks: Diana Taurasi in 2004 and Brittney Griner in 2013. As members of the Mercury, Taurasi won the regular season MVP in 2009 and set multiple WNBA records, including most career points, most three-pointers and most field goals made, while Griner earned two Defensive Player of the Year Awards and broke several block records. Ahead of the 2025 season, Taurasi announced her retirement and the Mercury acquired five-time All-Star Alyssa Thomas, who continues to hold the WNBA record for career triple-doubles.

Hello Im a disabled USAF veteran, who loves to attend sporting events like this. Family friendly, fun and I get to meet new friends. The whole experience is easy to navigate. The workers, food cashiers and attendants are friendly. The atmosphere is electric and exciting. You walk away with lots to talk about. Sometimes we get free souvenirs from the staff which is always a plus. Im a big fan of Mercury Team. I look forward to more visits next season.

  • Great except disruptive view.

I paid for the most expensive tickets vs the fever only to have media heads in the way for the first half. Disappointing to pay full price for heads in the way. There should be a warning about that.

  • Uncomfortable seats

The cup holders built on the arm rests cannot be moved and they make for an uncomfortable seat. It's a tight squeeze for a big boy.

  • Incredible Athletes

by New WNBA FAN for Life on 10/11/25Mortgage Matchup Center (formerly PHX Arena) - PhoenixRating: 5 out of 5

2025 WNBA Finals Game 3 was my first WNBA game ever and WoW what a Fantastic experience! The Mercury played with such heart. Copper specially turned it up to another gear at the end out of pride and that is a beautiful thing to witness in a championship game. The Vegas Aces are a phenomenal team, a lethal effective machine. Just a joy to watch the talents, heart and hard work of these amazing athletes. I will definitely be buying Phx Mercury 2026 Season Tix because I want my 8yo niece to have exposure to professional, female athlete role models. Let's make sure these incredible athletes get paid!

This year has been incredible attending five Phoenix Mercury games! My first year truly being a fan. The energy at the stadium is always unmatched, and seeing stars like Alyssa Thomas, Satou Sabally, and Kahleah Copper's play live made every moment unforgettable. I’m officially hooked and can’t wait for next season!

  • Great Experience!

by Albert on 10/2/25PHX Arena (formerly Footprint Center) - PhoenixRating: 5 out of 5

The atmosphere at Mercury home games is great. Everyone is happy and excited. It was quick and easy to get through security, even with a bag. The arena is easy to navigate, and there's plenty of concession options. All in all, I really enjoyed my time at this game.

We haven’t had this much fun in years! The announcer, the entertainers, everything was fun and light hearted! We enjoyed ourselves the first time, we bought tickets for the next game while we were still in the building!
