PETER HOOK AND THE LIGHT IN CONCERT:

Joy Division and New Order bassist Peter Hook carries on the legacy of those legendary bands in 2014 with the Light, thrilling fans with end-to-end performances of seminal albums from their collective discography. Whether tearing through New Order's Power, Corruption, and Lies or ruminating on Joy Division's Unknown Pleasures,  Hook and the Light are never short on energy, sating fans with epic three hour sets of classics like "Age of Consent" and "Love Will Tear Us Apart." The band impressed even the staunchest New Order loyalists on tour in 2013, building excitement for another round of North American dates in 2014.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Born in Manchester, England, Peter Hook formed Joy Division with Bernard Sumner in the late '70s after the two were inspired by the anyone-can-do-it ethos of a Sex Pistols concert they attended. After several epochal post-punk releases, frontman Ian Singer committed suicide, leaving the rest of the band to press on as New Order. With former guitarist/keyboardist Sumner assuming vocal duties under the new moniker, New Order made their album debut in 1981 with Movement, breaking from the gravity of their previous work with buoyant tracks like "Dreams Never End." 1983 follow-up Power, Corruption & Lies really broke the mold, exploring a fusion of rock and early techno that brought them international fame and influenced much of the decade's ensuing music. In 2010, Hook put together the Light, continuing to thrill fans with end-to-end performances of classic albums from the Joy Division/New Order discography.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

" Great night out for Joy Division and New Order fans -- Peter Hook is having a lot of fun and so is the crowd."

"Peter Hook is the man!! He still has not slowed down at his age, three hour show and it was amazing!"

"... I knew that they would be playing two of New Order's albums: Power, Corruption and Lies and Movement, but the big surprise came when they opened up w/ a set from Joy Division, it was so awesome!"

    The day punk rock died

by Shannon Blak on 9/9/22Humphreys Concerts By the Bay - San Diego

Being a long time Joy division/new Order fan. The venue humphries by the Bay is beautiful venue in a gorgeous location. I understand that most of the fans of Joy division New order at this venue were in there 50s and 60s. And would like to see their favorite punk band in plastic little fold-out chairs. All crammed together while they eat their popcorn and drink their wine or beer. The venue only had porta potties for the event. 80% of the ushers at the event were 70 to 80 years old. They were over the top either out of it or to strict. There was really no room to move. The show started at 6:30 ended at 10:15 (there was four refreshment breaks) The first band El ten Eleven we're fabulous but only played about 25 minutes. Peter hook and the light sounded like they need a little more practice time to get on board with each other. Peter does good job at singing in the style of being of Ian Curtis. The light show was one of the most hilarious parts of the whole event. Old and cheesy flashing lights on the audience for you to respectfully applause. The very worst thing about the event was the security staff. Angry hostile making sure that no one had any fun unless you're in your seat drinking and eating. No room for dancing at this event. I'm sure that this venue is a great place to see yo-Yo ma but for one of the founding punk bands absolutely no.

    Sorry NO fans

by baggy1970 on 9/9/22Humphreys Concerts By the Bay - San Diego

Sorry New Order fans, Peter Hook and the Light is a much better live experience. He is engaged with the fans, sounds great, and plays for well over 2 hours. I’ve seen him probably half a dozen times over the years and he always puts on a great show. Also, he signs a lot of the merchandise for sale at the show. Take that Barney and Co. 🤓

    Great Night at the Harbor

by SickboySD on 9/9/22Humphreys Concerts By the Bay - San Diego

Beautiful warm night at the bay. Peter came on at 730 and played for almost 3 hours. Played all his originalsm, a trickle of New Order and several great Joy Division songs. Definitely a night to remember.

    Peter Hook was awesome

by The mighty chooch on 9/7/22House of Blues Dallas - Dallas

The show was great and Peter Hook and the light played all the classic joy division songs. The gig was approximately 2.5-3hrs long but had 3 strange intermissions. Excellent performance but venues sound and video could have been better

    A significant and emotional experience

by Ryan A. on 9/6/22House of Blues Dallas - Dallas

Peter Hook is one of my favorite musicians and he did not disappoint. The band was excellent and they did more a tremendous job of covering two of the best albums of all times in their entirety. Love it.

    Peter Hook is the Light

by Mossy on 9/6/22House of Blues Dallas - Dallas

First off, I attend several concerts a year. This was my second time seeing Peter Hook live. He blew me away the first time I watched his show in 2019. This show did not disappoint either. Amazing hearing Joy Division & New Order songs live. Hook has a lot of energy and passion when he plays and not just another day at the office. Not to mention a set time of almost 3 hours. I have seen several musicians who were once great and now obvious they were still on stage to pay the bills. Not the case here and appreciate the fact that he is keeping this great music still going. Joy Division & New Order pushed music to a totally new horizon and captured a magic very few bands can claim.

Peter Hook and the Light were great, but HOB is not

by Classic Fan on 9/6/22House of Blues Dallas - Dallas

The performance from Peter Hook and the Light was great, no complaints there at all! The sound was another matter. Watching the show from the center at the back of the room, the mids were muddy and the sound of the synth was often lost. For the music of New Order and Joy Division, that is inexcusable on the part of the fellow running sound. I saw Peter Hook even gesture at certain points to adjust things in the sound, but it never fully improved. We were stood at the back of the room because House Of Blues has the majority of the floor space blocked off with tables for hyped up prices, only a few of which were actually being used. That means your choice on floor level is to either press down up to the stage with too many other people (not ideal during our plague age), go to the side where it sounds off and you can’t see well, or do what we did - hand back center in the North 40. This waste of space combined with the outrageous drink prices, the deplorable parking situation, and disappointing sound make House Of Blues Dallas a dreaded venue for a concert-goer.

Peter Hook & The Light were awesome!!

by L. R. on 9/6/22House of Blues Dallas - Dallas

They were amazing from start to finish. My first time seeing them live and I was not disappointed. Nearly THREE hours on stage and they paid the most amazing tribute to Ian Curtis and Joy Division.

This is how I like concerts, skip opening bands and just go straight to the main performance.

    meh

by BER on 9/6/22House of Blues Dallas - Dallas

I saw Hooky just before Covid here in Dallas at the Granada and he was brilliant; he played music he seemed to enjoy, he improvised often, and the vibe he and his bank members created was electric. This time around at House of Blues provided an improved venue and a crowed primed for another amazing evening. Instead, Hooky came out, sat down, and seemed to force himself through 3-4 minutes of nonrhythmic sound checking which confused the audience and wasn't at all interesting. He then played maybe the least popular set of New Orders songs that he has played during the tour (according to set lists), and never really spoke to the crowd at all. Still, it was Hooky playing the bass which is always going to get you a few stars, but it seemed like a money smash-and-grab and on to Denver.

    “Thank You, Hooky!”

by Valorie Alvarez-Mendoza on 9/6/22House of Blues Houston - Houston

Wow. I’m just so in awe of the “time shared” with an original member of Joy Division. I cannot {fully} put into words how very inspiring Joy Division has been to me. My roots will always be “rock-and-roll,” and for what Joy Division has done for me…will forever be at the core.

    A Living Legend

by Spes Magna Mark on 9/6/22House of Blues Houston - Houston

Excellent show. It started on time with Peter Hook & The Light doing a set of New Order in place of who I'd read was the schedule opening act. After a short break, it was then about two hours of Joy Division, moving through nearly that band's entire catalog. One of the best shows I've seen. I'd go see them again tonight if I could. Also, the staff, et cetera, at the House of Blues was top notch. Good job!

    Hooky is a Legend!

by Greg on 9/5/22House of Blues Houston - Houston

I am a Joy Division fan boy, there is no denying that. I love the history of Joy Division and consider them one of the most interesting and fascinating bands in all of rock and roll history. They occupy a space in the punk and post-punk timeline when bands realized all you needed to perform was some skill and the nerve to get up on stage. They got better with each performance, and by the time they released Unknown Pleasures, they were a musical force. I have seen Peter Hook and the Light four times now, and it is truly a blessing that I have seen him perform the Joy Division catalog live so many times. With all of that out of the way, I will say this about the show I saw at the House of Blues on September 2. Hooky has really become a great front man in addition to a remarkable bass player. He brings that Joy Division intensity to each show. Hooky's voice isn't going to be confused with Bono or Robert Plant, but he sings baritone enough to sound like Ian Curtis. The rest of his band is talented and does a very good job. I did notice that the guitar player seemed to be having trouble with the acoustics the entire night, and that was a bit annoying. It didn't take away from the overall experience, but I have to wonder why a concert hall like HOB was giving him trouble? A person near me said The Fixx had similar problems earlier in the week, so I would ask HOB to look into that. Beyond that issue, I was very happy with the show and enjoyed the New Order opening set as much as I enjoyed the JD songs. It was a special night for my son and me.

    Must see

by Benzo on 9/1/22The Van Buren - Phoenix

I thoroughly enjoyed hearing all of my favorite joy division songs played live. The band was tight, drummer hit every beat and Peter Hook’s vocals have stood the test of time. I would recommend this show to any Joy Division fan.
