New York Rangers History
The Rangers, one of the "Original Six" NHL teams, were founded in 1926 by Tex Rickard. According to legend, the New York media nicknamed the team “Tex's Rangers,” a play on the famed law enforcers Texas Rangers.
The team has won four Stanley Cup Championships, the first of which came in only their second season (1928) and the most recent in 1994, beating Vancouver in Game 7 to break a 54-year drought and send Cup-starved fans into a frenzy.
The Rangers' 2017-2018 campaign broke a string of seven consecutive seasons in which the team reached the Playoffs — including the 2013-2014 campaign, which ended in a five-game series loss to the Los Angeles Kings in the Stanley Cup Final.
Among the Hall of Famers to don the Rangers sweater are Andy Bathgate, Eric Lindros, Phil Esposito, and Wayne Gretzky. Nine players have had their number retired by the team: Bathgate, Ed Giacomin, Rod Gilbert, Adam Graves, Harry Howell, Brian Leetch, Mark Messier, Jean Ratelle, and Mike Richter. Herb Brooks (1937-2003), who coached the Rangers from 1981-1985, also coached the U.S. Olympic hockey team to its "Miracle on Ice" victory over the Soviet Union and on to a gold medal in the 1980 Winter Olympic Games in Lake Placid, N.Y.

New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden
Located in the heart of Manhattan and named for President James Madison, Madison Square Garden opened in 1968 and is among the most-booked venues in the world. The arena, which sits atop Penn Station, is the oldest venue in the NHL. Considered “the world’s most famous arena,” MSG is also the home court for the New York Knicks.
The New York Rangers’ 2023–24 regular season kicks off in October at KeyBank Center, when the Rangers face off against the Buffalo Sabres. The Rangers will also participate in the 2024 Navy Federal Credit Union NHL Stadium Series — hosted at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey — against the New York Islanders on February 18. They play their final game of the regular season at home against Eastern Conference opponents the Ottawa Senators. Here’s a list of key games to keep an eye on:
Tickets for the 2023–24 regular season can be purchased on Ticketmaster, the Official Ticket Marketplace of the New York Rangers.
The Rangers have made 11 appearances in the Stanley Cup Final, and have won the Stanley Cup four times (in 1928, 1933, 1940 and 1994).

Really enjoyed the experience for attending the Rangers game at Madison Square Garden. They beat lFlorida, pleasant time.
Great time at a recent Rangers game at MSG...easy access, clearly marked path to the different seating sections, great gift shop, fantastic transit connections...sell-out crowd, awesome atmosphere...only downside was sitting up in the 200s sections, the Garden has constructed sort of a hanging seating platform which completely obscures the scoreboard and the other side of the arena, so that it felt you were sitting in a closet or something rather than being part of a huge, enthusiastic crowd. The Garden won't take that seating area down now, I'm sure, but just be aware, if you buy seats in the 200 sections--not behind the goals, maybe, but along the length of the rink...you won't see the scoreboard (though they have put up small TV monitors to compensate for this) or the rest of the arena.
I always enjoy watching the Rangers play at the Garden. The energy of the fans at the Garden is unmatched. I had great seats section 206.
Game was great atmosphere was amazing!!!!Msg is the best venue, the city is amazing definitely worth the visit.
I enjoyed Madison Square Garden, however, never compares to the great Boston Garden. The Bruins are clearly the best team in the league🏅⚡️💫 The Rangers are OK
Tickets had obstructed view and couldn't see 1/4 of the ice (including one goal net) from "premium"standing room only seats. Horrible experience for a premium price. Why did I spend $200/ticket for a regular season game and have to stand the whole time? Ushers wouldn't let anyone sit in empty seats and were very strict on enforcement. Everyone was miserable.
It was the greatest!! The game was Awesome. MSG venue was great for seating, eating and drinking!
No matter where you are sitting you will get the best experience ever. MSG will forever have my heart. I love this team way too much. Worth every penny!!
Loved the game, what an experience. Madison Square Garden is the best in the world and the New York Rangers were awesome. Loved the atmosphere, the team, the fans, everything. Would love to be able to go to every hockey game. Worth every cent!
Had an almost perfect experience at the garden. Seats were great and the game was excellent. Crew were awesome and made for a pleasant experience. The only negatives for me were that in the 400 section there weren’t any cup holders for our drinks. Also, the men’s room near section 415 isn’t big enough. The line was super long and there was only one stall and one urinal. Even with these few minor negatives, I will definitely be back in the future for another rangers game.
I had a slight problem getting my ticket to appear on my phone, but the Ticketmaster agent helped me. It worked perfectly at MSG. The MSG staff members were all friendly and helpful. The Rangers won the game, and an extra highlight was that I met John Brancy, the national anthem singer!
What a great night at MSG to watch New York Rangers! Easy to buy tickets for our visit to New York, seats were fantastic, atmosphere was amazing Great ice hockey game!
Great and legendary venue. Ticket prices high (and beer for $17!) but hey that's New York!
MSG certainly knows how to put on a show. We attended the Rangers game against the Panthers and the atmosphere was electric in building. They game was amazing to watch between two top teams in the league, the music, the light show, the celebrities, and the contests they run during the game make it a very interactive fun experience for everyone and the family. We loved the whole experience and look forward to attend future games at MSG.
Rangers game experience will always be mid as long as they insist on bombarding our eardrums with ridiculously loud "music"during every break in the action. It's annoying and totally unnecessary. The noise they make trying to encourage the crowd to "make some noise"is so loud you can't even hear the crowd, so what even is the point? Has anyone ever complained because the music at the hockey game they attended wasn't loud enough? Why does every hockey venue do this?
I'm from Finland and it has been a long time dream of my to see NHL live. What better way to do it than in MSG. I did sit next to awesome Rangers fans (we had nice moments and talks) and I saw fellow country men both in a rink and stand. Night to remember...
We had a great time at the Rangers game the other night! The seats were better than I thought they’d be and the service was also great.
Best time I every had at any sporting event Went with close friends all had a great time
Great game. A sold out crowd. Concession area had excellent service.
Went to the Ranger game versus Dallas. Took my son and we had a blast, mainly due to Ranger win but we did walk around the 200 level to view memorabilia. Great time had.
