New York Rangers History
The Rangers, one of the Original Six NHL teams, were founded in 1926 by Tex Rickard. According to legend, the New York media nicknamed the team “Tex's Rangers,” a play on the famed law enforcers Texas Rangers.
The team has won four Stanley Cup Championships, the first of which came in only their second season (1928) and the most recent in 1994, beating Vancouver in Game 7 to break a 54-year drought and send Cup-starved fans into a frenzy. The Rangers have also taken home four Presidents’ Trophies and won eight divisional championships—most recently winning both for the 2023-2024 season.
The Rangers' 2017-2018 campaign broke a string of seven consecutive seasons in which the team reached the Playoffs—including the 2013-2014 campaign, which ended in a five-game series loss to the Los Angeles Kings in the Stanley Cup Final.
Among the Hall of Famers to don the Rangers sweater are Andy Bathgate, Eric Lindros, Phil Esposito, and Wayne Gretzky. Twelve players have had their number retired by the team: Bathgate, Ed Giacomin, Rod Gilbert, Adam Graves, Harry Howell, Brian Leetch, Mark Messier, Jean Ratelle, Mike Richter, Vic Hadfield, Henrik Lundqvist and Wayne Gretzky. Herb Brooks (1937-2003), who coached the Rangers from 1981-1985, also coached the U.S. Olympic hockey team to its "Miracle on Ice" victory over the Soviet Union and on to a gold medal in the 1980 Winter Olympic Games in Lake Placid, N.Y.

Easy access to seating, clean facilities, and helpful employees. Such a wonderful experience. Can’t wait to return. Go Rangers!!!!
Amazing atmosphere, lighting, noise, and fans. Always on the edge of your seat, my first time experience was amazing, definitely going to another this season.
Great MSG experience ! Not going into details but a wonderful Rangers/Garden experience. A little tip: go for obstructed view seats. The only thing obstructed is the scoreboard which you don’t need to see. Great view of the ice surface ! Met a new friend, just wish she was a little prettier. Oh well, you can’t have everything. Will be returning to the Garden soon.
The obstructed view is ridiculous. You have to bend forward to see the top half of the ice and the pitch of the seats in front of you have those people blocking the goal on your side of the ice. We moved up to the bridge where there was an empty row halfway through the game because we were about to leave. Would never recommend anybody buying these tickets
From entering the stadium to finding my seat I was impressed with the venue, staff, and concessions. New York has some of the friendliest people in the world and Madison Square Garden was no exception.
Visiting from Australia we have only seen a few ice hockey games before and do not really understand the rules, but our evening at the Rangers vs the Bruins was excellent because of the energy and entertainment offered to go along with the Hockey. Our seats were pretty awesome but not where I thought I had purchased so be careful of that. The in-seat food and beverage host was a lovely surprise as well. He was attentive and provided excellent service which meant we did not miss any of the game of the fun entertainment. I am not sure if our ticket price was increased because I bought them in Australia but going to the hockey is very expensive just to get in the door - no matter if you keep it in US $ or even scarier convert it to AUD … Expect the same for food and beverage at the game…. On arrival we bought 3 mixed drinks in the Rangers Keep Cups … the cost US $136- ( I am not talking cocktails here just basic mixed drinks bourbon and dry etc) Cost aside, the fun factor was great. The atmosphere was electric and there was a lot of happiness and laughter as well as ice hockey ! A great night out - especially with a New York Rangers win.

Nice goal by Jimmy Vesey, then things fell off a cliff. Sean Avery is spot on in his analysis on spittin chiclets.
We sat behind the goal and could not see the full game or the center Jumbotron. If we would have known it was a cutoff view, then we would have tried different seats.
I like the atmosphere, the game, the people but I was disappointed about the seats (sector 4) because the view was terrible. With some difficulties I could follow the game but didn’t couldn’t see the scoreboard or the rest of the fans. I thought we had good seats…
Wanted to watch a NHL game The atmosphere was great even though the rangers did not win the experience was great
Great fun experience every time. Make tickets more affordable!
Drury has to shake it up. Now ! This team is unwatchable now. The D is awful. Igor SHOULD demand a trade ! A week after he signed. A tired veteran team after the long run last year.
Entertaining, fun filled night! Great for all the family, felt safe being there with my kids. Staff were super helpful and friendly. Will be returning!!
Always have a great time watching the NY Rangers. MSG is amazing, the people are nice, polite and always willing to help. Cant wait till the next game 😎
What a fun game. Great way to end it with an awesome goal.
We thoroughly enjoyed our evening watching ice hockey at Madison Square Gardens which was on our to do list during our New York visit. The venue was fab, good seats and the atmosphere was fantastic. Although Rangers didn’t win we all had a great night.
Fabulous staff, wonderfully coordinated. Stellar views!
The single worst Hockey Game I ever went to!!!! The Rangers put up absolutely NO EFFORT! I've been to several hundred games over the years and this one was truly a real stinker. With ticket prices soaring through the stratosphere, I doubt I'll be going to many more if this product repeats itself.
Figuring out the ticket price for a new venue could be made easier but the process after that is nice and easy. The info on the app to get there and get in was very good and was v smooth once there Had a fab time at the match being a neutral ice hockey fan 😀🏒🥅
