About

English rockers Keane play a unique brand of alternative rock that highlights the piano instead of the more traditionally favored guitar. The band is made up of lead singer Tom Chaplin, drummer Richard Hughes, bassist Jesse Quin and pianist Tim Rice-Oxley. Anyone who has been to a Keane concert tends to talk about the infectious excitement coming from the stage, with a fun light show in the background to add to the atmosphere. In particular, during the tour to promote their Strangeland album, even the ballads they performed were described by ticket holders as rousing and energetic.

The band is named after a family friend who at one time cared for and inspired some of the band members, most of whom met in England at a young age. Though Keane has gone through some changes since the beginning, including the departure of guitarist and founder Dominic Scott, the band managed to find success after releasing its first album, Hopes and Fears, in 2004. Some of the album's most popular songs included "Somewhere Only We Know," "Bend and Break" and "Everybody's Changing." In 2006, Under the Iron Sea was released, bringing with it the hit songs "Is It Any Wonder?" and "Atlantic." That album was followed by Perfect Symmetry in 2008, which brought back the use of the guitar and also increased the band's reliance on synthesizers.

Strangeland was released in 2010, becoming Keane's fifth album in a row to garner the No. 1 spot on the UK Albums Chart. After The Best of Keane album was released in 2013, the members of the band announced that they would be taking a break to relax after several busy years of making music.

Great band in a great venue

by Urv on 3/13/20Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

Every time I see keane I’m reminded what an awesome live show they are. How does Tom keep his voice in such great shape? How did they write so many great songs? How do they deal with jet lag and still have that kind of energy? But yes that was amazing

Awesome show! Great time with a great band.

    by Keane-tastic on 3/12/20Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

First time at this venue. Paid extra for Telegraph Room which was cool. Separate review on that part. Fox is beautiful and perfect for music. Keane came on after opening act and jumped right into it. Lighting was too dim at first and got better after a few songs. Great time in an intimate setting.

    Fourth at The Fox

by Eric on 3/12/20Fox Theater - Oakland - Oakland

Our quartet of family members have seen Keane at The Fox-Oakland the 4 times they’ve appeared there. Nothing truly exceptional about this concert, but it is note-worthy for being the first time since 2012 Keane has played locally. Keane played a smattering of hits from their best albums (HandF, UtIS, and Strangeland), but included too many less-sparkling songs from their new album, CandE. Standout songs included Disconnected, Bedshaped, and Crystal Ball, but their best number was the Radiohead-inspired bridge section of A Bad Dream. One would have to be obtuse not to see a serious rift infecting the band over the past few years, with Tom and Tim seemingly at odds. Poor Tim couldn’t speak for himself as Tom, when not hitting the great high notes, muzzled his mic and controlled the flow of information. It will be interesting to see where the band is in a year or 5.

    by MusicLover211 on 6/17/13Pantages - Hollywood

Keane performed with so much energy and excitement, it was unbelievable! My boyfriend and I really enjoyed the show, and agreed that they sound even better live than they do in the studio. Tom is absolutely adorable! I would love to see them live again and again!!!

Great Concert - what a voice!

by SpaniardinNY on 2/8/13Radio City Music Hall - New York

This was my first Keane concert ever despite being a fan of the band since their very first album Sound was good, performance clean, minimalist, and therefore very much into the songs and the amazing voice of Chaplin. Good balance as well of old and new songs, being their last album “Strangeland” one of the best, it was a true pleasure

    Keane Rocks Radio City

by chefm83 on 2/5/13Radio City Music Hall - New York

Keane put on a great show Thursday Night @ Radio City. The band sounded great but Rice-Oxley and Chaplin were incredible. It amazes me that this band isn't more popular in the USA. I think they are so much better than Coldplay. This is the Third time I've seen them in NYC and they just keep getting better. Looking forward to teir next visit to the Big Apple

    A truly amazing night!!

by Stephshea on 2/4/13Radio City Music Hall - New York

I have been a fan of Keane for many years, but had never seen then live before last year at the Beacon Theater... what a treat! When I saw they would be performing again at the end of their Strangeland tour, I KNEW I had to get tickets. This band is just as good, if not better, when performing live. Tom's voice is always on key and crystal key, and doesn't fatigue after the 2+ hour performance... how does he do it?! Their setlist was a perfect mix of old and new songs plus the popular favorites (Somewhere Only We Know) The energy was electric... I loved every minute of it... and dance and sang my heart out with them. Some people preferred to just cross their arms and sway... or sit down... I don't understand that! What a riveting show... I hope they come back soon! I plan to see them every chance I get! Encore!
