About

English rockers Keane play a unique brand of alternative rock that highlights the piano instead of the more traditionally favored guitar. The band is made up of lead singer Tom Chaplin, drummer Richard Hughes, bassist Jesse Quin and pianist Tim Rice-Oxley. Anyone who has been to a Keane concert tends to talk about the infectious excitement coming from the stage, with a fun light show in the background to add to the atmosphere. In particular, during the tour to promote their Strangeland album, even the ballads they performed were described by ticket holders as rousing and energetic.

The band is named after a family friend who at one time cared for and inspired some of the band members, most of whom met in England at a young age. Though Keane has gone through some changes since the beginning, including the departure of guitarist and founder Dominic Scott, the band managed to find success after releasing its first album, Hopes and Fears, in 2004. Some of the album's most popular songs included "Somewhere Only We Know," "Bend and Break" and "Everybody's Changing." In 2006, Under the Iron Sea was released, bringing with it the hit songs "Is It Any Wonder?" and "Atlantic." That album was followed by Perfect Symmetry in 2008, which brought back the use of the guitar and also increased the band's reliance on synthesizers.

Strangeland was released in 2010, becoming Keane's fifth album in a row to garner the No. 1 spot on the UK Albums Chart. After The Best of Keane album was released in 2013, the members of the band announced that they would be taking a break to relax after several busy years of making music.

    Amazing show, great venue

    by Aprilgirl82 on 2/1/13State Theatre - Portland

I was so happy to hear that Keane was coming to Maine, and they did not disappoint! The tickets were reasonably priced, the venue was the perfect size, comfortable, and beautiful. Keane played a mix of past hits and songs from their most recent album, so I was able to sing along to all my favorites and also enjoy a few new songs I had not heard yet. Tom's voice is amazing, he sounded perfect, and the whole band gave off a great energy. It was one of the best shows I have seen in a long time. I hope they come back to Maine again in the future.

    As wonderful as always!

    by etnaL7 on 2/1/13State Theatre - Portland

Keane is a band that consistently puts out great music, and put on INCREDIBLE shows. I've been to a number of other Keane concerts in Boston, and it is always a great time. It is pretty rare to find a band that both have great studio albums and perform really well live, but Keane hits the mark every time. And the audience can tell - they are having a great time on stage, and with each other.

A band with passion for what they do.

    by Chelseafan8 on 2/1/13State Theatre - Portland

I saw Keane at The House of Blues in Boston, where they kicked off their US tour and now here in Portland, Maine, almost the last show. Their undying passion for the sets never changed and only confirmed to me that this is the best band to come along in a long, long while. Thanks for giving me hope again, and thanks also to my daughter who suggested I give them a try in the first place.

    Keane was incredible....again

by McDave on 2/1/13State Theatre - Portland

This band just knows how to put on a stellar show. This is second time in 9 months seeing them and deliver another great performance. State Theater and similar sized venues are perfect to see this band. The music and the vocals are so tight you almost forget it's live. Go see them!

Awesome show! The opener was great and Keane was as good as always. I heard that they were sick but it really did not show. I saw them last June in Boston and this was just as great. It was the perfect way to introduce my SO to my favorite band.

Bad lighting felt very amateur. Energy of songs left me flat and bored by end of concert. How many slow sappy songs can you play in a row? Two are plenty. The keyboard was way too loud, failing to blend with the group. I had great expectations for the show and came away disappointed.

    Keane Killed!

by Mikemaine on 2/1/13State Theatre - Portland

Keane will eventually reach superstar status. Lead singer has greatest range and voice I have seen in live performance.

Best concert I've seen in years!

by MagsDQ on 1/31/13Newport Music Hall - Columbus

Keane doesn't play in the U.S.. very often, in fact the last time they played in Ohio was eight years ago in Cleveland, this is a very sad thing because they are awesome live. The venue left a little bit to be desired because of the fact there are no seats in the place but who would be able to sit anyway. Here's hoping that Keane will not wait another eight years to come back.

Keane in a close up riot venue

by Dave70 on 1/30/13Newport Music Hall - Columbus

Newport music hall was a great place to see a band like keane. There were several "soaring" moments that made the place elevate to an almost riotous level. I swear, I could see Thoms face question the crowds intensity and you could tell he was genuinely worried about the full capacity crowd tearing the place down with excitement. The place was packed and the 1 hour wait in freezing weather was well worth the wait.

Keane - Best Live Performance I've Seen Yet

by chetti80 on 1/30/13Newport Music Hall - Columbus

Keane's performance at the Newport in Columbus was the best live performance I've seen. Usually live performances are average sounding events, but great showmanship. Keane focused on the music more than flashy attention distractors, and the music was excellent. Most bands can't perform nearly as good as they do in the studio, but Keane seems to be even better. Tom Chaplin's vocals are amazing, and Tim on the keyboard was great. I would pay 10 times what I paid to see them again. Great band, great music...

    Keane left me mesmorized!

by Dossmb on 1/29/13Ryman Auditorium - Nashville

I am 22 and I have been to quite a few concerts. I was excited to see them perform because I have been such a die-hard fan for so long. If you think they are incredible on album, they will blow you away live. Simply flawless. They played my heart strings to a point where I was in tears! Sounds just like an album but ten times better. You can literally feel it flow through you. The only way to describe it is perfection! I can't wait to see them again!

    Awesome!!

by NexusFlight on 1/29/13Newport Music Hall - Columbus

It was interesting being able to see a band such as this in such a small venue. They are huge in Europe and are just starting to take off in the US. It was refreshing to hear such clean, intelligent music. Definately one of the best rock bands in the world! If you get the chance treat yourself because it will not be long before you'll have to go to an arena or statium to see these them!

    Keane at Newport/Columbus AMAZING

by planninggirl71 on 1/28/13Newport Music Hall - Columbus

Keane put on a solid and excellent performance at Newport in Columbus, Ohio. I was hesitant about attending at the Newport as I hadn't been there since my "younger" years. However, the capacity was just right and provided a intimate concert and encouraged much participation from the crowd. Chaplin's voice live was amazing and I was very impressed with his range live. Couldn't ask for a better concert. I would highly recommend that any Keane fan go to a live show. In addition, the Newport was a good venue. Also, loved the band's communication and participation with the audience. They seemed genuinely thankful to the audience. VERY AFFORDABLE ticket prices! Overall, well done Keane! Columbus, Ohio loves you ;-)

Keane - best lead singer in the world

by PCMoodyLovers on 1/28/13Newport Music Hall - Columbus

We just saw Keane at the Newport Music Hall in Columbus, Ohio. They are perfect in concert - it was wonderful. I loved the venue - small, general admission and moderately priced. I enjoy being able to get as close as I can, which is impossible in a place like the Q in Cleveland. We love this band and the whole audience was in Keane heaven!

    Cold, loud, and unforgettable!

by justpeachykeen on 1/28/13Newport Music Hall - Columbus

This Saturday marked my fifth time seeing Keane and I think this might have been the best show yet. I'm not from the Columbus area and hadn't been expecting A) a sold out show or B) an extremely enthusiastic crowd. Boy was I wrong! The Newport was packed with people screaming along every word and cheering so much in between songs that Tom had to stand back and just laugh. You could tell the Keane boys were feeding off the energy and were totally amazed. They were so incredibly energetic (as always) and it was just a good time. They're one of the few bands that are actually better in concert. Totally worth the five hours I stood out in the cold (many thanks to Richard for coming to say hi to us in line)!

    AMAZING- unforgettable

by TheRock17 on 1/28/13House of Blues - Dallas

This concert was simply amazing, not many words to say how great it was, I am going to go every time they come to my area. They really interacted with the crowd and got us into the songs. At one point, during encore, I shouted a song I wanted to hear, and Tim and Tom looked at each other and then started playing the song. It was amazing. When they played Somewhere only we know the entire crowd joined together and sang, Tom even stopped singing and just had us sing. AMAZING best concert I will probably ever go to.

    Keane is fantastic live!

by Oddone460 on 1/28/13Newport Music Hall - Columbus

I hate to start out on a bad note, but Youngblood Hawk (who opened for Keane) was not my cup of tea. I tried to get into it but they ended up just annoying me. The lead singer had an extremely whiny voice and jumped around in his bright red pants like a 15 year old boy... Most of the songs sounded exactly the same and it was hard to find anything that stuck out or was memorable about them. The only plus to their performance were the drums.... and yet, I have seen 14 year old children in marching band with more interesting drum beats! (How many people need to play the drums in one band?) I hate to sound harsh because I'm actually very forgiving and easy going... I just couldn't wait for Youngblood Hawk to move out and make way for Keane! (Not sure who decided that Youngblood Hawk was a good match for Keane fans? I think it was too far from the Keane vibe and lacked the substance that Keane fans are generally attracted to!) Keane, however, was perfect. I've seen them perform a handful of times and they never cease to impress me. I've never heard a band that sounds as good or even better live than their album recordings! Tom Chaplin's voice is perfection and his showmanship always keeps the crowd screaming for more... always love his charming quips in between songs. Tim Rice-Oxely is always fun to watch, he seems to ooze emotions into every chord. I was close enough to see Richard Hughes' face and it actually added to the show a lot! He was so happy and energetic of course, spot on. Jesse Quin was a nice addition, this was my first time seeing him. The addition of base seemed to tie the sound together and the sound was larger and more impressive than I can remember past performances being. Over all, the vibe at a Keane concert is electric. It may sound silly but there is certainly a notion that while the band plays for the audience, the audience sings along (loudly) to show their love an appreciation. I've never to been to another show quite like it. -The set list was impeccable. They got a good mix from all four albums in there, I was happy that Hamburg song was included. -In short, Keane made up for Youngblood Hawk and then some!

    Keane is a must see!

by kellphi on 1/28/13Newport Music Hall - Columbus

Keane is one of my favorite artists and this show is truly unforgettable. If you have ever heard a Keane song and enjoyed it, do not hesitate to buy a ticket to one of their live shows. They are at least as good, if not better live than on their recordings. Definitely a concert I would recommend.

    Glad I didn't miss it

by sundogoh on 1/28/13Newport Music Hall - Columbus

Loved seeing Keane in a smaller, intimate setting. They sound just like their albums in concert which is a sign of a good band imo. Hope they come around again.
