About

English rockers Keane play a unique brand of alternative rock that highlights the piano instead of the more traditionally favored guitar. The band is made up of lead singer Tom Chaplin, drummer Richard Hughes, bassist Jesse Quin and pianist Tim Rice-Oxley. Anyone who has been to a Keane concert tends to talk about the infectious excitement coming from the stage, with a fun light show in the background to add to the atmosphere. In particular, during the tour to promote their Strangeland album, even the ballads they performed were described by ticket holders as rousing and energetic.

The band is named after a family friend who at one time cared for and inspired some of the band members, most of whom met in England at a young age. Though Keane has gone through some changes since the beginning, including the departure of guitarist and founder Dominic Scott, the band managed to find success after releasing its first album, Hopes and Fears, in 2004. Some of the album's most popular songs included "Somewhere Only We Know," "Bend and Break" and "Everybody's Changing." In 2006, Under the Iron Sea was released, bringing with it the hit songs "Is It Any Wonder?" and "Atlantic." That album was followed by Perfect Symmetry in 2008, which brought back the use of the guitar and also increased the band's reliance on synthesizers.

Strangeland was released in 2010, becoming Keane's fifth album in a row to garner the No. 1 spot on the UK Albums Chart. After The Best of Keane album was released in 2013, the members of the band announced that they would be taking a break to relax after several busy years of making music.

    better than the CDs!!!

by Johntherevelator on 2/4/13Radio City Music Hall - New York

two things immediately come to mind. 1/AMAZING VOICE: Tom sings seemingly effortlessly during the whole concert, hitting all the high notes. Overall, you get the feeling that his live performance is better than his studio performance. His voice is powerful, yet pure, effortless, and very melodic. 2/WHAT A NICE BUNCH OF GUYS: This is s band that sold millions of records worldwide. Their popularity is even bigger in Europe. Yet, my friend and I got pictures and autographs from 3 of the band members. These guys are friendly, humble, and patient (they took the time to stay out in the cold after the concert to make sure all the fans who were waiting were satisfied).

KEANE was in TOP FORM all night!!!!!

by ILUVKEANE on 2/3/13Newport Music Hall - Columbus

I have travelled to see KEANE play in four different cities now, and every time they sound better than the last. This show was unforgettable!! They play the best "pretty music" of any band today and to see them live is simply awesome! I've seen them in better venues than Newport Music Hall, which had a very small stage I thought, but they still put on a phenomenal show! I even took my mother, age 70, to this one and even she loved it! Her favorite song was "Hamburg Song", which Tom sings and plays keyboards to so beautifully.

The concert was about two hours long. Great music and good performance. Radio City has great acoustics so the sound was pretty good.

Wish this wasn't their last show in the US because we would definitely see them again. Keane is one of those bands that sounds great recorded but amazing live! They played a good mix of new songs and older hits from different albums. Can't wait for them to come back to the US!

    I <3 Keane!

by Chrissie7 on 2/3/13Radio City Music Hall - New York

This was my 5th time seeing Keane, and they never disappoint! Except for earlier this year when we went to see them at the Beacon Theater and were kicked out in the first 5 minutes for DANCING in our seats!! I posted this on their site and it was quickly deleted by admins. Anyway, Keane always brings an awesome show, and I wouldn't miss it for the world. Tom is the best :) Thank you for coming back to NY and I can't wait to see you again!

    Classic Keane

by Anonymous on 2/2/13State Theatre - Portland

this show was literally one of the best shows I have ever gone to. The crowd, while it was a pretty small one, was absolutely awesome and the band really knew how to get us pumped up. They kept the show itself pretty simple but the music was just so good and such a pleasure to listen to. I've been waiting to see them since Hopes and Fears debuted and this was just the chance of a lifetime. Seriously, I love them.

    Keane was great!

by JAM0501 on 2/2/13Radio City Music Hall - New York

I saw Keane play at the Beacon at the start of their Strangeland tour and thought they put on such a great show, I has to see them again in NY. This show was their very last of the tour and I think they had a bit less energy/were a bit tired compared to the Beacon show. That said, they still put on a good show and played every song you'd want them too.

The show was great, and the venue was excellent too. Keane always plays a great show, they are always so thankful to the fans that come out to see them. The State Theater in Portland Maine is a great venue for live music.

    This isn't the last time...

by WayMantis on 2/2/13Radio City Music Hall - New York

This was my first time seeing Keane in person, and I've been kicking myself for not seeing them sooner. This show exceeded all expectations, which were set at such a high bar. Tom Chaplin's voice and energy level had a hold over the entire crowd, as if it was summoning those in attendance to stand and sing for the entire duration of what was an incredible set, with a good mix of Strangeland versus other albums, transitioning seamlessly from upbeat jams to the piano ballads. After the roughly 2 hour long set, I had lost all sense of time and place -- I wanted them to continue for another 2+ hours. Stop reading this review and pencil in the on-sale date of their next show into your iCal / GCal immediately.

    Keane at Radio City

by Dianzy on 2/2/13Radio City Music Hall - New York

Keane was great as always. Thought the sound system for the opening act Youngblood Hawke was harsh and screechy. Much better for Keane.
