I love the layout of the Wiltern, the excellent balcony views, the huge stage - but the sound has always been subpar. No matter who I see there, no matter what genre, the mix is muddy, the drums are not distinct and it's lacking in overall power - I do not mean volume - just kinda meh. Compare that to the Belasco, also a Live Nation venue, there is no contest. Belasco knows how to mix and deliver full sound. As far as VIP. I used to pay $40 and get an underground parking spot, skip the line early entry, a VIP show lanyard and badge and real, hot food, first shot at merch. Then it went to $40, NO parking, early entry and middle-school lukewarm pizza. We are now at $40 for early entry and "pastries". Lemon bars, brownies, cookies and cheese danishes - off the shelf sugar, sugar and more sugar. What the heck Wiltern/Live Nation? VIP is not... VIP anymore - but the price remains the same. It's a $10 experience at most. Don't do it, not worth it, don't fall for it. You'll feel like you've been pranked. Too bad, the downstairs lounge is a nice place to hang before doors and Kevin the Bartender is an awesome guy! And all of the Wiltern personnel are great, even the security staff, which is rare.
