About

TIM RICE and ANDREW LLOYD WEBBER's Tony Award®-winning musical returns at last!
Eva Perón used her beauty and charisma to rise meteorically from the slums of Argentina to the presidential mansion as First Lady. Adored by her people as a champion for the poor, she became one of the most powerful women in the world — while her greed, outsized ambition and fragile health made her one of the most tragic. EVITA tells Eva's passionate and unforgettable true story, and features some of theater's most beautiful songs, including "Don't Cry for Me Argentina," "Another Suitcase in Another Hall" and "High Flying, Adored."  Don't miss the stunning new production of EVITA, directed by MICHAEL GRANDAGE and choreographed by ROB ASHFORD, that Channel 4 New York calls “THE HOTTEST TICKET IN TOWN!”

Cast lacked energy and enthusiasm. Role of Evita lacked the quality voice expected for this role.

    under whelming

by johnny777 on 6/16/14Shea's Performing Arts Center - Buffalo

Sorry to say but I think the Evita understudy was weak. The play was only run 10-12 times and the lead performer for Evita needed to sub out ????? It's not like the show is running for months and months. I thought the sound was good but the clarity of the words being sung was very poor. The set and lighting was excellent.

    Evict a

by Bobethd on 6/14/14Shea's Performing Arts Center - Buffalo

Everything was good but the actress playing Evita had a bit of a shrill voice and did not enunciate so if someone watching didn't know the story or words they would have had trouble following.

    Some Changes - Still Great

by MichaelandJeannie on 5/9/14Majestic Theatre San Antonio - San Antonio

Having been fans of Evita for a number of years, was a little surpirsed to see the changes in scenery, Chez camo gone, different choreography, new songs added, etc. However, the talent was Great, the re-vitalized musical was still great!

    Enthralling

by AceandChaCha on 5/7/14Majestic Theatre San Antonio - San Antonio

We were making a quick trip to San Antonio and saw that Evita was playing at the Majestic Theatre which was very close to our hotel. We had seen Evita years ago at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta and decided we would like to see it again. It was the highlight of our trip. We have seen several Broadway productions and this was one of the best shows we have seen.

Blew me away, Josh (che) was even better than the original production I saw 30 years ago in LA. Wow, that was awesome !

    Evita was a solid staging

by MisterGore on 5/7/14Music Hall At Fair Park - Dallas

With understudies taking on the lead roles of Ava and Che, the performers weren't as strong as anticipated. However, they were Broadway quality. The sets, staging, choreography, and costumes made it the spectacle this rock opera should be. The inclusion of "You Must Love Me," written for the movie adaptation fit in seamlessly.

    Miss the original choreography.....

by jerseyfan1 on 5/6/14Majestic Theatre San Antonio - San Antonio

I have seen Evita so many times, I`ve lost count. This particular production was just so-so for me unfortunately. The previous production had awesome choreography, this choreography seemed lazy to me. Previously, the choreography even helped with the story, example: Che getting beat up by soldiers when disputing Peron, they didn`t even have that in this production. They removed some parts completely also, guess I just can`t handle the changes. I also felt that, although the singer portraying Evita was good, I think the role was just a bit too much for her. She fell behind the beat of the music several times. Her voice sounded nice don`t get me wrong just, sounded winded and behind the beat. Peron & Che were very good! Just wish the choreography would have been better,it was really lacking.

    Evita

by ccoyle on 5/6/14Majestic Theatre San Antonio - San Antonio

While I liked it, it wasn't the best I have seen. I wanted to see it because it was a classic play - but while the male lead was outstanding the female lead was just ok

    Evita was less than satisfactory

by Alice4 on 5/6/14Majestic Theatre San Antonio - San Antonio

The character Evita was played by a lady that was NOT a lead singer by any means. She could not be understood. I do not think the Sat. matinee should offer less quality performers just because it is an afternoon event. My husband and I were disappointed and had traveled 180 miles for this play.

    This version of Evita was...meh.

by LonghornLady on 5/6/14Majestic Theatre San Antonio - San Antonio

I saw Evita in London in 1981 with Elaine Paige and David Essex...now THAT was a show. It made such an impact on me that I wanted this show to be the first one that I took my 9 y.o. daughter to. What a disappointment. The actress playing Evita in this version was so bland -- she had no stage presence whatsoever. She seemed to rush through all her numbers, as if she was fearful that everyone would figure out that she really doesn't have the chops to carry off the character of Eva Peron. The actor portraying the Che character was much better. For me, he stood out because his voice was beautiful -- crystal clear with fantastic enunciation. There were a couple of standout scenes, and the music was as beautiful as ever, but for the most part, I was not impressed with this version of Evita. (A couple of side comments : it is so irritating that Majestic Theater allows people to come into the show so late, especially since so many people are discourteous in that way. Also, WHY OH WHY does Majestic Theater sell loud, crinkly packets of cookies and candy at their concession stand? If they feel they really must appease the morons that need to eat that junk at a Broadway-type show, then PLEASE forbid people from bringing it back into the theater!)
