I now see Garbage in a brand new light and feel slightly stupid for not getting the message years ago. In my defense I am a melodic person who is into the rhythm of a song before I decipher the lyrics. Admittedly, most times the rhythm is all I need. When Shirley Manson relayed aspects of her troubled youth and inspiration for "making it" I was floored. Every old song sounded new after that revelation. I have been listening to their music ever since with fresh ears.
Blondie was the second concert I ever attended back in 1979 (Belmont Racetrack NY. Nick Lowe and Rockpile opening). I have seen them multiple times and continue to keep up with their new material. Debbie is as beautiful as ever, Clem Burke beats those drums, still, like a man possessed, and Chris Stein rocks with a purposeful calm the betrays the hard edged rock sound his guitar puts out. The new members of the band are a fine fit and give Blondie's new material a familiar but, fresh sound. Keep Rockin' Blondie and Garbage!
