About

Ben Folds is widely regarded as one of the major music influencers of our generation.

He's created an enormous body of genre-bending music that includes pop albums with Ben Folds Five, multiple solo albums, and numerous collaborative records. His last album was a blend of pop songs and his Concerto for Piano and Orchestra that soared to #1 on both the Billboard classical and classical crossover charts.

For over a decade he's performed with some of the world's greatest symphony orchestras, and currently serves as the first ever Artistic Advisor to the National Symphony Orchestra at the Kennedy Center.

Folds released his first book - a collection of interrelated essays, anecdotes and lessons about art, life and music - in 2019, which debuted as a New York Times Best Seller, and is currently hosting a podcast series spinoff of his book entitled "Lightning Bugs: Conversations with Ben Folds." In addition to solo rock and orchestral touring, he's also developing a new unscripted tv series with Fred Rogers Productions, continues to appear in various film/tv guest starring roles, and is working on two new albums.

An avid photographer, Folds is also a member of the prestigious Sony Artisans of Imagery, has worked as an assignment photo editor for National Geographic, and was featured in a mini-documentary by the Kennedy Center's Digital Project on his photographic work.

An outspoken champion for arts education and music therapy funding in our nation's public schools, has served for over five years as an active member of the distinguished Artist Committee of Americans For The Arts (AFTA), and serves on the Board of AFTA's Arts Action Fund. He also served as Chairman of the Arts Action Fund's ArtsVote2020 national initiative that encouraged voter engagement in the 2020 US elections, and continually advocates for improving public policies for the arts and arts education.

  • Great piano playing; could use less singin

    by J. K. on 11/11/25Genesee Theatre - WaukeganRating: 4 out of 5

I enjoyed the high energy piano playing of Ben Ford, and the music written by both he and Ms. Kraft. They both related well to audience. A little too much personal background info to explain meaning of songs they wrote, though. I would like to have heard Ben just play the piano and not sing for a segment of his performance. The show was billed as a piano concert with an opening act of a singer.

  • Missed it

My driveway was part of a crime scene Saturday night. I wasn’t able to make it.

  • I am the Luckiest….

by Sue on 11/9/25Coronado Theatre - RockfordRating: 5 out of 5

First off, I am a Ben Folds FANatic. And I am the Luckiest to stomp my feet and sing along and hear some of my all time favorites during his Ben Folds & A Piano Tour. Good mix of newish and old tunes.. even back to the Ben Folds Five days! His piano renditions steal the show, too! Amazing! Go…Go…Go …. You won’t be sorry!

  • Worth the Trip

by Eddie on 10/20/25F.M. Kirby Center - Wilkes BarreRating: 5 out of 5

My spouse and I drove over two hours to see the show. I was worried on the way over whether it was worth the trip, worth the sitter, worth the money and all that. I shouldn’t be such a worrier because it was really great. Fun set list in a beautiful theatre with a great encore. Strong opener too.

  • The show was more than expected!

We enjoyed every song. Ben Folds had an incredible amount of energy and put all of his emotion into every song.

  • Good and not so much

by Dee Dee on 10/13/25Harrah's Cherokee Center - Asheville - AshevilleRating: 4 out of 5

Symphony was great and so was Ben, but I thought he went on far too long about his political views. Although I agree with him, I thought he could have made his message shorter. Also, bummed he didn’t sing “Brick!”

  • Extraordinary performance

by RPM on 10/13/25Harrah's Cherokee Center - Asheville - AshevilleRating: 5 out of 5

I had heard/seen some of Ben Folds’ performances with other symphonies and enjoyed them. Given the limited rehearsal window I was quite impressed with the seamlessness of the Asheville Symphony and Folds. Not sure if it had been partially rehearsed but the improvised interlude with Folds doling out keys and motifs to different sections in response to a heckler felt spontaneous. The Asheville Symphony is a local treasure (my only gripe with Ben Folds was his reference to the symphony as ‘great for a mid size city’, they need no such qualifier) and appreciated the pitch for music and the arts as an essential part of our nation’s heritage and hallmark of a free society.

  • Impressed

We haven’t followed Ben Folds closely but thought this sounded like a great show. We were super impressed with the symphony and with Ben’s performance. His humor, passion and leadership were inspiring at a time when all three are much needed.

  • Far Exceeded ALL Expectations

by Brady B on 10/13/25Harrah's Cherokee Center - Asheville - AshevilleRating: 5 out of 5

Ben Folds with a full orchestra was amazing, and so much fun. The brilliance of Ben was on full display and you could tell the full orchestra was having a blast as well. The topper for us is when he made up his own song with the full orchestra and was instructing it along the way. Then he finished off with The Luckiest, which is the theme for our marriage. Thank you Ben Folds and the Ashville Symphony Orchestra for an amazing night..

  • Amazing night!

Ben mixed authentic stories with an inspiring orchestra to cover a spectrum of songs that continue to resonate.
