Atlanta Falcons Team History

The Atlanta Falcons joined the NFL as an expansion team in 1966. Since their start, they’ve won six division championships and have appeared in two Super Bowl games (1999 and 2017). The Falcons began play in the former Georgia Dome in 1992, where they defeated all other 31 NFL teams at least once during their time there. In 1998, they had their best season to date, finishing 14-2 and winning the NFC West.

The Falcons played their final match at the Georgia Dome on January 22, 2017, beating the Green Bay Packers 44-21 to win the division title. Upon completion of the Mercedes-Benz Stadium, the Falcons opened their new home with a preseason game in August 2017.

Atlanta Falcons at Mercedes-Benz Stadium

Located in Atlanta, the 71,000-capacity Mercedes-Benz Stadium (MBS) opened in 2017. Built as a replacement for the Georgia Dome, Mercedes-Benz Stadium was constructed completely with the fan experience in mind. Wide concourses give fans the ability to freely move around the stadium on any level.

MBS is one of the most sustainable and environmentally-conscious sports venues in the world. After achieving LEED Platinum certification upon completion in 2017, MBS focused on implementing operations to create a zero waste environment. As part of its sustainability initiatives, MBS developed and implemented a variety of green practices, such as water conservation, energy conservation, recycling and compost, alternative transportation, an urban garden, and agriculture programs.

MBS became the first sports and entertainment venue to achieve LEED Zero certification in any category which can only be achieved if a venue has achieved LEED Platinum, and the first Stadium worldwide to achieve official TRUE Platinum certification for zero waste. The diverted materials are reduced, reused, recycled, composted and/or recovered to curb the Stadium's overall environmental footprint.

    Beautiful Stadium... But?

by Matt on 10/19/22Mercedes-Benz Stadium - Atlanta

This was my first experience going to Mercedes Stadium. It was absolutely stunning. You can definitely tell there was a lot of time and effort put into making the new stadium be very awe-inspiring. Everything looked clean, the restaurants and food stalls looked modern and I adored the bar and tvs on the second level. Very cool. It was really unfortunate that the overall experience was not good. When I first arrived and got to the gate, there was a line. Obviously not a big deal, it was for a football game. The line moved until I was about 5 people away when security called a halt to every line at metal detectors. A few minutes go by and nothing has changed. People ask what is going on and the guards either ignore questions or pawn it off on someone else who ignores the questions. Gate 1 basically clears, and still we wait. Everyone waiting with me missed kickoff because.... we still do not know. Bad first impression. I get in the stadium, grab a beer and am feeling better because I can see the game as I head to my seat thanks to all the tvs around. I get to my section and I could not find the Row numbers. I was in the 4th row, so I counted 4 rows up and sat in my seat number. It wasnt until someone came up saying I was in their seat did I realize that there are rows down the side where the numbers start and I am 3 rows higher than I intended. That was probably on me for not seeing the Row numbers, but you would think those should be a little more visible. Half time comes and I go to one of the BBQ places close to section 330. I wait in line for 15-20 minutes and am 3 people from the front when the people at the counter say that they ran out of meat. Apparently, the workers did not think ahead with all the people in their lines and think they would need more when they were running out. They did not even mention it until they were empty. We basically stood in line for no reason. Why couldnt they just tell people they were running low? It would have given the customers the option to either test their luck and stay in line, hoping to get food, or to move on to another food stand. The actual facilities were very nice but there is obviously some more training that needs to be held with the workers of the stadium. Until then, I will not be coming back to give my money to under trained staff. Maybe one less BBQ fusion restaurant with wooden shiplap background and a few more meetings with workers would be a better money allocation.

    Who Dat

    by 1528@BUBBASkye on 9/14/22Mercedes-Benz Stadium - Atlanta

Entry into the facility was easy and fast! We really enjoyed the entertainment before and during the game. I believe the exiting process especially with Covid and dangerous situations it was too crowded and hot, there should be more than one exit door. The food was horrible; First I tried the fried chicken, which was cold and hard. I then ordered a hotdog which you usually can’t go wrong with, however it was undercooked, cold, and rubbery tasting ! The bacon cheese burger was cold and the cheese was hard. The only good thing was the fries!!

Great Kickoff experience... until the team blew it

by Luis on 9/14/22Mercedes-Benz Stadium - Atlanta

Loved the ambience you guys did, didn't like the VIP/exclusive part that i was not aware of, maybe next time share broadly to those who want to join. Loved all you did to engage with people, set the mood (Really awesome to see Freddy Falcon). Food and Drinks always awesome. Loved that you're not "forced" to tip for drinks. Love the swag, and this one was actually useful to cherr the team (more of this). I felt people connected to the game and the team, it all went down with the performance in the 4th Q, that's one of the reasons i don't go there every week and didn't renew my season ticket. This was for sure one of the best game experiences I've had! Kudos!

    "Dirty Birds" Open Practice

    by Mott-Dogg on 6/6/22Mercedes-Benz Stadium - Atlanta

It was a good experience to have had the opportunity to watch (MY) Atlanta Falcons practice. Having to miss a couple other practices due to scheduling, I was really happy to get back on track to see this one. Thank you, Mercedes Benz Staff, and all involved in making this happen for the public. My greatest experience was watching the drills, communications among the players that I watched from the stands. In detail, there seems to be SOMETHING different about the team's demeanor. I saw relaxed- yet determined players on the field Friday. With new and old pieces working together, it appears that rapport and chemistry among the players are generating for the good of the team's goals and mission. The drills on both sides of the ball are seemingly developing from my first look. I really enjoyed the players taking the time out to sign a few autographs and take pics with fans (especially the children). That speaks volume for their character, and it is welcoming to this city to see! Even though the players were bomb-rushed by the fans that wanted pics and autographs, I lucked out. Lol! With that being said, a couple of the players (if you read this) owe me; this Retired Army Veteran, the pleasure of buying you a lunch/dinner just to show my love and appreciation. Other than that, I liked what I saw and I'm more than sure that everyone there did too, and it was enjoyable experience. Keep your heads on the swivel men! And let's go knock somebody's Dingle-Dangle in the dirt this season! Roger that?!! Bird Nation fan signing out...
