About

From multiple Grammy Award®-winning songwriter dolly parton, the Tony Award®-winning director of Wicked and the Tony-winning choreographer of In The Heights comes 9 to 5: The Musical, a hilarious story of friendship and revenge in the Rolodex era. This all-new musical comedy based on the hit movie features the blockbuster title song plus an exciting new score of 18 original numbers by Dolly Parton that mix Broadway and pop with her signature witty lyrics.

Set in 1979 - when Wall Street was hot and 8-tracks were cool - 9 to 5: The Musical is about three unlikely friends who conspire to take control of their company and learn there's nothing they can't do - even in a man's world! Multiple Emmy Award® winner and Tony nominee Allison Janney (Juno, "The West Wing") stars as Violet, the wise-cracking ringleader who joins co-workers Judy and Doralee (Stephanie J. Block and Megan Hilty of Wicked) to turn the tables on their obnoxious boss, Franklin Hart Jr. (Tony nominee Marc Kudisch).

Outrageous, thought-provoking and even a little romantic, 9 to 5: The Musical is about teaming up and getting credit... it's about kicking butt and taking care of business... and it's about to open on Broadway!

    9 To 5 at Gammage

    by abracadabra222 on 2/28/11ASU Gammage - Tempe

This show follows the movie version of 9 to 5 very closely, therefore it is funny and enjoyable. The intro and wrap up of Dolly Parton video is a good addition. The sound in the theater is kind of muddy though and makes it difficult to understand all the spoken dialogue.

This musical was awsome! The player that played Dolly's part was great... it was almost like Dolly was there. Also, loved the brief videos of Dolly Introducing actors, etc. Great touch!

    Not the Broadway Production

by TheatreProfessor on 2/28/11ASU Gammage - Tempe

I was very disappointed to come to the touring production of "9 to 5," thinking it would be a remount of Joe Mantello's fantastic direction of the musical on Broadway. But it was a different director/choreographer's staging, which was satisfactory but nowhere near the directorial brilliance of Mantello.

9 to 5 was fun and lively

by HillsGirl on 2/27/11ASU Gammage - Tempe

The cast was excellent. The voices and musical numbers were well done. No fault of the actors, however, was the sound system. The volume was deafening and you couldn't understand the words when the three stars sang together. Doralee Rhodes voice came off as loud and brassy-not her fault, but the sound system. After speaking to someone about the sound, the second act began with better sound, but soon changed to the brassy noise again. Hard to believe that such an auditorium would have such a poor sound system.

    9 to 5 not good

by Anonymous on 2/26/11ASU Gammage - Tempe

I wish the ratings would be posted up front. We were not entertained by cussing and very sleazy actions. We left at intermission. We should have left way earlier. I guess I was mislead by the fun "9 to 5" theme song.

    9 to 5 was disappointing.

    by Pengwen51 on 2/26/11ASU Gammage - Tempe

There were some positives to this Musical: acting, set changes, solo numbers sung in normal voice. When it came to the chorus it was a cacophony of screeching and we could not understand one word of the songs. The sound was deafening. This was my friend's first musical and his experience was dismal at best. Our seats were close to the middle in the first row of the Grand Tier Balcony. The four of us had to put our fingers in our ears for the group numbers. Why does the music have to be so loud that your pleasure quotient is nullified????

    Fun Times

by Anonymous on 2/26/11ASU Gammage - Tempe

The show was just a fun time. It's no ground-breaking amazing musical by any means but we really enjoyed it. We loved how they incorporated Dolly into the show and were really impressed with the actors. If you loved the movie, you'll love the show!

    Screeeech!

by ladydakota on 2/25/11ASU Gammage - Tempe

The play could have been excellent if we could have understood the words to the songs. DoraLyn's singing was more like screeching. We think she was trying too hard to sound like Dolly. At times the orchestra was so loud you couldn't hear the singers. Maybe it was the sound mixer that was at fault but what could have been a great show was less than great.

    Nine To Five

by Anonymous on 2/24/11ASU Gammage - Tempe

It was lots of fun and the characters were very well defined. It had you rooting for the women. However, the orchestra played too loud and two of the main characters, in particular had to sing-shout over the music......therefore some of the lyrics were hard to understand. The softer slower ones were much more clear. The Nine to Five lead song was well done in all its versions. It was fun having Dollie Parton part of the show as sort of an emcee.

LOVED this musical & I hate musicals!!

by jujutemple on 2/24/11ASU Gammage - Tempe

I am NOT a fan of musicals, however, this one was great! Amazing performance by Dianna Degarmo as Doralee. They added some funny one-liners that made the story a little more up-to-date. Fantastic performances. Very entertaining. Highly recommend. A great time whether you've seen the original movie or not.

    Fun but forgettable

by gbhutson on 2/18/11Bank of America Theatre - Chicago

This was a fun show to watch, and we enjoyed ourselves. The songs were decent, but pretty forgettable. Diana DiGarmo's accent portraying Dora Lee was annoying, and sounded like an exaggerated hill-billy Barbie doll, but her singing voice was very good. Fans of the movie will find the familiar story-line, but with some not-insignificant adjustments. I prefer the movie's characterization of both Roz and Violet, though this show did a better job of fleshing out Judy. Overall it was a good show, and worth the time to see.

    9 to 5 was cute

by GMora on 2/3/11Bank of America Theatre - Chicago

This show was definitely entertaining. The night I was there, Dolly Parton was also there and even though she did not perform, she spoke to the audience and we sang Happy Birthday to her. The show is very low-key and charming. I am happy I saw it but I do not think I would see it again.
