About

From multiple Grammy Award®-winning songwriter dolly parton, the Tony Award®-winning director of Wicked and the Tony-winning choreographer of In The Heights comes 9 to 5: The Musical, a hilarious story of friendship and revenge in the Rolodex era. This all-new musical comedy based on the hit movie features the blockbuster title song plus an exciting new score of 18 original numbers by Dolly Parton that mix Broadway and pop with her signature witty lyrics.

Set in 1979 - when Wall Street was hot and 8-tracks were cool - 9 to 5: The Musical is about three unlikely friends who conspire to take control of their company and learn there's nothing they can't do - even in a man's world! Multiple Emmy Award® winner and Tony nominee Allison Janney (Juno, "The West Wing") stars as Violet, the wise-cracking ringleader who joins co-workers Judy and Doralee (Stephanie J. Block and Megan Hilty of Wicked) to turn the tables on their obnoxious boss, Franklin Hart Jr. (Tony nominee Marc Kudisch).

Outrageous, thought-provoking and even a little romantic, 9 to 5: The Musical is about teaming up and getting credit... it's about kicking butt and taking care of business... and it's about to open on Broadway!

    Great Performers but technical issues

by ScottD on 4/1/19Amaturo Theater at Broward Center - Ft Lauderdale

We enjoyed the performances in 9 to 5. Jeanine Levy and Cindy Pierce were standouts. The technical issues were the biggest disappointment to what is usually a well run theater group. The sound mix made it hard to understand many numbers and microphones were not on many times when actors made entrances. An issue that was not technical but a distracting, breathing problem were the smoke machines. The smoke machines started before the show and never stopped; sometimes cranked up to overdrive during the "smoking" scene. If the 1979 office looks like a smokey night in England, you might be using to much smoke. If the theater stinks and audience members are coughing, you might be using to much smoke. I gave the excess smoke a pass during Jekyll & Hyde but I don't remember offices being this smokey in 1979 even with people smoking cigarettes.

    Great Fun and Great Talent

by Bucketlister on 2/26/17Spreckels Theatre - San Diego

The Spreckels is a great location for any type of show. Great seats and sight lines and wonderful sound reproduction. The performers for 9 to 5, are all very talented with good voices and very good dancing skills. The show follows the story line of the movie, so if you allow your children to watch the movie than this show acceptable for that age group. It does have some adult oriented humor, IE: "MM's", but it is in keeping with the original. So for a fun night out, performed very well and the more reasonable price compared to other venues in the area, this is the best choice

9 To 5 was THE BEST!

by Anonymous on 2/23/17Spreckels Theatre - San Diego

We thoroughly enjoyed 9 To 5. Broadway quality singing, dancing and acting. And I loved that they incorporated some of today's "current events" to make it even more funny. I see many plays and I highly recommend this one if you want to feel uplifted, have a good laugh and a very entertaining evening.

Horrible production at the high Broadway price

by Showz123 on 2/18/15California Theatre of the Performing Arts - San Bernardino

At $100 per seat you'd expect a Broadway caliber production, not the case. There were no stage sets, they just projected a background on a screen, horrible acting and singing (with the exception of two actors), and and they didn't even buy realistic wigs. They used like $5 Halloween store wigs, with horrible (to no) parts, looked like a pile of nylon on their heads. It's hard to believe the characters, when the wigs are so bad that a real person would never wear one outside of the house. Last time I go to a production here. I left at Intermission.

    FUN TIME FOR ALL

by CAHotSpringsfan on 2/17/15California Theatre of the Performing Arts - San Bernardino

The show was very enjoyable. It started out slow but got more enjoyable as it went along and had lots of laugh moments. The theater had been restored to its original beauty and it was easy to see everything that happened on stage.

9 to 5 was better than the movie

by originator on 11/4/13UTEP Dinner Theatre - El Paso

All the cast members were perfect for their roles. The music was acceptional and as always the food was great. Service again was pefection. We were seated immediately and were directed to our table by a very courteuos employee. This is the 3rd time I have been to the UTEP dinner theatre. Our youngest son is going to major in music and I thought this would be perfect opportunity for him to see what he can do. He loved it.

Even More Fun Than The Movie!

by JHof on 10/15/11Bank of America Theatre - Chicago

Being a huge fan of the movie, I was apprehensive about seeing the musical. I wasn't sure it was going to meet my expectations. Boy did it! The show was fantastic, funny, and hilariously entertaining. I would highly recommend it to any and all! Love the added touch of having Dolly Parton narrate it and sing the signature song at the end!

The musical was too much like the movie...almost word for word. But the girl that played Doralee (Diana DeGarmo) had an excellent voice. My grandmother loved it:)
