“The two-time Tony® Award-winning "39 Steps" is a comedic spoof of the classic 1935 film, with only 4 "insanely talented" actors portraying more than 150 characters, sometimes changing roles in the blink of an eye. The brilliantly madcap story follows our dashing hero Richard Hannay as he races to solve the mystery of The 39 Steps, all the while trying to clear his name! The show’s uproarious fast-paced 100 minutes promises to leave you gasping for breath… in a good way!"
Ben Brantley of the New York Times called it “Absurdly enjoyable,” “A perfect soufflé,” and “Theatre at its finest.” Liz Smith of the New York Post called it “The most entertaining show on Broadway, ” and Joe Dziemianowicz of the Daily News said it’s “Ingenious! A Dizzy Delight!”

Four very talented actors propel this non-stop ride. You will be riveted to this fast moving thriller comedy -- even when you know what happens next. i wanted to shake their hands at the end.
What a wonderful, hilarious, well done show. Hard to believe only four actors. Great Job. We really enjoyed it. 5 stars.
Creative with very talented actors- a lot of fun and we all greatly enjoyed this show
An excellent, very busy, cast of 4 recreates the 39 Steps in a hilarious and imaginative way. Also salutes Hitchcock in multiple funny asides. Recommend that you view the original first, for full effect.
Saw the show when it was previously on Broadway. Loved it so went back for more. Very clever what 4 actors can do. Recommended highly.
My husband and I saw the original in 2008...saw it again last Sunday and loved it just as much. Wonderful, wonderful!!! Actors were brilliant. One of our top ten favorites!!
Great use of resources. Just 4 actors making all the play. A fresh air into a great classic movie. Go for a great moment.
I had friends visiting from the UK who wanted to see something at the theatre. With 6 of us and a mix of adults & teenagers, we were looking for something entertaining but not likely to break the bank. The 39 Steps was a good choice. Not only because we got a great ticket price but also because it appealed to all of us. After a slow start, the production took off and took us all with it. There were some real laugh out loud moments. The cast were great. The theatre could probably do with a bit of TLC but it was comfortable & the seats were good with a great view & good acoustics. It was also nice to be able to take a drink into the auditorium. There was plenty of leg room too. All in all, a great evening out and I would recommend it for others.
I hadn't seen the Hitchcock movie of 39 steps in at least 20 years. Through my laughter, I began to recall it and all its intricacies. The actors are wonderful. That there are only 4 of them is astounding as only one plays just a single part...the rest appear repeatedly in distinctly different and funny roles. My hesitation to award it 5 Stars is that there were too many times that I (we) didn't understand their lines spoken with accents. Still go see it and you'll have a fun time.
I just loved it! Great show with fantastic actors!
Good seats, very talented actors, and a funny play. If you go in knowing it will be a bit silly, you will enjoy it if you like fun shows. Do not go if you want singing or a dark brooding show.
Very fun. Took our 10 year old they loved it. Perfect for a fun night out. Really nice theater all seats are good.
Performers were amazing ! The play was a total blast !
39 Steps is a worldwide phenomenon and I'm so glad it's coming back to New York City. I saw it at least 10 times at the Helen Hayes Theatre and was surrounded by kids ranging from 8 to 17 years old - they giggled and laughed at the fast-paced theatrics! So I brought my best friend with his two daughters 8 and 12 and when we got home, they acted out some of the scenes in their own living room. This is a great show for everyone!
