I was only vaguely familiar with Lee Ann, but decided to take a flyer to see her show -- at the Flying Monkey, of course! Glad I did. She's a wonderful singer, with a clear, strong voice a little reminiscent of someone who I'm a huge fan of: Alison Krauss. Excellent band, too, with a couple of guitar players who are multi-instrumentalists.
She sang a lot of stuff from her latest album, which was fine with me, because I didn't recognize most of the other songs, either. The best segment was in the middle of the show when she and those two guys did a mini-set of acoustic songs with a country gospel feel. Really fine.
The show had a pretty relaxed feel to it, with a lot of mid-tempo numbers, mostly about love, loss, cheating hearts, drinking and so on -- the usual country fare. Very tasteful, if not over-the-top high energy.
Some others below noted that she lacked stage presence, didn't talk to the audience, and so forth. She must have taken some coaching, because she talked to the audience quite a bit, told some cute little stories about some of the songs, and fired out a few quips, too -- quite engaging all around! I will say that she doesn't MOVE that well on the stage -- a little wooden, and seemed reluctant to let it all hang out. But she is who she is, which is just fine.
