About

TIM RICE and ANDREW LLOYD WEBBER's Tony Award®-winning musical returns at last!
Eva Perón used her beauty and charisma to rise meteorically from the slums of Argentina to the presidential mansion as First Lady. Adored by her people as a champion for the poor, she became one of the most powerful women in the world — while her greed, outsized ambition and fragile health made her one of the most tragic. EVITA tells Eva's passionate and unforgettable true story, and features some of theater's most beautiful songs, including "Don't Cry for Me Argentina," "Another Suitcase in Another Hall" and "High Flying, Adored."  Don't miss the stunning new production of EVITA, directed by MICHAEL GRANDAGE and choreographed by ROB ASHFORD, that Channel 4 New York calls “THE HOTTEST TICKET IN TOWN!”

    Very good performance

by Anonymous on 8/26/14Des Moines Performing Arts - Civic Center - Des Moines

On the way out, someone said, "She sang the crap out of it." Not my phraseology, but the comment hits the mark. Che and Peron were pretty darn good too.

    Extraordinary Supporting cast!

by Tauran on 8/25/14Des Moines Performing Arts - Civic Center - Des Moines

This is a case where the supporting cast definitely out shined the leads. The actress in the role of Eva Peron simply did not have the range for the role. She obviously could not hit the low notes that are so necessary to this score. Che was fine. Just lacking in emotional content. His singing was perfect. The chorus was impeccable. Song, dance, and acting stellar. And the production is quite well conceived and executed, other than the opening scene which was confusing. Its supposed to be a movie theatre and the film interrupted for the announcement of the death of Eva Peron. The way it was presented was confusing. The venue is wonderful. The Civic Center in Des Moines is a most pleasant place for theatre.

    okay

by Fe1358 on 8/25/14Des Moines Performing Arts - Civic Center - Des Moines

For some reason I was underwhelmed instead of overwhelmed. The vocals were drowned out by the instrumentals. I did not feel as if the actors were giving their 100 per cent best. No heart or soul in the production.

    Evita was Fantastic

by FanofEvita on 8/25/14Des Moines Performing Arts - Civic Center - Des Moines

My daughter and I went to Evita the first evening. The performance was unbelievable! We were very impressed with this adaptation, the skill of the actors, the details in the set, the costumes. Overall it was a wonderful experience!

We were disappointed in the acustics of the Civic Center - the orchestra overshadowed the singers and we weren't able to understand the words. My husband and I left at intermission.

    a little disappointed

by hslim on 6/19/14Shea's Performing Arts Center - Buffalo

the show was good - i mean i love the music & all but i felt the leads did not sound as good as i hoped they would. While watching the show i could not help but compare it to the movie Evita starring Madonna & Antonio Banderas, and the movie sounded better. Madonna sounded better than the lady playing Evita, maybe because she is just the understudy. Next time I watch I will try to watch it when the primary actress is performing

    Evita thrilled!

by JaneKN on 6/18/14Shea's Performing Arts Center - Buffalo

This production was fabulous. The cast could be classified as incredible, they deserved the rousing standing ovation at this performance. I couldn't say more about the lighting, music and total talent involved. I'm so happy to have had the pleasure of being in the audience. The Touring cast is so good, don't miss this show.

    Lackluster Performance

by chicago08 on 6/18/14Shea's Performing Arts Center - Buffalo

This was the third time I've seen Evita. I've seen the touring production at Shea's several years ago and also the movie. This production seemed to lack energy. The best actor in my opinion, was Che. The actress who played Eva Peron didn't have a strong enough voice for some of the songs she had to sing and at times, it sounded like she was screaming. Some of the ensembles movement on the stage appeared amateurish, I've seen high school productions do better. The diction on the part of the cast was very good, so it made the dialogue completely understandable and the story line easy to follow.

    Wonderful experience!

by ShowMomFromOHIO on 6/17/14Shea's Performing Arts Center - Buffalo

I have seen Evita three times! Once on broadway, and twice with this tour - Orlando and Buffalo. It is a must see! The Buffalo cast was fantastic - such talent! The scenery was great, and the musicians were top notch! The broadway quality musicianship can't be beat! If you have a chance to catch a performance of this touring group - do so! You will not be disappointed!

    Evita very disappointing

by joalan41 on 6/17/14Shea's Performing Arts Center - Buffalo

My husband & I were very disappointed in the event. The music was so loud that the singers had to "yell" over the music to try & make themselves heard which then made it hard to understand the songs. Even the few spoken lines were drowned out by the music. At one point we almost walked out in the first half of the program. Sorry we chose to attend this event.

Great show. Every person was so talented. I was hoping for time to slow down because I did not want it to end.

    A night to remember

by KimmieA007 on 6/17/14Shea's Performing Arts Center - Buffalo

It was a captivating show from the beginning with a great cast. I found it a little difficult to keep a few of the characters straight from scene to scene. Also a brief synopsis of what the entire production was about would have been nice to included in the playbill.
