Celtic Thunder in Concert

Seeing Irish musical phenomenon Celtic Thunder in person offers more than you might expect from a typical concert. The settings and showmanship are akin to a Broadway theatrical production, with a wealth of musical talent at the center of it. The five singers who make up Celtic Thunder are all enormously gifted vocalists, and their blend of Irish folk flavors with pop is a carefully concocted brew. But you get something extra when you see them live in concert. The elaborate stage visuals that accompany Celtic Thunder's performances are an essential part of the proceedings, leading the group to capture many past productions on CD and DVD. The combination of musicality and theatricality has made the group an international sensation since their start in the late 2000s. Every tour is a unique production unto itself: from 2008's The Show to 2012's Voyage, 2013's Mythology, and now their 2018 tour, X.

Celtic Thunder Background

The foresight of producer Sharon Browne first brought Celtic Thunder together. Browne’s vision combines the talents of five young, world-class Irish vocalists for a project that is as much about live performance as recordings, and creating a sound that keeps traditional Irish music at its core, while opening itself up to other influences—including contemporary pop/rock, spirituals, and holiday music. Ryan Kelly, Damian McGinty, Paul Byron, George Donaldson, and Keith Harkin made up the original quintet that formed in Ireland in 2007. On early albums like ‘Celtic Thunder: The Show’ and ‘Celtic Thunder: Act Two,’ they established an approach that appealed to a broad cross section of music fans, and they performed concerts that brought elaborate visuals and bold theatricality into the mix. Today only Kelly and McGinty remain from the original lineup, but Celtic Thunder continues to be an international sensation, and the group's peerless vocals and unbridled showmanship remain on point.

    Amazing!

by GiGi on 10/31/23Saenger Theatre New Orleans - New Orleans

Every moment from the beginning of the sound check, the concert and the Meet and greet afterwards were the best ever. This was my first CT concert, but I’ve been following them for several years and have many of their CDs Bought the cd and other merchandise. There were a couple of new songs I’d never heard, but love! Worth every penny

A good concert, but didn't feel like Celtic Thunder

by Will on 10/30/23Brown County Music Center - Nashville

The concert was ok, but never once felt like Celtic Thunder. Damian McGinty tried his best to carry the others in enthusiasm, but the other three singers looked pissed off and had no joy or enthusiasm in their performances. Also, the pianist was set up at the front of the stage causing us to have no line-of-sight view of the performers for much of the show. First time having seats so close (2nd row) only to spend it watching the back of the piano player.

    wow

by Jane on 10/25/23Brown County Music Center - Nashville

I've been watching the group for years on tv, but to see them in person was spectacular. Their new songs were soulful and thoughtful, very well written. Their energy was out of this world. Even though they've sung some of those songs hundreds of times, their enthusiasm made it seem like the first time. The band was excellent. Can't wait till they come back !!

    Wonderful

by V.B. and L.B. on 10/25/23Brown County Music Center - Nashville

We have followed Celtic Thunder since their start 14 years ago. We will always love and appreciate the men and women who make Celtic Thunder. We have seen the the members change over the years and the group always remains a wonderful group to listen to and watch on stage. We will always go to see them when they are within a days drive. I was surprised they came to a small town in Indiana to share their talent and history of Ireland. We feel the night we saw them in Nashville, IN the audience may have felt less energy coming from the stage than normal for Celtic Thunder. We do not know way, maybe the fast pace of the tour or the venue and less energetic audience, but I can assure any one who may read a review about this that after 14 years of seeing them in varies venues, Celtic Thunder has always had high energy and they know how to have fun on stage.

    Awesome experience

by Mary on 10/24/23Brown County Music Center - Nashville

Celtic Thunder members bring music and songs to life with their enthusiasm and beautiful harmonies. Great experience and grateful close enough for me and my family to attend in Nashville, IN. Ronan Scolard filled in for Ryan Kelly of CT who wasn’t able to perform and Ronan did a good job of performing. However, Ryan’s presence was greatly missed.

Slow beginning - but got better

by Lew on 10/24/23Brown County Music Center - Nashville

This was my 4th or 5th Celtic Thunder live performance and the 1st one with which I have not been completely satisfied. I brought 5 friends and family members who had not seen their concerts before. We all had the same opinion- that the 1st half had too many dreary and sad songs which left us depressed at the intermission. We also all agreed that the 2nd half picked up with more cheerful and happier music which we enjoyed. I was also disappointed that Ryan was not performing that night. I do not know if he was ill or was no longer with the group (which was not explained). Finally, they need that 5th member to complete the fullness of their sound which they previously brought to the stage. I've been a fan for 15 years and hope to see them again in the future.

CT never does a bad show! Each singer is gifted vocally and musically, and harmonize beautifully when they sing as a quartet. A “ can’t -miss” show!!!!!
