About

Willie Nelson is one of the most successful country music singer-songwriters in history, releasing 68 studio albums and 10 live albums. He wrote his first song at the age of seven and joined his first band at ten, playing concerts as a lead singer and guitar player while still in high school. He spent the ‘50s and ‘60s writing songs for established acts such as Ray Price and Patsy Cline, as well as releasing a string of albums on Liberty and RCA beginning with his debut …And Then I Wrote in 1962. In 1973, he signed to Atlantic Records and put out Shotgun Willie, which veered into outlaw country, a stark contrast from the mainstream Nashville sound and clean-cut country artists of the era. 1975’s Red Headed Stranger and 1978’s Stardust followed on Columbia Records, both garnering commercial and critical success. The ‘80s saw the release of No. 1 albums Honeysuckle Rose, Somewhere Over The Rainbow, Always on My Mind, and The Promiseland, as well as Nelson joining Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, and Kris Kristofferson in the country supergroup The Highwaymen, touring and releasing three studio albums between 1985 and 1995. Nelson continues to release a new album almost every year and delight ticket buyers in live shows to this day.

    Could not see the stage

by Glitta on 5/20/24Breese Stevens Field - Madison

Unfortunately we could not see Willie on stage at our local soccer field as the sound guy had his big white tent obscuring our view. If I wanted to listen to Willie I would have just bought his record.

    I'm Glad I Attended

by Not a Country Fan on 5/20/24Breese Stevens Field - Madison

Although I am not a Country & Western fan, I did want to see Willie Nelson in concert (and in person). The couple of songs that I knew (like "You Were on my Mind"he seemed to sing differently than his recordings and I didn't think they were as good. Most of the other songs he played were totally foreign to me. So, I would not go to another Willie Nelson concert, yet I am glad that I went to this one. The venue was good, my seats were fine and the weather totally cooperated.

    He's a Legend

by Beth1226 on 5/20/24Breese Stevens Field - Madison

There's a reason why Willie is a legend! It's well-deserved. The venue, Breese Stevens, is a great place to see a concert.

    Definitely disappointed

by Rich on 5/20/24Breese Stevens Field - Madison

I am a big fan of Alison Kraus and when they changed opening act with no explanation I was super annoyed Also disappointed that Nelson concert had long break and only 50 minute set with no encode Also missed that they did not have enough bathrooms and had to stand in line 45 minutes

    Time to Retire!

by Otto on 5/20/24Breese Stevens Field - Madison

Sorry to say that Willie really needs to hang up his hat. I love Willie, but he should have paid us to attend the concert! Less than 60 minutes long. I love Willie Nelson‘s music, but the concert Was a complete waste of time to attend. Enjoy his wonderful albums, but don’t waste your time money or energy attending his concerts at this point.

Great concert minus speakers in the way

by Trace on 5/20/24Breese Stevens Field - Madison

Willie was spectacular. The only negative was that the speakers were blocking the view on the far left and right sides. People paid alot for close seats and saw speakers instead of the stage.

by DK on 5/20/24Pinewood Bowl Theater - Lincoln

What can you say about an icon such as Willie Nelson. The show was perfect. Willie did not disappoint. He's amazing @ 91 years young he's still the Red Headed stranger & an Outlaw and a pure treat to see live...

Good for a 91 year old, not quite up to legend standards.

by Erik on 5/20/24Breese Stevens Field - Madison

Glad I had the chance to see Willie. Beautiful evening for an outdoor show. Musically I was not impressed, his playing was out of sync with the band. It got better when Willie stopped playing as much. It was enjoyable to hear those songs from my younger days, glad I went, probably would not do it again.

    UNBELIEVABLE

by Rox on 5/20/24Breese Stevens Field - Madison

What a show! Multi generational family event! Willie did not disappoint. Solid hour of great songs. Great crowd, perfect venue! Ryan Larkin was impressive as opener. Loved every minute of it!

    Nelson & Friends

by JJ on 5/20/24Breese Stevens Field - Madison

The music was good, but the concert was shorter than expected. Also, the concert ended abruptly with no closing words. I think the cost was too high. I realize Willie Nelson is 91 already, so I understand somewhat.

Willie great. Sound terrible in general admission

by Eva on 5/20/24Breese Stevens Field - Madison

Willie was great. But you could only tell when the crowd noise ebbed enough. Much of the time, you could barely hear at all. This was a shame. There are ways to spread the sound properly in a large venue and not raise the overall decibel level. Whoever is responsible for that really needs to figure it out.

    Sound production was poor

by gigibadger82 on 5/20/24Breese Stevens Field - Madison

This is no reflection on Willie himself, but the sound production on the Madison, WI, concert was one of the worst I have ever been to. We were about midway back the small field and could not hear anything. Thankfully, these tickets were not expensive, but it really ruined what will probably be my last chance to see this legend in concert. Highly disappointed.

    Poorly planned event

by Megan on 5/20/24Breese Stevens Field - Madison

Willie Nelson is an icon. This review doesn’t take anything away from that. The event was poorly planned or poorly managed at the location. Poor parking options with another concert down the street. Limited bathroom access in the seated area. Hard to get in and out or even walk around. Regardless, seeing Willie is priceless.

    Sound was bad

by SJ on 5/20/24Breese Stevens Field - Madison

It was really hard to hear Willie’s voice, and the sound/volume was inconsistent to those of us toward the back of the stadium.

    Great Concert!

by Wine4501 on 5/20/24Breese Stevens Field - Madison

It took one hour before Willie got on, but once he was on, he was great! Crazy that a 90 year old man can still sing that great!

    A Treasure

by Wintermom on 5/20/24Breese Stevens Field - Madison

Breese Stevens Field is a fantastic outdoor venue. And it was perfect for another Willie Nelson & Family show. Ryan Larkins, who opened, was great and Willie absolutely did not disappoint. He did 21 songs, with little fanfare, mixing older and newer. For 91 years old, he sounded great and you could see the joy making music brings him.

    Willlie good!

by OS on 5/20/24Breese Stevens Field - Madison

Breese Stevens Field is an amazing venue. Plenty of restrooms, easy to navigate all amenities, multiple food and drink options, easy to find seats, helpful staff, and able to get out of stadium within 10 minutes of show ending. Online ticket process was easy to buy and transfer to the people we went with. Willie Nelson was amazing, played for an hour, Ryan Larkins as the opener was great too, definitely a rising star.

Great Opportunity to See a Country Music Icon

by toakley on 5/20/24Breese Stevens Field - Madison

My wife and I enjoyed the concert. While Willie is definitely not in his prime, he still put on a good, but short show. The most enjoyable part of the event was seeing how much love the fans showed for Willie, singing along with the songs and generally enjoying themselves. Willie's band was great and provided wonderful support for him. I especially enjoyed the harmonica player--he held the music together with bluesy riffs that really made the show. It was a lot of money for a pretty short (one hour) show, but since Willie is 91 years old, there won't be many more opportunities to hear him sing songs like "I Woke Up Not Dead Again Today"in the future. Definitely worth the money.
