Excellent show! One of my all time favorite venues as well!!
Words can never really explain the Grateful Dead or The Dead or Further.... One must simply be present to understand.
The Saturday night show at the Greek was exceptional. The band, accompanied on several songs by Jonathan Wilson and Neal Casal was at its best! Across The Universe was a special treat along with great sets of old family favorites. I only wish that I had the energy and time to have gone all 3 nights! If you haven't seen Furthur you are truly missing out.
This old school concert is the way all concerts should be. The band took the stage at 7pm had a half hour break and finished at 11pm on the dot. Gave us our moneys worth times two. I wish all bands would care so much about their crowd, and not only about themselves. This Grateful Dead extension concert had all the great songs and some new stuff too. In all my years seeing these musicians (First show: The Grateful Dead, The New Riders of the Purple Sage and Maria Muldar in Santa Barbara around 1974), In all my life, I have never seen them do the same show twice. They never do the same stuff even the next night of the tour. They are so accomplished, they actually know and can play, at any time, almost any song from their huge body of work. What a group of committed professionals. Great Job, Furthur!
Great band, great atmosphere. I was very impressed with the Greek Theatre (my first time there), beautiful place and even the event stacked parking area was well manned with easy access.
last of the year, last of the run, last of who knows (except a brief stint in mexico) until the 50 year anniversary. no guests, just the band pulling out the stops and playing the music with heart and soul. the group has gelled and morphed into something powerful and moving, capable of quiet, delicate lows and searing, earth-shaking highs. the crowd felt it, the band felt it, the coyotes in the tree-lined hills felt it. until we meet again.......
Building on their foundation of about 4 years of touring, the question is always if the band can exceed their already high expectations. The sound was clean enough to hear every string that Bobby was strumming. Phil's bass was a clean as ever. Each of the other band members had moments which showed why they were worthy to be in the best jamband. The bottom line is that Furthur brings the musical excitement not seen since the Grateful Dead. The last set of the last night exceeded those high expectations. Jack Straw was as good as any that I have seen with the Grateful Dead. Doing That Rag, Unbroken Chain were highlights as well. And throw in a Saint Stephen to the setlist and it became a memorable event.
Another fine performance by Furthur. I'll miss 'em...
The greatest time ever. They are some of the most talented musicians on the planet. The venue was awesome. You could feel the whole place buzzing.
