We haven't heard Garrison in awhile, but despite being 79, he continues to be amazing, along with his team. Loved the music, the sonnets and stories.
I decided to leave because most of the people around me did not wear masks. With the uptick of COVID I found it irresponsible of the venue or promoter not to require masks, COVID checks, or proof of vaccines.
wonderful music and entertainment. So good to see that Garrison has not really skipped a beat.
I guess we are use to the older and bigger shows he use to do. Chairs are very uncomfortable I was Thankful that there wasnât a larger person sitting in front of me.
We do enjoy Garrison Keillor , have seen him , as himself (twice)with Prairie Home Companion *twice" and this Prairie Home Christmas. Would entertain a different venue. The Civic Center was not as comfortable (seating and atmosphere). Security kept opening and closing doors , Other loud noised coming from behind dividers and other interruptions. Were no rules to turn off phones so peoples phones were on, ringing and taking pictures. There were three young men who kept leaving their seats..FRONT ROW and was noticeable. Just overall not the best venue for this type of show.
The performance was fabulous. Have loved Garrison Keillor for years. I had trouble working with Ticketmaster to get the tickets, as did a number of other people at the box office the night of the performance. Garrison was great, but Ticketmaster needs a lot of improvement in the process of buying tickets.
I've heard about Garrison Keillor before but never listened. My bride said she wanted to go so I got tickets. He was funny and real in a dry sort of way. I'd go to see him again. I don't know if he's on the radio anymore But I would tune in now
We enjoyed every minute of Garrison Keillorâs performance. His stories are so funny and almost seem real. Amazing that he can go on for 2 hours without notes or prompts. The pianist and the singer with also excellent. The 2 hours flew by and left us wanting more.
Thought It was a Christmas show as advertised. Only 1 known Christmas song all night. An intermission with sing a long Christmas songs was advertised. Instead he talked forever about funerals and his experiences. Brought a smile or two but definitely not comedy. Too long. Not enjoyable as we expected to see a variety type Christmas show.
We so enjoyed this performance. It was everything you could want in a Garrison Keillor show, gentle humor, childhood stories, a chance to catch up with the good people of Lake Wobegon, some dirty limericks, and a bit of community singing. It is always a joy to be in his presence. We still miss his weekly radio show. MPR/NPR just hasnât been the same without him and A Prairie Home Companion. The only thing we were hoping for near the holidays was some rendition of the Sons of Knute Christmas Dance and Dinner. Ending the show with Et Barn Er Fodt made our evening, though.
This show is not for people looking for another edition of "Prairie Home Companion" -- ie, no skits, voice actors, etc. However, it most definitely is for those looking for a laconic, relaxing, entertaining, thoughtful, witty, and surprising show by the man BEHIND "PHC," the one and only Garrison Keillor. Garrison sings (in a surprisingly strong voice, especially considering his age) unique holiday songs and shares what seem like meandering stories that somehow miraculously end up connecting in the end, about his life (and faith) in Minnesota, and in New York, and of course, in Lake Woebegone! Not quite what we were expecting, but a wonderful treat nonetheless.
I wasn't expecting quite as much singing, but I loved his sense of humor. Nice job overall. For the first time, I sat in row BBB (in the orchestra pit) I have sat in CCC before and it was good - AAA and BBB are too close for comfort in my opinion.
We were disappointed. The show was advertised as a Christmas experience, but that is not what it delivered beyond a few references. There was almost no engagement with audience singing Christmas music, and the storytelling, while entertaining at points, touched but briefly on the season with none of the depth or charm of what the author had done on Prairie Home Companion.
Always enjoy the downhome humor. The music (especially the pianist) was outstanding.
It was good to see Mr. Keillor back on stage! Where he belongs! 1 3/4 hours and no breaks! Liked the comment 79 years old you should get her as fast as you can. I have seen him many times, in the years past live, but I think this time was the best! He just keeps getting better.
Nice way to spend an evening locally. Nice venue, good food and service.
I do. I listened to him on the radio every Saturday since the 1970's. He did the entire show without reference to a script or notes of any kind. That's a storyteller.
Performance lasted approximately 3 hours plus the 20 minute intermission. A little draggy at times, but overall well worth the time and money. My wife and I are both glad we went.
This concert was fabulous. Garrison walked on stage at 7:30 on the dot and except for a 15 minute intermission, the festivities went on for almost 3 hours. Fred Newman, Sue Scott, and Tim Russell were their usual talented selves...making us laugh and sing along. Heather Masse was Garrison's musical guest and even when she sang off-key (on purpose), she was delightful. The Shoe Band (featuring Rich Dworsky) are such talented musicians! Loved it! (Even though parking at this venue (Center Stage Atlanta) was a little disconcerting.)
