Amazing performance of energy through the power of human language. Truth in laughter!
His performance was enjoyable - the show was just too short for the price of the ticket.
An wonderful evening of nostalgia, entertainment and fun! From old to new it was a lot of fun listening to Garrison weave stories and jokes together. Thank you Mr Keillor for a lifetime of entertainment!
I have listened to Garrison on the radio for years and with his retirement of the Prairie Home Companion, Saturday evening is just not the same. Took my Mom to the show and we had the most wonderful evening. Garrison is the master of story weaving and just keeps you in suspense up to the final word.
Went to see GK at Cary Hall in Lexington Massachusetts tonight. He had us in the palm of his hand....magical evening...why then do you have to take the Lord's name in vain and share a poem about cunnilingus with your wife. Totally inappropriate and offensive. I am not a prude and he said a lot of funny and touching things but four or five offensive and totally needless moments ruined it for me. If it is going to be R rated, please tell people so they don't bring their kids and so they can avoid it as well.
I've listened to his show on the radio for years and loved it. He did not disappoint. He was intelligent, entertaining and engaging. He connected with the audience as he walked around and through the aisles (we were outdoors) and I loved the intermission sing along. It was a fabulous show and Cedar Rapids was lucky to have him here! So sorry to hear he'll be retiring after his next season. His band and lead singer were amazingly talented people and his special effects person was unbelievable. It was apparent that these are people with talent who work hard. The show lasted for 2 1/2 - 3 hours and they didn't miss a beat. I'd recommend his show to anyone who is a Prairie Home Companion fan, or just Garrison Keillor fan, because all of it was wonderful. We were outdoors at the Amphitheater on a beautiful summer night and a good time was had by all. Thanks to all of them for coming here.
Garrison Keillor is a wonderful story teller. He led off with singing some familiar tunes and then segued into several charming and sometimes entertaining stories, a few of a very personal nature. Some folks walked out....and continued to walk out during the program. While my husband and I are adults...and were not personally offended... some seniors were and chose to leave. If you are attending because you think it will be like A Prairie Home Companion...it is NOT. It is just Garrison Keillor sitting on a stool telling stories as well as leading the audience in song. Many of the songs are those you and I have known and sung since childhood. Favorites that we learned in school and growing up. What I found inappropriate was his choice to lead the audience in songs that were Christian church hymn. Garrison, not everyone who attends your program is Christian. Having listened to NPR to A Prairie Home Companion for over 30 years....I was disappointed.
We heard Garrison Keillor on Valentine's Day and were disappointed. Very few stories, very little about Lake Wobegon, mostly short songs with a female vocalist who was a great singer, but not the act we paid to see. We tell our kids that there are two kinds of humor: intelligent humor and cheap humor. Keillor has been very good at intelligent humor in the past, but this show was full of the unintelligent kind, and not in good taste. Felt hollow.
Been listening to Garrison for many years, his show, his tapes, read his books, saw him in person. Very entertaining and well worth your effort to see him.
I have listened to Garrison on radio for 41 years...Seen him live over 35 years......When I first heard about him I had to set the alarm to hear him at 6am....Amazing variety and yet familiar themes...creates a sense of home town.....of course I worked in Twin Cities for 16 years....Don;t miss this live!
I have listened and loved Prarie Home Companion for more than 30 years - it is so amazing to see a live show, a treat of a lifetime. He is a true performer and makes you feel like you are sitting in his front palor while he unrollls this fabulous entertainment. This is a DO NOT MISS event! You won't regret it, worth every penny plus++++++
