From the sublime to the crass in two seconds flat

by PB on 4/29/24The Egyptian Theatre - Boise

I love Keillor's ability to tell a story. I don't think anyone does it better. For me the journey from "It is well with my soul"to picking up quarters with your naked butt cheeks and urinating on the wall was a bit too far and too fast. I laughed, cried and was appalled within the space of an hour.

    A wonderful evening

    by Steve Q on 4/4/24

For years I listened to the Prairie Home Companion on public radio. I was always provided with stellar entertainment. For the past two years I was at Town Hall NYC live. I'll tell you that it was an amazing experience šŸ˜€. I look forward to the next show at Town Hall in 2024

    Garrison keillor live show

    by Disappointed on 4/2/24

His one man show began with vulgar sexual references, interlaced with songs the audience joined in. Then followed one depressing anatomy explicit tale after another, until my husband and I left the theater. We did not come to hear a series of lengthy dirty jokes. Missed the fun and even inspiring stories he is known for . Sadly dissapointed.

back and at it, just like before: NICE!!

by suzQ! on 12/12/23Town Hall - New York

It was like I was sitting with friends in a living room enjoying a holiday evening. We had carols, sing -a -longs, stories, laughing, and the most fantastic band. What a joy. NOTE: I was exhausted from working a long day and was very happy I didn't fall asleep - you know - with that lulling Keillor voice. AUDIENCE NOTE: did so many of you REALLY need to be texting????? Note to GK: I do go to PA from NYC for the holidays - it was like you were in my life. <3

    Woe Begone, indeed.

by A Former Fan on 12/12/23Town Hall - New York

I came to the 50th anniversary performance at The Town Hall with expectations that this would be a likely final opportunity to celebrate ofA Prairie Home Companion, with appearances of some of its oldest and best remembered special guests and original cast members as well as revisits of time-honored sketches that would be both inventive and truly entertaining in witty, animated and well-conceived scripting. However, what we got was a moribund Garrison Keillor who just phoned in his performance, even in his signature pieces like the Lake Wobegone story. Instead of honoring 50 years as an American institution, Keillorā€™s myopic vision was to turn the entirety of the event over to a trio of singers (including the overlong and repeated use of an opera soprano) and orchestra who carried Keillor through an extended and very lackluster, tired and tiresome paen to Christmas in New York, as he slowly paced along occasionally lifting his arm to the other performers, without establishing a scintilla of rapport with the audience or even with his fellow performers. It confirmed sadly, what often happens when a narcissist is uncovered- a retreat into self-involved animus. This show was exploitative and I resent that Mr. Keillor did little to honor those that loved his show instead of using their allegiance and affection to recoup his legal bills. Some things are better left in memory. Lastly, The Town Hall needs to renovate its seating; I am not the first person to note this, but I will not be returning to The Town Hall until they fix this untenable problem.

    Always fun and entertaining

by LouisRico on 12/12/23Town Hall - New York

Iā€™ve seen Garrison thrice, and he and his co-performers havenā€™t missed a beat. The first time was in Minnesota in the 90s; the second and third times were in NYC this year and the last. This was the radio show ā€œmy parents forced me to listen to,ā€ but I was so glad they did. I listened to the Guy Noir album about 50 times (itā€™s only my phone now). As for the show? GK doesn't miss a BEAT. I mean, not one beat. Heā€™s the only one who seems to have the whole show almost completely memorized. And when he was searching for his script onstage, he still didnā€™t miss a single line. Everything is timed exquisitely. The funniest thing is that GK claims to be ā€œjust an author.ā€ Heā€™s got a wide selection of books, audiobooks, and show recordings. Heā€™s not only an author; heā€™s got the fantastic trademark voice that we all love and a knack for storytelling thatā€™s unparalleled anywhere else. Add that to his marvelous singing voice, and you have someone who can entertain you for hours or rock you to sleep. One of the more fun parts was the sound effects guy teaching us how he did a few of his sound effects. I had no idea he was inhaling on some of his SFX, and although half the time I cough when I try it myself, it was still a terrific tool, as Iā€™ve never seen that done before on his or any other show. If you can see this legend, GOAT, OG, THE Master storyteller, do it. You needn't pay a premium; anywhere you sit will still be entertaining.

    The Great Storyteller

by Bubbles on 12/12/23Town Hall - New York

Went to NYC from Mpls to see his show with a girlfriend. His story telling g is the best. And his vocal voice was also ā€œaboveā€ average. I would have liked more of ā€œHimā€ and less of the other show cast. The pianists were also amazing and the band:orchestra was outstanding.

    Cheerfulness at the Avalon

by Sandy on 4/13/23Avalon Theatre - Grand Junction

Garrison Keillor's 2-hour presentation was a masterful and thought-provoking journey into the life and times of a fantastic storyteller. The audience was treated to some a capella singing as well as Keillor's insights into life today in this crazy world. It was a wonderful two hours, despite the theater being arctic cold that left me feeling like a popsicle. I'd do it again in a heartbeat!

    Brilliance

by Kelly on 4/4/23Avalon Theatre - Grand Junction

This performance exceeded my most hopeful expectations. Garrison Keillor is still sharp and witty at age 80! His monologue gave me a sense of community and hope for a future where people can look at similarities rather than differences. He used his music, humor and storytelling to create a wonderful collective experience.

    Enjoyable Entertainment

by Sam on 4/3/23Avalon Theatre - Grand Junction

We really enjoyed Garrison Keillor! He is a storytelling delight! We enjoyed Prairie Home Companion for many years. Audience participation, involving singing some wonderful old hymns and other songs from days gone by, was so fun! At 80 years old, heā€™s still putting on a good show. So glad we went!

    The one and only!

by Just Jeudy on 4/3/23Avalon Theatre - Grand Junction

I am so happy I went to the show. There will never be another voice/speaker like Garrison Keeler. The Minnesota theme and the humor was so familiar to one who listened to him every Sunday afternoon until he went off the air.
